2-yr old vaginal odor/yeast/etc - please help

my 2-yr old has had an irritated vagina & butt for 10-months+

1st: dr's visit = yeast cream. didn't work

2nd: dr's visit = pinworm pills (1 then 1 a wk later) + the same cream prescribed again. didn't help

3rd: call to dr = stronger yeast cream called in. didn't help

thought being out of a diaper would help. 3+ wks fully potty trained & still red, irritated & now an odor (from her front)

4th: dr's visit today = pinworm treatment again + hydrocortisone cream. insisted to dr it is something different since pinworm meds & yeast creams haven't worked in past. asked about bacterial infection, he doesn't think so, but prescribed med (think it's an antibiotic). i asked about seeing a specialist, he doesn't think it warrants 1

** we've have seen 3 dif't dr's in same practice for all of this.

please help!

  • I would start to give her acidophil (sp) supplement. not to much tmi here but as a person who has suffered from this alot bc of issues with antibiotics i always have the pills in the house. also yogurt with it in everyday. hope she feels better aspa, poor baby!

  • first, i try to stick to one doctor when dealing with illness issues, since they've seen it and can see how it progresses. and i'll wait for the appointment with them so it's consistent.

can you call and speak to one of the other doctors and explain your frustration with trying the same treatment and no effect? maybe one of them will refer to a specialist or have another idea.

today was the same dr that gave her the pinworm pills in the past & who prescribed the same cream as was already prescribed by the 1st dr. i feel like staying w/ the same dr is yielding the same diagnosis over & over again.

i'm just out of ideas of wh at to do for her :(

where can i get acidophilis for kids?

i've also tried to push yogurt on her a lot since this started but that was right around when she started to not be in the modd for yogurt :(

also iffy about giving her the antibiotic they prescribed in case it's bacterial, because dr doesn't think it's bacterial (think he prescribed it cuz i was insisting we needed something different) & because i'm afraid it will make yeast worse (if it's yeast)

  • try the advice above my post - the yogurt and acidopholus may be it. we've had to do that during using antibiotics.
  • Freeze the yogurt - like GoGurt and make it a treat, like an ice pop.

I'm sorry your dealing with this. Poor baby.

  • I had to give it to Brayden when he was a baby and we got it at the regualr pharmacy. they told me to open the capsules and put it in his bottle or cup at the time. ask the pharmacist about dosage!

  • why does your dr keep thinking pin worms? You should be able to see them.

have they actually tested her for anything? maybe you can bring her to your OB and have them run a culture. i'm sure they can do it without going WAY up there for like a pap. But no way on earth would i continue treating her for yeast and pinworms if they already tried it and it didn't work, and they never even tested to begin with.
