Talking....

I haven't been on much lately and those of you who are my fb friends know why. My mom was in a very bad car accident on august 4 and she lost the bottom portion of her right leg. These past few days have been exhausting. She is doing very well and is currently in rehab until her next surgery. She is healing like a champ and she has a great sense of humor. The coming months are going to be incredibly difficult. I am asking that you all keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I have a 9 year old brother and we are trying to keep a normal routine but he knows things will be very different for a while.  I am currenly applying for FMLA. I can't afford to take any unpaid time right now but my company offers a paid time off donation program but I have to be approved for FMLA first. I am hoping and praying that I get approved because my mom needs me and I need to be there. Thanks in advance ladies!

  • Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry to hear that. That's terrible - traumatizing, painful, and stressful all at once.  I'm so glad she's doing okay for right now, but I'll keep her (and your entire family) in my good thoughts. Do you know when the next surgery will be?

We're not sure. She has an appointment on Wed with the wound clinic and they may discuss it a little more then. She has a wound vac so she is generating her own tissue which is what they wanted her to do before they do a skin graft. It is looking good so they may want to wait a little while longer to see how much more she can generate. It is pretty incredible.

  • Wow!  I just wanted to let you know that I am so sorry to hear about the accident and all that your mom and family must be going through.  I'm glad to hear that she is keeping a positive attitude!  That can only help her healing process along.  I truly believe that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.  This is such an amazing opportunity for growth for everyone involved.  I am praying for you all!  Stay strong and positive!

  • Oh my gosh. hang in there! I'm so sorry to hear about this. Stay strong!
  • Oh gosh Danielle, I'm so sorry!  But I'm glad to hear she survived and it sounds like she's a strong woman to get through this.  My support and prayers go out to you and your family.

The skin graft sounds very interesting! I ran by a man yesterday during the half marathon who didn't have the bottom portion of his right leg, but he was running the race.  I was so inspired by him I started tearing up.  Like Brooke said, what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger/more determined.  *Hugs!*

  • I am so sorry.  What an awful thing for you and your family to go through.  But like others have said, it's great that she's keeping such a positive attitude, and even better that she's healing so well!  That's awesome!  I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.  Keep taking care of her and if you ever need anything from us, you know we're all here!

  • Wow, how horrible for your mom.  Luckily she and your little brother have you to be there for them.  I wouldn't think FMLA could deny you for that, but then it is a government program...
