Mid-week randoms

I don't have daycare on Friday and I can't miss work.  I have asked 10 people if they can watch T, but no one can.

I don't hate my daycare, but I really hate that she can take days off whenever she feels like it and still charges me full price for those weeks.  It's beyond frustrating.

Re: Mid-week randoms

  • Good morning.

Molly, your daycare situation sounds very frustrating.  Is there a policy about how much notice she has to give you if she's taking a day off?

  • Is that common for a daycare to still charge full price when they aren't providing a full week? I would of course expect to pay full if I were the one deciding to not send my child for a day. But for the DCP to make the call that they are closing for a day but still charge you, doesn't seem right.

I have never understood that.  So many friends have said the same thing about their daycare.  Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time finding daycare.  I hope it works out!

I do the same thing. Funny thing is that it is a great website to peruse when you need a break.

HAHA...I know.  EVERYBODY is doing it!  I don't need one more thing to distract me from housework while Noah naps though.:)

I wasn't used to DCPs taking off random days because my old DCP would provide a back up.  Apparently I was really spoiled.

My new DCP considers 3, 4, and 5 days to be full time, so the only time I will get a break moneywise is if she takes 3 days off and T only goes 2 days.  It really, really sucks.

I don't want him to hurry and grow up, but I can't wait till he's not in daycare anymore.

Ok - this makes a little more sense now. It is still frustrating, I am sure. Fingers crossed you get something in line for Friday.

  • Des&Mol - that BS. Does she have a policy book? My home daycare providered had set holidays she had off and two weeks paid off - usually around Christmas and Spring break. If she to take another day off or some time off, she
  • DesMol, that is BS. Does this lady have a handbook with her policies? My provider had set holidays and two weeks off (or maybe it was one). If she had to take other days off, she gave us plenty of notice. Since I used her for three days, she wouldn't charge me for the day she wasn't working or let me bring the girls on one of my normal day offs.

Home daycares are great in that they charge way less, but it sucks because you are at the mercy of one person.

I'm being stubborn about Pinterest too.  I also don't need one more distriction, despite the fact that everyone is doing it!

Yep, that is why we went with a center.

  • I've been trying to give away a coupon for a free meal at Fazoli's that expires today, and nobody will take it!  I don't understand.  I love free food.
  • One of the guys that lives next door is a playa.

Henry and I were heading out for a walk this morning around 9:30. When we passed the porches a girl looked up and said hello. She was eating cereal with the guy we call goofball. This is the 3rd chick in about 2 weeks that has had breakfast on the porch with this guy.

    Ahhhh, college.

  • We have a old house, with hold doors, with old door handles. The handle in the bathroom fell off yesterday..no biggie. It has happened before. I set it on the shelf in the bathroom intending to get to it later. Allison was in the bathroom this morning and called me to help her. I go and see the door shut tight. My heart sunk...OMG...how was I going to get her out.  The handle is in the bathroom with her. I'm trying to get her to put the handle back in. (like that is going to happen) Then it dawn on me...get a handle off another door and put it through my side. So that is what I did. Phew!!! That did freak me out for a minute.

I am filing this trick away for future use. It is bound to happen to us.

  • I was visiting a friend with similar doorknob problems.  Three 8 year olds had shut themselves in the bedroom (after hiding both sides of the doorknobs an hour previous) and the door was stuck shut.  Luckily, it was on the 1st floor, and the screen came out of the window easily.  I don't know if they ever found those knobs again...

    Good thinking, Gvsu!

  • I'm told that I locked myself in a bathroom when I was 2.  There was no quick and easy solution.  Eventually, my grandpa saved the day and removed the door from the hinges.  My mom still gets kind of upset about that story.

If that didn't work, I don't know what I would have done. It was in our 1/4 bathroom.  Literally it is a cubby size room with a toliet. The hinges are in the inside of the room, there is a window, but I don't know if it opens and we wouldn't have been able to bust the door open because there is no safe spot Allison could have gone.

The shoeless guy (who owns the house) has a steady girlfriend. She is an old roommate of Mike's cousin actually. Very nice girl.

The playa/goofball rents a room from shoeless guy. He is really very nice as well. He gave Henry a Rubik's cube a few months ago.

But more importantly, does she wear shoes?

  • Maybe playa is buying silence with the Rubik's cube?  ;)

gvsu, that's a scary situation!  Glad you figured it out.  Do you have the doorknobs replaced?

So, Hersey's is doing a new campaign with their "air delights" kisses.  Interesting way to save $$ with cocoa costs skyrocketing.

  • Mol, if about 13 things were different (including maybe actually metting you and T in person) this week, I'd offer to have T here to play on Friday.  Shucks.  I hope you guys figure it out.

Yeah... I had the same thought.

Although, granted, there have been many times where I was eating Hershey kisses, and I thought to myself, "This is pretty good.  But do you know what's lacking?  Air.".

Wait... no... that has never happened.

  • I'm so tired of having visitors.  Especially ones that stay too long.  How can I politely tell people who call that I'm not up for company?
