Re: Say Anything Wednesday
My "perfect oatmeal" from Starbucks was the very antithesis of it's name this morning. It was lumpy, overly watery and was so hot after 10 minutes it burned my tongue. I can only imagine how hot it was when they handed the bag to me. What a waste of $2. I did not get a drink to keep from drinking 200 empty calories but now I know I should have just gotten a no-whip frap and scrapped the oatmeal.
We are doing date night tonight since tomorrow night is HP and Friday we are leaving to visit family. No idea where we will go, I need to think on it.
I had a very vivid dream last night where I met this new guy while my husband was traveling and he tried talking me into leaving DH for him. In the dream I had almost decided to leave DH when I changed my mind and realized I would never be as happy as I am with him with someone else. I am glad even my subconcious agrees I made the right choice with DH.
I made the slight mistake of buying The Book Thief and Then Came You because I will have a hard time not reading Then Came You first or I will just put my life on hold to finish both, which is never good.
Our blender was burning this morning when I was making my GM and it wasn't even going for that long; at first I thought it was the kale and I didn't look forward to drinking that smell.
burning? Oh my! Might be time for a new blender?
I stuff all my GM stuff into my magic bullet and it has been working marvelously. It's also convenient not to make a mess because you drink it right out of the blender cup.
I actually made it in to work early this morning, but I have nothing to show for the half hour I've been here already, except that I've eaten my breakfast.
I've been super tired lately - I'm getting plenty of sleep, but I'm still exhausted in the mornings when it's time to get up. It's annoying.
I've been so bad about reading The Book Thief, so I'm glad the meeting got moved from this weekend. I started it a few weeks ago, and haven't had a chance to pick it up again!
I didn't know there was such a thing... maybe a friend with a good camera and some editing skills? Sorry I'm not more help!

My wedding photographer does portrait sessions starting at $175 with a full disc of the photos. http://cindyportillophotography.com/ Tell her Leslie sent you.
ETA: I just realized I completely skipped over the word "pet." She would photograph your pet as well, but she is not a "pet photographer" - if that makes sense.
The only thing I would like to do with our magic bullet is blow it up or beat it with a hammer. I have absolutely NO luck it and DH only has minimal luck with it. It's just one of those things that you either love it or hate it.
I think I will be spending the day catching up on Housewives NY and NJ. And doing laundry.
Also, I need to spend today and tomorrow getting ready to stay up until at least 4 AM. I am meeting some of my former students to go see HP over in Colleyville and will have to drive home afterward. Sadly, this will be the last time I do this because I just can't do it any more. I'm getting old.
I'm sick too... still and unfortunately I'm back to work today. What is wrong with you 2? I hope y'all feel better soon. I got sick last Thursday with what I thought was just a cold. I felt a little better over the weekend then Monday my ear stopped up so bad I couldn't hear. So the doc finally got me antibiotics to knock out what I assume is a sinus infection. I hope it clears up fast.

Sarah - Oh no, I'm sorry.
I have a magic bullet and I really like it.
I am very tired today, too.
I sent you a PM!

Ditto.
What do you guys think about this:
My husband's company where he has been working since the begining of the year seems to regularly do social events where no spouses are allowed. This is not just happy hour after work or lunch or some team building exercise. They go to upscale restaurants and trips and stuff.
I have no problem trusting my husband at all, but I do have a problem with the idea where they ban spouses on trips which are not business related at all and specifically for social purposes in casino/hotel environments.
Every company that I have worked for during my career had its fair share of inter-office extra-marital activities, and when I see a company specifically ban spouses at these types of events, it makes me feel like they are just promoting this kind of thing. I just don't get it; for example, if they are already getting paying for a hotel room, what's it to them if the spouse goes or not? I think it should be left at the discretion of the employee and their family and let them pay for their spouse if the company doesn't want to cover the cost.
It's just seems like a weird policy to me.

All the girls in my micro class kind of get on my nerves.
They're so young. And, annoying. Ugh. I guess I better get used to this.
I've just been irritable the last several days. I wish it would pass.
Could it be that although these events are not labeled as team building exercises, they are meant for the employees to interact and form a bond as co-workers? It could be possible that the employer feels that a spouse's attendance could interfere with that goal. Also, some spouse's are clingy and may make it difficult for the employee to participate in the group activities. Other employees may not have a spouse and may be completely left out, when all the other couples 'pair' up. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the company, I'm just providing other possible reasons for this rule.
My soy milk was spoiled today when I poured it into the blender--there is NO mistaking when soy milk goes bad, let me tell ya. So I had to make mine with yogurt and pineapple juice. It was drinkable though.
I am still waiting for my boss to tell me I can have my days off for Vegas--meanwhile the packages are selling out left and right. Apparently the travel sites only have a limited number of cheap packages. I really hope I find out today.
Hmmm, Kathy, maybe it's strictly a financial thing and that is why they say no spouses?
Sorry about the job Sarah but congrats on the other one!

This seems strange to me too. I mean if it was a sporadic "let's go to the woods and catch each other" team building thing, whatever. But actual non-business related trips - yeah, that's weird. Does anyone else seem to have an issue with it at your DH's work?
Oh I forgot my original SA: I watched the Jaycee Dugard interview with Diane Sawyer and cried through the whole thing. That woman is AMAZING. With all she went through, and only having a 5th grade education, she is bright and funny and articulate. I wanted to hug her the whole time. I cannot imagine how she got through 18 years of that hell and came out on the other side so sweet and forgiving. I am definitely buying her book.

If it was a cost issue, they could enforce that the spouse has to be paid for seperately. The have one big trip every year where they allow spouses, and they have to pay for themselves.
But as far as all the other trips and actitives go, they are purely social with no planned "get to know your coworker" activies. It's more like of just let's go to this casino , gamble and drink, and then stay the night and come back the next day or go have a fancy meal at Al Biernat's or something.
And as far as the single people feeling left out if spouses come, I think that's a little silly. They are all grown ups, and the married people or those with s/o shouldn't have to suffer bc some of the others are single.
I am in annoyed mood today too. I don't see any good coming out of this policy.

Hey everyone! I have been so MIA lately. Really busy at work right now and we are losing yet another secretary in a week. I am now 2nd in seniority out of seven secretaries and that happened in three years. Hopefully after August 31st I will be here a lot more!
Sarah, I'm sorry you didn't get the job that you really wanted. I'm glad you found something though!!
Kathy, that would probably upset me if my husband's job did those kinds of things.
I hope everyone feeling under the weather starts to feel better soon!
Sarah - Sorry you didn't get the offer from the one you really like. Congrats on the other offer though!

I watched this, too. Wow, what a story. I will say, through the whole show, I felt like she was eerily normal. I mean, more power to her, but I just don't think I could be that normal/peaceful if I went through all of that.
I am sure it helps that so much time has passed since her rescue and tons of therapy.
