ack...stupid nest messed up my post. I meant to say...Do people use italics for anything specific that I can't remember? Could we just use italics for sarcasm?

Italics are supposed to be used to add emphasis or for the tile for books.

    I'm a word nerd-English teacher.

I might be a little late to book club tomorrow because I have to go make sure to get my free stuff from Staples and Office Depot, but I will be there.

  • I just got a $10 Amazon gift card for completing a 10 minute survey from Linked In.   Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about this.

Seeing as how I'm stuck in my office anywho, they should keep these coming. :)

Also, during lunch I managed to procure all the makings for lemon cake pops.  I've only ever done red velvet... so I'm nervous.

If you need me to go over and test out the lemon cake pops, I would be more than happy to do so.  Wink

I second this. I would be happy to give you my unbiased opinion! :)

Don't fret! I have never made a bad cake ball before and I have made a myriad of flavors. As long as you keep the cake/icing ratio good the cakeball will be awesome!

Let's just cut the formalities and we'll be over in 30 mins or so.

  • My company just sent out a $10 off $50 purchase coupon for Office Depot.  Anyone interested?  You can PM me your email address and I will forward.

I really wish I didn't suck at making cake balls, but I do!

  • I am considering buying the cliff notes of the book and crashing book club.  With Cadence in tow.

Ok, not really... but I may swing by to bring Renee some supplies! I am ridiculously excited to actually meet some of you... even for a minute.

  • LOL I'll be happy to share.   I certainly don't need to be eating them myself.

I'm actually doing this as a test to see if I can make "cake pops" for my cousin's shower. Hers will be red velvet, but I thought since its my test I'd make whatever flavor I want. :)

I'm just gonna make a few pops to see if I can do it..  the rest will be regular cake balls.

I would love to come to the book club... I just obviously work most Saturdays. :)

I used to be involved with on in the last city I covered, and it was so fun. I just read "The Help" and was bummed I missed the chance to jump on board the discussion of that book. It was incredible!

Even though you didn't ask me, here is my assvice :P --

Stick the sticks in while they are frozen, prior to dipping but before taking them out of the freezer - like maybe an hour before you want to dip. I have tried sticking the sticks in at all points and this seems to be the magic time to do it and have the best results.

Something about cake pops also makes them crack while cake balls do not. It is the temperature of the freezing cake/hot chocolate and the gravity combined, so if you are going for perfection just be aware this will likely happen. The cracks are usually very small and not noticeable at all if you dip in nuts/sprinkles/sanding sugar. Candy melts and almond bark tend to crack less than straight chocolate.

Floral foam blocks from hobby lobby are amazing for drying pops standing up and you can get them for very cheap. For my cousin's grad party I wrapped the blocks in wrapping paper and then used them during the party to hold the cake pops. They were a big hit.

You will be so in love with them when they are done. Cake pops are one of my favorite things I make, they are just so much better than the cake balls for some reason! :)

    You should definitely do this.

    Thanks! :)

I have been reading and while I will definitely be freezing them prior to dipping... several people recommended dipping the stick in melted chocolate before putting it in the cake ball.... because it will hold better.

I got white and dark chocolate bark.. I have tried candy melts but I didn't have the best luck with them for some reason.

    Have you tried that?

I have but didn't notice a ton of difference. I haven't had a lot of trouble with them slipping off in the past though. I think the freezing really makes that less of an issue so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I also know what you mean about candy melts. They finish smoothly for me but I have more trouble with them seizing up than I do normal chocolate, which is weird. I have found (the hard way) even the smallest amount of water in a gel food coloring or other add-in will kill candy melts. Some results in a google search will tell you otherwise but they are lying! Haha! Enjoy your lemon cake pops!

I am off to do 30 DS and (maybe?) a run, so I will see a bunch of you girls tomorrow! Everyone else have a good weekend!

Just sent a PM your way.

  • I had an interview for a second part-time job this afternoon, so I'm just now catching up!

Re: sarcasm font. You could always do a Twitter-inspired #sarcasm or an html-inspired <sarcasm>Insert snarkiness here</sarcasm>

Re: candy melts. I once made the green/white chocolate coconut Easter nests because they only sell the regular chocolate ones now. I used regular liquid food coloring without thinking, and they completely seized up. I made them and gave them away anyways.

And now I'm going to watch the SYTYCD performance episode from this week (I already know who won, and I have to say, it was very much deserved).

Yes yes YES! I knew who won before I watched the results show, and was still a weepy mess. She's had my vote since her original audition. The results show, with all the best numbers of the season, was KILLER!
