how is it only humpday?

are we all calmed down over the excitement of yesterday's earthquake?  there is a really funny picture floating around saying "pictures of destructive east coast earthquake" and it is a picture of someone's cheap lawn chair fallen over.  i love it.

got in a GREAT run last night, but for some reason my body (hips and lower back mostly) are achy today.  i think i was running differently than normal to prevent my blisters from getting worse, so my gait was off. did not eat exceptionally swell last night--had 3 little shrimp puffs i was making for a BBQ today, which were not allotted in my points. guilty conscience.

today i have a work bbq, then a 3 hour meeting, then a work cocktail party (at which i will have water and maybe a small snack) then home by 6 for a run and to make dinner.  we need to start cleaning the house too bc we might be having company this weekend.

ok, im tired and sore.  entertain me today, people!

  • Thanks for resuming your daily posting responsibilities, shauni.  There is a lot of stress associated with these!

2nd night sans sleep.  Did manage to run to the grocery store, had dinner from the crock pot, cleaned up all the dishes, got a CPA recommendation, and got through another load of laundry last night.  Tanner went to DDC this morning and decided to jump the seat while I was dropping Baby Q off at the DCC.  So instead of being able to lay down in the hatch, she was crammed in half of a seat between the carseat base and the door.  Dumb dog.

Watched Ice Road Truckers with K last night.  I so hope Dave gets canned.

  • Yes, Shauni thank you for resuming your daily posting.

I also slept awful last night. I am so tired today! Tonight we have trivia if I can stay awake for my entire work day we will go.

Last night I caught up on my DVR and watched Teen Mom  while yelling at the TV with the stupid things they were doing. When Maci dropped Bently off at daycare and all of Farrah was the worst. When Greg came home late night we watche Clarrissa Explains it all so we got in a huge discussion about how life has changed with Ipods and internet very interesting but not one I wanted to have at 2am.

  • Morning all.  Sorry I've been MIA.  My replacement that we hired in Jan just decided to never show up again.  No notice and very vague texts to her supervisor.  Weird.  Been covering multiple departments and trying to stay current w/ our huge website overhaul.  It's taking a toll, I'm constantly tired.

Haven't been doing much outside of work.  But I signed up and have been using Sparkpeople (weight loss/healthy lifestyle website) religiously.  I like how it motivates you, which sounds weird from a website.  But I don't want to eat a donut, b/c then I have to log it.  And I feel that's not worth the effort.  But it's only been 2 days, we'll see how it goes.

Watched Teen Mom last night and I wish they would just get rid of the Amber storyline.  I mute it when she comes on, I can't stand her whiny voice and word vomit.  Farrah is getting on my last nerve too.  I just want to keep up with Maci and Catelynn, please MTV, get rid of the other two.

  • Seriously, I feel like it should be at least friday or even saturday!  The past two days have felt like an eternity!!!  Holy cow!

Last night, I was lame.  I had a pounding headache when I left work so I went home, heated up some dinner (J was at class thank god) and crawled into bed.  Turned into a migraine and I can't take my normal medicine so I keep taking the max that I can for tylenol hoping it will go away.  It has yet to do that.  Sad

It's hot and humid again.  Had to turn the air on last night.  I know this is weird, but I really want a brisk fall day this weekend (won't happen, supposed to be hot).  I'm in the mood to curl up with some comfort food like chili or something. It's kinda weird how you associate certain foods with certain times of the year..... But chili is always fall or winter for me!

Happy Weds. all!  Fingers crossed with all get through it! Smile

  • Got home a decent hour last night since I skipped the nursing home so I wouldn't get home at 10. J sent a text asking if I was on my way home and said I was. (The outpatient peds place is a mile or so from the house.) So I'm thinking "aww, he's being super sweet and cooked dinner and is trying to surprise me." (I'd like to add he did ask what I wanted for supper earlier in the day too.) Boy was I wrong. He just wanted my car. I didn't feel like cooking so made him pick up dinner on his way home from tennis.

I read my book for a little bit then crawled into to bed and slept. I cannot get up in the mornings. I don't know why. It's like I need 12-13 hours of sleep now just to function. Blah.

  • My lower back hurts. I feel 109 years old today. I had two inch long biscotti last night and was flagellating myself. Enough guilt.

    Otherwise, good morning!

MFD picked me up at 4 yesterday. I quickly packed lunch and gym bag and put laundry away, then we left to babysit the nephews. The baby was cranky and again I ask how the hell people go to work all day and then deal with cranky children. I was like is it bedtime yet? hahaha. After the baby went to bed, I painted my nails and toes and did an awful job. Even my six year old nephew told me it was messy.

We got home around 11:15 and I got right into bed. I was very nearly asleep and then was jarred out of it and up until after 1 then.

Grrrrrrr. I'm going to bed early tonight! The end.

  • Went to the gym last night and ran! Very pleased with myself, even though I'm as slow as molasses.

I'm really excited about my diet/weight loss. I put a ticker in my siggy. Maybe this time, I'll actually get down to my goal weight and stay there. I'm enjoying eating tons of fruit, even though I desperately miss my starchy carbs.

Even though I'm tired, I'm also really perky for it being a Wednesday.

  • Misty, my aunt uses sparkpeeps and likes it a lot.

Is there a petition to sign to get Amber off the show? Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Hate.

    image
  • I didn't realize Amber was still on the show - I haven't watched this season.  But I do hate her voice, so I guess I'm glad I haven't been watching!

I actually still haven't gone in to work yet, I'm going in late so I can do laundry.  So lame.  Last night I was feeling kind of off (don't laugh, but during the earthquake I felt a little woozy, and it didn't really go away) and I didn't get enough of my pre-trip chores done.  I was planning on going in a little late, to get a little done, and then Jeff sheepishly tells me this morning that his nice pants aren't clean.  So...they're in the dryer right now, in case I don't have time do to it later.  I have ten million other things to do when I get home from work.

I had a bad dream last night, where my mom and I got into a shouting match over the wedding 'duties' that she may or may not be assigning to me.  I have an uneasy feeling that it might come to pass, but in a less dramatic way - unless I've been drinking, I will suck it up and not scream at someone on their wedding day, even if they are being a heinous biitch.  I told her already that she can't enlist people to work, and not to count on volunteers because most people aren't going to want to do jobs when they've flown across the country and gotten dressed up for a wedding.  I guess she didn't take the hint, though, because her recent mass e-mail said that duties were TBA.  Um, yeah.  If it comes down to it I'm sure I'll wind up doing whatever stupid shiit she wants me to do, rather than cause a scene, but I'm freaking pissed, especially after the semi-scene (and all-around shitttiness) she caused at my wedding - and SHE volunteered, even after I told her it was no problem to have someone else do it.  If it involves manual labor, I may play the "Sorry, I'm in stilettos and Jeff just had knee surgery" card, though.

Wow, I'm cranky.  Well, just about this wedding.  And my mom being an uncaring biitch in general.  Last night she sent out another mass e-mail about wedding shiit and at the bottom added: P.S. "Laura, hope you and Jeff are ok, I heard there was an earthquake."   Look, I know it wasn't a big deal and we're fine, but it seems abnormal for a mother to be that apathetic, no?

    Ok, now I'm done.

What does your husband do in the fall?

From mid November until early April Gerren works.  70  hours a week.  We never have a day off together.  He works from 6 am until about 6 pm.  His days off are midweek.  Last winter we had 2 days off together.  Plus, yes, he hunts a little.  So our last few weekends together before he starts working his winter shifts, he is hunting, so it is just all around horrible.

the plus side?  i have time on weekends for getaways without feeling guilty!  i will be visiting mom and lia down in the DC area at one point and alison in phillie too!

That stinks.  I can relate.  Although Josh doesn't work that much, this will be the first time in 5 years that neither one of us is working AND in school (He finishes school next week).  Even when he was working and in school, he usually hunts on nights he doesn't have school committments, and the weekends are a given.  With the baby coming, I'm letting him do his thing as much as possible (as long as the pregnancy is still going well.) b/c he's also big into ice fishing- which will not be happening as much with the little one on the way.

I'm like you and I use the time to do things myself and not feel guilty.   Soak up all the Gerren time you can now lady! Big Smile

Agreed, I can also relate. We work different hours and now with football starting he Greg will be working a lot more on the weekends. It def sucks but I feel like our time together is better and now I will be able to do shopping and breakfast with friends.

Moleson- I am also letting Greg do a lot of this too. In Sept he is going to an FSU game with some buddies, I was invited but I don't know if I want to deal with a bunch of drunken adults and college kids. He is also going to the FSU/BC game in Novemeber this will be his last trip since it is extactly a month before I am do.

  • Hey ladies. I am late getting in on this this morning. Slept in a little and now I am working on laundry (after dishes and such). Getting ready to go mow our lawn before the storms they are forecasting start later this afternoon.

Last night I met hubs after work and we went to our local drive-in hotdog place that is absolutely yummy to the core. Gotta love foot long chili cheese dogs and chili cheese fries with rootbeer coolers. Then went to a sports bar type place my cousin manages to hang out with my dad and listen while he DJed. Tried to start a convo with my cousin about possibly working there... it's a drive though, and I don't think it's a busy enough place to be worth it. We'll see.

So sorry you and Mr. G are on wierd schedules in the fall Shauni, that is sucky.

Oh, and found out that the envelope I got yesterday was from the person I was sorta thinking about "working for" two weeks ago when they totally dropped off the face of the earth... I figured that in itself was a scam when the email they sent suddenly disappeared, then radio silence until yesterday. HA. Sorry, I am NOT that gullible and you can just leave me alone now.

  • Morning, ladies.

Had another pretty lazy night last night.  Wish I didn't feel so tired these days, but it is kind of nice to just take it easy.  H had his first official ice cream/any kind of craving run for me last night, which was sweet.  I wanted cookies & cream ice cream.  We had other kinds, of course, just not that.  Stick out tongue

This morning I'm feeling totally pukey, so took my anti-nausea meds and laid down on the floor in my office.  Of course that led to a 'help, I've fallen and I can't get up' feeling when I tried to stand up.  It's much easier when I'm on the bed and can just roll over!

    image
  • Tbears - glad you figured out about the check, and didn't get burned by depositing it or anything.

Susie - hope little man feels better soon!  When you WFH, BabyQ still goes to day care, right?  I'm trying to plan my maternity leave, and am hoping to WFH PT for a few weeks to ease back in to work, and one of my supes was saying I'd still need care for Predator while I'm working.  I get that if it was my regular work schedule, but I'm just talking about getting X amount of work done within 1 week, so I'd obvs only charge them for the time I'm actually able to work.

    image
  • Hi ladies, I am also getting in late after sleeping in and doing some chores today, I also have some yummy bread baking right now.

Yesterday I did household chores (do they ever end?), mowed the lawn, picked up substitute teaching applications, did some shopping and picked some things out of the garden. Last night I went for dinner with the parents and then crashed at 9 since I wasn't feeling well.

Shauni, I am right there with you, it sucks. During the summer months DH only works around 55-60 hours a week, once high school sports start he is working more since he covers some of them, then add in reffing hockey and volleyball. This year I am adding much more to my workload too since I know we won't see each other ever anyway.

  • Mush - Baby Q stays home with me when I WAH for the time being. BUT, he is a very easy baby.  If he was a high needs baby I never would have tried it in the first place.  He still sleeps quite a bit and is content for me to put him in his exersaucer, super seat or activity mat for up to an hour at a time.  When he gets testy he sits with me at the computer or goes in his swing.  It is helpful b/c I'm still nursing, so I can feed him while checking email whereas at the office I have to leave my cube/computer to go to the health center to pump.  It would be a hassle at home too b/c you still have to set up, refrigerate the milk, clean pump parts, etc.  Continuity is a win for all.

The current set up is just temporary, and I cleared it (keeping him home) with my boss first.  I expect that once Baby Q is toddling he'll be going to DC 5x/week.  But I'll still WAH 2x/week to be closer to baby/dc.  I also have a very project-driven job (vs having day-to-day typical tasks), so if I'm behind I'll just put in a couple extra hours in the evening after DH gets home, which I could end up having to do regardless of whether I'm at home or the office.

EB - what kind of bread?  do you have a bread maker or do you bake it in the oven?

Xtine / Moleson / Mush - are your DH's voluntarily limiting their time on their hobbies or have you had to have a 'talk' about post-baby committments?

  • Last's night hike did not happen. It was simply too hot even at 6pm and we didn't want to wait later so we ditched that idea and ordered Mexican take-out, yummy shrimp burrito for me and chicken for J (and go me for eating half of the huge tortilla). My allergies also seem to be playing games with me. My eyes are puffy and I feel like I can sneeze at any point (or maybe I'm coming down with a nasty cold, ggrrr). We also watched Teen Mom last night, Amber is nuts. Maci is nuts. And I hope Farrah doesn't move away (although I remember reading one of her tweets a few months back that they might have moved to FL or something, can't remember). Anyway, WFH today and Allie the dog and I also ran 3.5 miles in the wee hours.

  • Thanks, Susie!  Yeah, this was just annoying.  My big boss is fine with it, because it's project-driven, like you're mentioning.  If I had to be on a call from x-y time, of course I'd figure something else out.  But what I'm talking about doing from home is legislative analysis, which is a totally solo project.  But MH made me paranoid, because they can WFH (he usually does 1 day/week), but are very strict that it's not to be combined with child care.

And I totally agree on BF'ing, that being home with baby is much easier.  This was even just to help out, because this would mean starting back earlier than I'd otherwise do.  So if I'm doing this to be helpful, I'm sure as hell not going to inconvenience myself more than necessary.

On the hobbies, H has limited himself.  He usually plays hockey Wed & Fri nights, but his Wed team took the summer off.  When it was time to sign up a few weeks ago, he kept asking me what I wanted him to do.  I made it clear that I think 2 nights EVERY week is excessive, because the games range from 6:15-10:45 in start time, so it's never consistent.  He totally agreed, and said that's what he thought as well.  We talked about him maybe being half time on both teams because they're different levels of play.  I said he could do both for this season, though, because it would end around January.  He hemed (sp?) and hawed until it was too late and his Wed team filled up, so that made the decision for him.

    image
  • Mmmmm, Leo, now I want a shrimp burrito!  Yummo.  And yes, yesterday was beastly hot.  H took our pup to the dog park at around 6:30, and at one point in her chase after the ball she ran through some shade from a tree, and turned around and just laid down in it.
    image
  • Greg's hobbies are drinking and going to sporting eventsStick out tongue Which I also enjoy as well. I would normally go on these trips he has planned but don;t want to since I'm pregnant for the first one the second I can't fly so thats a no go. He was talking about going to the National Championship game if FSU made it. I told him F NO!!

He has been cutting back himself and once B gets to be old enough (couple months/baseball season) she will just come with us. Not to the bar to sporting events.

  • Susie - No bread maker for me. Today I made a Finnish "sweet" bread called Pulla, my grandparents were both first generation American and moved here from Finland so I try to make a lot of traditional breads. (http://globaltableadventure.com/2011/03/24/recipe-cardamom-sweet-bread-pulla/).
