Re: Thursday Randoms

  • Went car shopping with my mom last night.  I'm really thankful that I won't have to car shop for a looooong time (knock on wood.)
  • The cottage I found on homeaway yesterday is available.  I'm booking it today and very excited.  I plan on kayaking all day everyday and chilling my the bon fire all night every night.  Wink
  • Even after my reiterating which towel to use this morning (before I left for my run), DH *still* used mine. The one I used yesterday, and the one I was planning to re-use after my stinky 5 miles today. Does he know where that's been?! And since I've changed out of my wet running clothes into my PJs again, sans bra/skivvies, I can't just run down to the front desk for another. I hate using someone else's towel. Oh yeah, that's right, since he used mine, I get to use the one he used after his post-swim shower yesterday.

    Ick!

  • Good morning!

Glad you found a cottage, Molly!  Sounds fun.

No shame.  I need my OWN towel each time I shower too.  I get a little skeeved out when I have to use DH's used damp towel.  Eww.  I'd probably settle for using a smaller hand towel to dry off instead.  Yeah, I'm a weirdo.

    I'm with you both!

  • Morning All.

It been oddly crazy this week at both work places. Meetings and people want to use the space down town and MI Blood has been doing a HUGE promo give away the past 2 days and ends today. I'm going in early there today so I can give and get in on the promotion.

Tomorrow I'm off and SS should be back tonight from his visit with his Mom and her side of the family.

  • Greetings from Kampala! Leaving in a couple of hours to start the 24 hour journey home. Can't wait to snuggle with my husband, my Italian Greyhounds, and sleep in my own bed.
  • I have that Arby's song stuck in my head.

  • I am going to have hummus for lunch.  I'm looking forward to it.

  • Congrats on finding a rental D&M!

    Safe travels Wendy!

I am Tired today.  Yes, that's Tired with a capital 'T'.  For whatever reason I couldn't sleep - I woke up at 2 am and was awake for 2 hours before falling into half sleep for the rest of the nght.

    *yawn*

  • Thank you everyone! I'm leaving for the airport now.

    That is a bummer!

Someone let their dog out at 5:00 am and it wouldn't stop barking!  I was getting soooooo angry.

  • I'm kinda peeved at my mom right now and need to vent.  Hope you guys don't mind.

Tomorrow, my parents, my Aunt and Uncle (from PA) and my Grandparents (also from PA) are coming to visit. I am so excited that they are coming and can see James, given that they normally are so far away.

Every time I talk to my mom she reminds me to "make sure James is in something cute" when they arrive.  And make sure I am presentable.  Um... yeah they will be lucky if I am out of my pjs and James' doesn't have spit up on him.  Now I am  all nervous about my house being a wreck.  I know my Aunt and Grandma can be very judgey but normally I let it roll off my back.  Except now... I keep trying to figure out how to get all the chores down, nap and love on James.

    That's really rude.

That seems like a very strange thing for your mom to say to you.  But maybe she knows how your aunt and grandma are, and she's just trying to pre-empt their judginess if possible.

Can you spend 15 minutes doing basic pick-up around the house before they come -- put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, clothes in the closet, kick miscellaneous things under the beds -- and just not worry about more extensive cleaning?  And then "apologize" to them when they get there that your house is a little messy, and remind them that you did just have a baby afterall.  Hopefully that will remind them of the circumstances (although, I wouldn't think that they'd have to be reminded!).

Enjoy the visit with your family!

  • You JUST HAD a baby and they want everything to be perfect. YOU dont have to do that. It's YOUR house and YOUR baby.

  • Mira, I'm sorry you're feeling that pressure, and that they are that way.  I'd meet them at the door with the baby, a vacuum, and a sponge.  Hand them all three things and tell them, "it's so nice to see you guys.  I'm going to take a shower, and then a nap."

    Yes

I think you should say "I was so surprised yesterday when mom called and told me that you offered to help clean the house so I could take a break. We were going to do that last night, but I know how much you wanted to help" and then walk out of the room leaving your mom on the spot.

  • Remember how we talked about waking up from a dream and feeling mad at the person in your dream (like your husband). I think Amelia is having a hard time separating dreams from reality. I don't think she is having bad dreams, I just think she is waking up in the middle of a dream and having a hard time when what she was dreaming about isn't there.  There has been three mornings that she has woken up and demanding something (but i can't figure out what she is asking for). Yesterday at 5:00 am she came into our room demanding cookies. Smile She kept saying "I want a cookie, I want a cookie, I want a cookie."  She went back to bed until 5:50 and then proceed to wake up Allison or quite possibly Allison woke up Mia in this case. Either way, this was TH and I at them...Angry

  • Ugh, the early nonsensical wake up call.  Growl.

So, has anyone else noticed small birds being extra-carnivorous this year?  I've seen so many go after bugs in the air, that I'm wondering about it.  Does heat cause them to need more protein?  Is there less seed for them to eat?  Gvsu, put that on your student researchers list, okay? ;)

Related, I saw a hummingbird hovering over our front porch a few days ago.  First, *squeal* a hummingbird!  And second, our feeder doesn't have a leak, it has someone eating from it, yay!  And third, it was chasing down a small bug.

  • We're starting to pick carrots from the garden this week.  It makes me so happy to tug on the stalks and pull up a beautiful carrot.

  • Molly, yay on finding a vacation rental!  I hope you have a great time.

Wendy, I'm sure you're airborne by now, but safe travels and can't wait to hear about your trip!

I'll have to read back through to see what I've missed...

Update on my textbook situation:  Another one arrived today in beautiful condition as promised.  The posting said writing on one page, but a quick flip through didn't even reveal that.  My faith in humanity is somewhat restored.  Also, the evil lying seller marked my book shipped finally, but it still isn't yet available for feedback.

  • Oh, about the towels.  It appears I'm the weird one--no qualms about sharing towels with the H.  Strangers yes, but no ick factor with L.
  • I don't mind towel crossover either if it's post-shower towel.

GRKaters, was the towel used a post run, and not post shower towel?  Because sweat vs. water makes a difference.

Oh yes, like a gym towel used to wipe up sweat rather than dry off after a shower is totally different.

I'm disgusted with my own sweat and everyone else's.  **shudder**
