XP: Working overtime in California question
I can easily ask this question on Monday to my HR person but thought you ladies might know...
I recently moved to SF and started a new job, to my understanding in California you are to be paid OT if working more than 8 hours in a day and/or more than 40 hours a week.
So if our pay periods are Friday-Thursday and I work:
Friday- 10 hours
Saturday- 4 hours
Sunday- 0
Monday- 10 hours
Tuesday- 10 hours
Wednesday- 0
Thursday- 10 hours
So a total of 44 hours... would I get paid 4, 8, or 12 hours overtime??? I hope you can see where I am getting confused about this...
Please let me know if I need to clarify anything! Thanks!
Re: XP: Working overtime in California question
How is a week defined? You worked 44 hours in a 7 day period, but only 14 the first week (Friday & Saturday) and then 30 the second week (Sunday through Thursday). If a week is defined as Sunday through Saturday, you would get 8 hours of overtime.
The "week" is defined Friday-Thursday... so our time cards start on Friday and ends on Thursday (we get paid weekly).
I'm confused because if the requirement for OT pay is anything over 8 hours then I would have accumulated 8 hours of OT. In addition to the 8 hours, I'm also working more than 40 hours by 4 hours.... so 8+4=12. I just don't know if that's right or not.
This is exactly right.
