Walking around barefoot

Re: Walking around barefoot

  • I don't think it's a Southern thing at all, actually. If you live in a snowy place, you CAN'T wear your outdoor shoes inside. I don't know anyone in Minnesota who did. That's just nasty. In Florida, though, a lot of people did/do. My parents wear their shoes inside, and growing up, I was never once asked to take my shoes off to go inside. In Minnesota, people hung up little signs and everything!

I will wear socks if my feet are cold, but ordinarily I'm barefoot. And we don't have carpet. (ick)

  • I don't like shoes being worn in the house so we are barefoot almost always.  However, if we have people over, I'm not all weird about it, unless going upstairs where there is carpet down.  I have a zero shoes on the carpet rule.

  • DH and I both hate wearing shoes in the house we both feel more comfortable going barefoot. We wear shoes so little inside our dog knows that if we are putting shoes on we are leaving and he goes straight to his bed; it's kinda cute and sad at the same time.

  • I have no idea how you are all managing to keep your feet warm even in summer - I assume it's much warmer where you all live - is that right? If I am without anything on my feet even for a half hour, they freeze. Maybe I have poor circulation??

I go barefoot all the time, I love it. I hate gross feet but I love being barefoot more.

This, sortof. We have marble, hardwood and carpet in the house, on the marble and hardwood I go barefoot (or when it's cold I wear socks), but the carpet on the stairs and in the guest bed/crafts room is coco mat textured whatever you call it carpet and that actually really hurts my feet, so I usually wear birkenstocks indoors when I walk up to those floors and kick them off whenever I'm in the living room/kitchen.

No designated house shoes though. I just wash my feet when they're dirty. If we have kids I might change that up, but for now this works for me.

I only air condition down to about 80*F so bare feet feels just fine here.

I'm always barefoot. I hate wearing socks.

It took me awhile to get used to wearing closed shoes when we moved from Asia to France. We don't wear shoes in our house, but I don't feel comfortable asking our guests to take them off, so I let it slide and mop after they leave.

Azure, I'm assuming from your siggy that you're Canadian (DH wholeheartedly embraced the Ceasar culture when we were there!). I learned quickly to plan on taking my shoes off wherever we went in Ottawa. It made planning party outfits interesting.

Haha! I've been having plenty of Ceasars this summer. I almost want to bring back a jug of Clamato in my luggage!

I hate it when people expect shoes off at a party.

Yeah, I could never wear my skinny jeans because I HATE how they look without tall boots on.

Shame that Clamato is so heavy and would ruin anything it spilled on, because that would be a great thing to bring back!

Ahhh - yes, much warmer. We'd have to put the heater on to get 80F. It's not been that hot at any point during the summer so far. Still hoping though!

  • I wear house slippers. My feet get too rough if I go barefoot.

Summer here is 80s and 90s. My feet get way too hot in socks or closed shoes. I'm jealous that you get cold in summer!

I'm barefoot here all year round. I like the cool floor on my feet in spring and summer, and in winter would wear socks but for slipperly laminate flooring and safety while carryin babies...

  • It was 100 degrees here today, so keeping our feet warm is not an issue!

See, you're further north than me - assume your house is toasty though. Ours is an old place so it's not great at keeping whatever warmth you do have.

Mystery solved though - was wondering how everyone could go barefoot so often! V jealous!
