New to the area--looking for stuff to do

Hi Ladies! I just moved to Pinellas Park August 5th and was looking for some things to do after school and weekends.  I'm teaching with Pinellas County School District in St. Petersburg, and I'm really excited to have my own classroom.  TIA for the suggestions.

  • There's TONS to do! What kinds of things do you enjoy? In Pinellas Park, you're close to Downtown St. Pete, the beaches... I'm north of you in Clearwater-Dunedin area.

  • I figure skate and run.  I love food--Crabby Bill's and the Dugout especially.  Currently, I'm looking for stuff that is free or extremely cheap for a few more weeks (until paydays start coming...) I'm looking for good shopping too.

  • Thanks! Hopefully, next August my FI will be here too. I hope to have more time to explore once the school year gets started.

  • Welcome!  I moved to St. Pete 7 years ago to teach for Pinellas County schools.  I have since moved to Tampa and teach for Hillsborough now.

If you like figure skating, there is actually an ice rink not far from Pinellas Park.  It's in the ICOT center of Clearwater, I can't recall the name but I've been skating there before.

Also, if you like cheap, check out some of the beach bars.. you can go hang out there and enjoy the sunset for free.  When I first moved down, we used to go all the time to Jimmie B's on St. Pete Beach and listen to live music.

Also, you can get discounts with your teaching id card or pay stub.  Ask some of the teachers at your school, I think there is a website for it in Pinellas - I know we have one in Hillsborough.

  • I'm going to skate at Tampa Bay Skating Academy, since they were quick to respond to my email.  Where's some good places to shop?  I know where Target & Walmart, etc. are; I would like to find a Macy's etc.  And does anyone know the process of retitling a car/getting a driver's license in FL?  I guess I have ten days to do so....
