Coming up next month, I will "celebrate" being an expat for ten years. (Okay, I am a bit generous with the number considering that I have spent several months in the States but I feel like I can round up)

It was two years on August 18th.
Right now the plan is forever, unless of course we see that it's financially better for us in the States once we're in retirement.
1. One year and two months.
2. June 30th, 2010 I arrived in Switzerland and officially on July 4th we moved to Zurich. The dates were easy to remember being so close to independence day.
3. 4 weeks left. I wish I could of put more time in. But it was emotionally draining for me to live abroad for a year. It stressed my husband and he's constantly worried about me.
I wish we would of done this 5 years from now instead. I felt like I was at an in between age to meet people here and I still haven't finished my degree so there weren't any long term job prospects for me.

2012 Reading Challenge
Now Nesting from Chicago, IL My nail blog:
1) We just hit the 6 month mark.
2) Funny, since it's only been 6 months, but no I don't remember the exact day off the top of my head. I'm certain it was the last week in February.
3) At least 1.5 more years, but assuming we like it (which we really do so far) we'll be here until we want to leave -- which I'm guessing (based on other expats in a similar situation here) is a total of 6-8 years.
1.) How long have you been an expat? About 2.5 years
2.) Do you remember the exact day? I think it was March 7 for me, and March 1 for DH. I was delayed a week since the lawyers screwed up and my visa was originally denied.
3.) How many more years do you count on being an expat? We're targeting another 1.5 years, but anything is possible!

Now jumping domestically.
Well that was a crazy couple of years.
1.) How long have you been an expat? -- Just over 7 months
2.) Do you remember the exact day? -- Landed January 23
3.) How many more years do you count on being an expat? -- The plan is forever, unless we win the lottery or our situation changes.
April 14 was 1 year.
I would like a few more years (although not in Tstan). Not sure if it will happen though, as it's all dependent on figuring something out in a place we both like long enough to stay 3-5 years. I'm not interested in doing a year here or there anymore.

2.) Do you remember the exact day? Tomorrow!! It is the same day as our anniversary, very easy to remember.
3.) How many more years do you count on being an expat? Well, since we're leaving in 3 weeks...one year and 3 weeks. But we do plan a stint in the UK after this contract is up and probably back to Israel after that.

Feb 2 was officially my expat anniversary. I was in the UK for six months in 2008 and went back for my visa, came back officially in 2009.
We'll probably have another 5-7 years here, depending on finances and job prospects in the US. I'd love to go home sooner, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

2. Will and I landed in Manchester on September 28. My H had been here back and forth since July.
3. We're heading back to the US in December. So 0 more years. I'm so excited to go back home, but I also feel really sad about leaving... The next 4 months are going to fly I'm sure.

3.) How many more years do you count on being an expat? We'll move back in less than a year, we think May 2012.
I dont know how old you are but at least for me my early 20's was a hard time for me to meet people because I was already married and all of my friends/classmates/coworkers were single and going out all the time. I didnt have kids either so I didnt fit in with the Mommy group. I could only imagine going through that during my first year abroad. Hope you guys enjoy the States.
1. 5 years as an expat, one year repatriated then we're back to being expats next month.
2. I know roughly when we moved to each place. Like first week of November, but the exact day? No.
3. I expect that we'll be continuous expats until DH retires. It seems that once the company knows you're willing to live abroad (and aren't afraid to do so in some rubbish places) you're on tap for lots of overseas opportunities.

2. Interestingly enough, the exact day was 4th of July, 2009. It's strange to celebrate your home country and celebrate arriving in your new country, both on the same day.
3. At the least, we will be here another 19 months. But the way this project keeps getting behind schedule, I could see it going another 6 months after that. There might be another project coming up after this one is done, and if it happens, DH will probably try to get on that one. I miss my family like mad, but this place is so great for my kids, I would jump at the chance to stay longer.

My Doha Adventures
I'm 22. I'm not big on going out so it never helped. I went to the women's club and as lovely as it was the women were 10 years older then me and had triple the cash to blow on activities. H makes good money here but we didn't have the 300 francs to blow each month on ladies lunches and couples dinners.
Thanks. Being back in the US allows both of our careers to flourish. Which is very important! I start back up college in January and hopefully I'll find my nitch when we settle down.
2012 Reading Challenge
Now Nesting from Chicago, IL My nail blog:
1) I count it as 3 years even though the first two were only in Canada. It was still a hassle with immigration, work permits, border control, cell phone changes, and travel costs so I count it as expat experience.
2) One year anniversary in South Africa is coming up in a few weeks. September 21st. DH came one week before so he could start work. I stayed behind because I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding.
3) We'll probably be here for another couple years and then most likely Italy. Though I wish it was the U.S.
Actually, my annyversary is today
9 years ago today I moved to the UK - August 30th, 2002 and stayed for nearly 8 years, only going back to visit family 1-2 times a year for masimum 2 weeks at a time.
Then last year on July 9th, 2010 I moved to the US to be with my now husband.
I think we are staying here for now. Maybe one day we will retire somewhere else, but no plans to move right now.

almost 6 years (1? in China, 4? in Norway)

I moved to China in late October 2005, but I don't remember the date.
I moved to Norway on February 1, 2007. I need this to fill out forms all the time, so I remember it.
3.) How many more years do you count on being an expat?
Somewhere between 1 and 100.
1. I have been an 'expat' for nearly 11 years - yikes. That's scary. Most of my adult life now. Interestingly, I never count myself as an expat...
2. 25 September 2000 (19 April was my marriage re-entry, but I moved over in September 2000, and that was the date that counted towards citizenship.)
3. Indefinitely at the mo.
1. I count it from the first time I left SA, because that is when my heart left too and I no longer considered it to be home, but rather a place to visit. October will be 6 years.
2. Moved to US on 15 October 2005, moved to UK 17 June 2007.

1) 3.5 years this time 9 months in Australia in 2005.
2) I landed in London on Dec 28, 2007.
3) We say 5-10 years, we have been saying this time line for about 2 years.
I would love to go to another country or two as well...

Try being in your late 30s/early 40s w/o kids and you will find out how hard it is to make new friends, though I feel like I have done so here in the last few years a lot more than I did in the beginning.
I'm not an expat now, but for a million years I thought my original expat anniversary was March 10th. Recently found out it was March 16th.
Oh well, at least I remember the year correctly - 1994.
