Seriously, wtf is going on in London?
Re: Seriously, wtf is going on in London?
This. How sad for the family of the man killed, regardless of the circumstances and the he said/they said, they are grieving and these riots are in NO WAY related to something as lofty as social justice. It's just madness and people with no respect for human life or pride in their community.
My Blog
DH and I were talking about this last night. None of this has anything to do with the man who was shot anymore, nor does it have to do with motivation towards social change. It's all about stealing and destroying now. It's really effed up.
The pics from Croydon on BBC World News last night had my chin on the floor.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
This is completely it. These are a bunch of young kids (some as young as 8) who have seen an opportunity to wreak havoc and loot and they are jumping on it. It is so bad. I was in State College, PA one summer, in 1998, and there were riots. There was no reason, just a bunch of drunk college students who thought it would be funny. There was $150,000 worth of damages and multiple arrests. We stood on our friends balcony and watched, in shock, as kids did this for fun. It was disgusting.

This is what I've been thinking. And this is why violent protest is so ridiculous - you cannot make your point of protest heard over violence. Non-violent protest is the only way to be heard. There can be no connection to the man's death, really, just people who have a lust for violent behaviour and think this is the time they can get away with it.
