What do y'all think of this
quote?
I've heard it before, and saw it on FB today and I just....don't know if I quite understand it.
"The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother."
I mean, I think having two parents that love each other is obviously key to having a happy healthy home. But, I don't think this is the best thing a father can do for his children, in the grand scheme of things.
I know several single fathers, who are truly amazing and adore their children. Did they fail because they didn't love their children's mother??
I don't know, maybe I'm analyzing but I've never understood this quote.
Opinions??
Re: What do y'all think of this
That's possible, I didn't think about it that way.
Lurker chiming in here. Look at it like this:
If the parents were not together and the mom was the custodial mom, it would be a good idea for the father to have enough love for the mom for her position. He may not love her in a husband wife kind of way, but show love as a hey we are co parenting kind of way. The father could show love by talking positively about the mom around the kid, to the mom in front of the kid, include the mom in different decisions, etc.
I'm not sure, but I think you might be overthinking it.
To me, it means parents who show unconditional love to one another give their children a sense of security and trust that is important to their development.
Not that divorced couples cannot do the same thing in different ways....but I think that is what the quote means.
