Summer Heat

With most of the country in heat advisories, I'm curious as to what the temps/heat index are in your area.

It's actually ironic that in Central Florida, we've got some of the coolest temps in the country! It's 11am and we're at 87...heat index of 96. Not unusual for us this time of year...

Re: Summer Heat

  • Also 11 a.m. here and we're at 95 heat index 108 (according to weather.com).

I think one of the biggest problems here is that central air or air conditioning of any kind is not a given. Thankfully last year we got a movable standing air conditioner that I have going in the living room. Otherwise we would only have the one in our window in our bedroom. Actually at the school where I work they were scrambling earlier this week to move some of the summer programs into the few air conditioned rooms of the school.

  • It is 97 right now. It is supposed to "feel like" 107. Last summer we had a bunch of over 100 days and I was pregnant and nauseous -- so I'll take this instead!

  • Im happy to say that im enjoying the 70s and 80s in California. Its nice to not sit it 108 plus heat index everyday.

  • My thermometer says 99.7 in the backyard. Weather.com says it feels like 108.

It's supposed to go to 103.

  • 94 - with a heat index of 106.

    UGH!

Personally I LOVE the heat.... This is a little extreme - b/c you pretty much can't be outside, but take it over a cold and rainy day in the summer any time!

Tomorrow when I have to treck to NYC and DH has to spend the day in a suit will most likely be an entirely different story!

  • Oh yeah..the a/c thing is not a given. We have a window unit in our room and one in the living room-- so those are the places we hang. My dad drove around in the car with the a/c on yesterday...and summer school has been canceled various places because of the heat.

I know many places up North don't have AC...how crazy that summer school was cancelled!

I can't imagine being pregnant in this kind of heat either. My sister is 5 months pregnant so I know she's probably struggling. I also keep thinking about my 90 year old grandmother in Philadelphia with a window AC unit in her home.

  • Weather.com says 97 and feels like 103. Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. I prefer this type of weather. This is probably why I tolerate the heat in FL so well when we go down there.

Yes  I prefer Florida summers over PA winters hands down!

  • It is unusually cold here this summer. Send some of your heat our way. I can't find a temp converter that will work on my phone, but it's been 20 celcius or less here and usually it's in the high 20's to low 30's in July. Our wedding it was about 35 celcius. It super sucks! We are actually heading home early from our camping trip because it's too cold to go boating or sit on the beach or do anything that we usually come out here for. ?

  • It's 94 (heat index 103).  It's a pretty normal temp for this time of year.  I haven't been outside yet today but need to get moving and head to the gym.  Now that the AC is fixed it's much better.  It was 93 in my house yesterday!  Anyway, I don't mind the heat too much.  I'm usually always cold so I think I tolerate it fairly well.  The constant AC in stores and restaurants is sometime way too cold for me.  I don't like being sweaty though, or having sweat pour off my face while cutting the grass.

  • It is 93* right now-feels like 102*. NICE.

At least the AC is working now!

AC is pretty common here because we get SO humid in the summers. Most people at least have window units. We're lucky enough to have central air though. And a new one in a few weeks (Thanks, insurance!).

  • We have two window unit a/cs bedroom and living room so those have been our two hang out places as well. I am just glad I don't have to go out in it!

This. I'm jealous of you though because I am definitely not loving the heat!

  • We've been upper 90s/low 100s for the past 2 weeks (band camp, of course) with heat index being up around 110 consistently.  Really, when it's 6:30 at night, and still 102 degrees outside, that's just not right.

Oh, did I mention I was going to go for a barefoot walk on the beach at sunset?
