Re: TUT
I love the water too! My parents put me in swim lessons when I was a baby, and I love swimming!
Just praying DS loves it just as much, so far he seems to
Me too! My sister took the same classes as me, yet I caught her still plugging her nose as an adult. So I taught her how to go under without plugging her nose. Now she is a pro!
I suck at diving and wish I was better at that, but our pool isn't deep enough to try and perfect it
My friend doesn't know how to swim. I think she has a fear of the water on some level. She also did not grow up in a normal household, so I don't think she had anyone to help her learn or work through the fear if something bad happened.
I love swimming. H does not like to swim, which bums me out a little.
Pretty much this. I know basics of swimming and such but I'm not great at it.
Isn't swimming a horrid part of gym class for everyone?

Yes, but not super great at it. Enough to save my life. I have always wanted to take lessons as an adult, but never got around to it.

Yes! I swam competitively through high school, lifeguarded through college, and taught swim lessons. I think it's so unsafe when people (especially kids) don't know how to swim. You don't have to be able to win a race, but at least keep yourself afloat if you get in deep water.
Side note: DH knows how to swim just fine, but it kills him that it's the one sport I can kick his a$s at. I even tried to teach him how to dive one summer (he jumps in feet first, with his nose plugged). It was majorly unsuccessful, resulted in a fight, and we don't really talk about it.

This, kind of. I can swim, but I don't know that I could keep myself from drowning if I fell into water unexpectedly, because I tend to panic in open water. When we were in Hawaii in March, we went on a kayak/snorkel tour and when I got into the water I panicked and flopped around trying to get back on the kayak. So I sat on my kayak which seemed to be floating away while everyone saw really awesome sea turtles lol.
I will say I love swimming, I grew up with a pool so I was in it everyday all summer long. My H on the other hand has no idea how to swim and is afraid of the water. He wouldn't even stand in the ocean on our honeymoon. He claims he almost drowned twice. So I blame his parents for not making him learn.
Yeah I can swim. But I can't dive. Everyone tried teaching me but I could never do it. It's just not a natural to dive headfirst into anything...
This! I took lessons as a kid and I can still swim but it's definitely not pretty.
Same here. He claims he can't swim well because he has such a low body fat % that he sinks instead of floats. But I'm pretty sure that's BS because Olympic swimmers certainly have pretty low body fat % and still manage to swim really well...
As a side note: I really wanted to swim competitively in junior high & high school, but my body image issues prevented me from ever joining the team.
I still regret that.
That made me giggle!
Yes, I grew up on the lakes and when I was in elementary school I was on the swim team for one summer. I'm not a huge fan of swimming or pools though. I like being on the water & water skiing and tubing but I have no desire to swim laps or anything like that.
I do, but I didn't learn until I was in 4th or 5th grade I think. My mom doesn't know how to swim, because she has a fear of the water, it's a miracle she did a boat tour of the Soo Locks when I was younger, so I'm not surprised of those that don't know how to swim.
My kids will definately learn how to swim.
