  • I am a "getting things done" machine today!   Textbook ordered, forms filled out, calls completed, anniversary party invite draft done...

    Wheeee!!

  • Afternoon!

I just signed J and I up for a infants massage class.  Smile  Should be interesting.

  • It would be great if someone figured out how to teach infants to massage mamas.

  • Fashion question: I just bought a pair of pants on summer clearance. They are khaki-and-white pinstriped, very thin stripes. So the color from afar looks pretty light. They are intended to be summer pants, I would guess from the discounted clearance price. I'm not a subscriber to the "no white after Labor Day" rule, but how long into the upcoming season do you think I could wear them without having people wrinke their nose?

  • Hi!

Way to go, GRSP, on knocking off the to-do list.

I'm not familiar with infant massage classes.  Sounds intriguing though.  May I ask what the benefits are?

The write up from the hospitals website claims "Benefits include helping your baby sleep more deeply, reducing colic symptoms and gassiness, and improving your baby's digestion.  Infant massage is relaxing and soothing."  But I think the biggest benefit is it gets mama out of the house.

LOL   James has his own version of mama massage it includes head butting the chest, pummeling the boobs with tiny fists, and kicking on mama's abdomen.

Are they relatively lightweight pants, or are they a heavier, more fall-like material?  I am not expert on this in any means (I wore courderoys a few weeks ago, and I'm sure that's a faux pas), but I think the material might make a difference.

    Yes

  • Chymes - I think you'd be fine to wear khaki year round, I guess it does depend a bit on texture, as Kasa mentioned.  If they were linen I'd opt for wearing them until the weather turned cooler, if they are standard khaki material (whatever that is) I think they'd be fine year round.  But I tend to follow the I DO WHAT I WANT rule when it comes to fashion. :-)

The fabric is more lightweight than, say, Docker's chinos. But not as light as linen. They look like khakis.

  • This week has been busy, and it wasn't helped by the fact I wasn't feeling well.  I'm feeling MUCH better today, so that thrills me.

Still so much to do after work.  Packing.  Many, many doggie hugs. Eating/clearing out perishable foods.  Prepping hiking food.

Also drinking a beer and enjoying the start of vacation whilst doing the above activities.

Good luck, Juli!  Getting ready for a vacation always totally stresses me out.

Can I ask what you're preparing for "hiking food"?  I'm starting to think about food for our Hawaii trip.  I think I want to bring (or buy when we get there) food that falls into that category.

Ah, yes... I forgot about that.

The infant massage also promotes more bonding between mom and baby.  Enjoy the class, and getting out of the house, Mira.

Back to the drawing board.  Willa's figured out that yellow wins all the time.  Henry gets assigned pink a lot...  sigh.

Well, we're kind of meticulous about packing our food.  We pack a gallon bag that contains our food for each day.  We have one gallon general bag for other items that we will use varied amounts of every day (dried fruit and nuts, extra tea, extra cider packets, extra granola bars, etc.)  Each of those items is in it's own quart sized baggie.  So, our gallon bag of food for one day for both of us includes:

2 packs of oatmeal + dried fruit and nuts + tea (breakfast)

    2 granola bars (snack)

2 lunch packs containing a bag of trail mix + a portion of jerky + a Clif bar (lunch)

    2 Mountain House meals (dinner)

2 packs of instant chai tea and/or instant cider (dessert)

That was probably a way longer answer than you needed. :-P

I'm sure this is frustrating as the mom, but it made me lol.  I was kind of a ruthless big sister.  My little brother is nearly six years younger than me and there were many games, notably Monopoly where I would "creatively" interpret the rules to most benefit me.

Lol.  When I read GRSP's post I thought I would have done the same thing as Willa.  I too was a bit of a ruthless big sister.   I use to tell my little brother I would trade him 10 pennies for just 1 measly quarter.

  • My younger sister wouldn't play games once she started losing.  This was frustrating to me, so I had to devise a way to let her win for a long time until I was ready to swoop in and trounce her.  I know the ways of a sneaky older sibling. ;)

Having a little brother is awesome.  I would make mine play Barbies with me.  And I'd also play dress up with him, where I basically covered him in costume jewelry and put "make-up" on him.  Unfortunately, I couldn't really get creative playing games though, because if he loss to much he'd go crying to my mom.  Baby.

    Ah, memories.  Smile

Thanks!  This is really helpful.  I'm impressed by your organization.

  • When we moved to Michigan our new house had three bedrooms that my younger sister and I could pick from. I told her that Mom and Dad would gladly knock out the wall between the smaller two bedrooms so that she could have the biggest bedroom - so she picked the second-largest room in anticipation of that happening. I got the biggest bedroom. No walls were knocked down.

Ha, I once took a photo of my brother dressed up in one of my outgrown dresses.

I am also the oldest of all the cousins on my mom's side.  If I was assigned chores in exchange for an allowance, I would delegate tasks to my younger brother and cousins for fractions of the amount, while I kept the bigger share and did no work.  Whatever happened to my entrepreneurial prowess?

  • I'm loving everyone else's stories as well!  Looks like we have a lot of first borns on this board.
