Re: I'm bored. Ask me anything
What is your proudest accomplishment?
What is your biggest regret?
What should I eat for lunch?
Punky,
Not sure if this question qualifies as Good, aka. juicy. But I have been wanting to ask you anyway. Since you are from this area, and now live in SC, correct? Me & DH are planning on moving to NC next year. I grew up in FL (too hot) and MA is too cold (and too $$). So, what area of SC are you in (I'm sure it's been mentioned before)? What do you love the most about living down there? What do you miss the most from up here (and not family, friends, or specific restaurant, places)?
Thanks!
What is your proudest accomplishment? Getting my master's while working FT, helping to run rescue, fostering, taking care of my own dog, and newly married.
What is your biggest regret? Not doing study abroad while in college. I also passed up an opportunity to go to Russia for 3 weeks Freshman year because "I didn't know anyone else going." Stupid 18 year old.
I was just thinking about this yesterday while walking the dog!
What should I eat for lunch? You need panera. Get a 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 salad combo and an iced green tea.
I am actually from Arkansas, believe it or not! But I did live there for 10 years.
Yes, I live in Charleston, SC. I like it here! It is hot though. I would totally live in Charlotte or the Raleigh area (Cary and Chapel Hill are nice with good schools). I like the milder winters for sure. The people are a little friendlier and the COL for sure is better.
What I miss the most about up there- the ability to walk just about anywhere in the city, the fall weather (ours is very short here)! Sometimes I find myself missing the snow. I was also well connected up there for rescue and I miss that down here- the rescue world is NOT the same down here...
Where do you want to live, specifically?
Panera sounds awesome right now. It's like a 20 minute walk though so probably not doable. But it is a nice day for a walk...
Another question: What are your tips for someone thinking of adopting a dog for the first time?
I was born in Arkansas, but we moved to FL when I was a teeny tiny baby.
I want to live in Asheville, or somewhere along the mountains. I actually almost moved there before me & DH got serious...but DH is concerned about finding work there, and also wants to be a little closer to the ocean.
Charlotte seems to be a good compromise, but the Raleigh area has a couple of companies that DH is interested in. At this point, I'm ready to get down there, and we can spend the next couple of years figuring out where we want to be long term.
I love Fall also, and it is wonderful up here in New England. I actually love the snow too, it's just to long period of cold that was too much for me. So I know I'll miss some of that.
I love so many things about living up here, but I am ready to be in the area that we will be for the next 20 years, and I just don't think that this is it. I'm going to see if DH can take some time off from work, and maybe come down there a do a road trip to check out the different areas.
Thanks for your answers!!
What was your first job ever?
What was your major in college?
What was your first job out of college?
What is your dream job?
My friend here just moved to Asheville. She loves it- she misses Charleston but is having a good time in Asheville. It is beautiful up there. There is a good winery there too.
DH prefers to be close to the ocean, which played a big factor in our decision to move here.
Where in AR were you born. That is so random.
Well what is close? Then I can give you a better idea LOL.
Tips- really think about what you are looking in a dog's temperament. Do you want a young dog? An older dog? A housetrained dog? A puppy? An energetic dog? A low key dog?
So many people get SO wrapped up in breeds and looks that they don't think about the personality of dogs. If you want a really hyper, off the wall, energetic dog, then that weinmaraner or lab mix you are looking at may be a great match for you. But if you want a low key, happy to go on walks, but happy to chill on the couch kind of dog, look at the individual temperament and don't place as much emphasis on breed, color, looks, etc.
If you could pick any trip to go on all expenses paid where would you go?
What was your first job ever? Fazoli's! I worked there junior and senior years of high school.
What was your major in college? Undergrad- social work
What was your first job out of college? a case manager and housing advocate for the homeless
What is your dream job? Before I got this gig, I would have said victim services with the FBI or ICE. I'd still love to do that.
Realistically though, employee relations in HR is going to be my next goal.
Yeah, quite a few breweries in Asheville too, and a good music scene, which I know DH would enjoy both.
Hmm...I wonder why men want to be near the ocean
I was born in Benton. My family is actually from Wisconsin and the Chicago area, they had my brother & sister up there, then moved to AR, and had me. I've been there a couple of times when my parents visited some friends, most recently in Little Rock. Really pretty area, and my dad has talked about maybe retiring there
Right now, Italy!
MMMM....Fazoli's breadsticks
Who is your celebrity crush?
What is your favorite song at the moment?
Who is your celebrity crush? I wouldn't sleep with him or anything but I'd love to have a drink with Jack Nicholson! lol
What is your favorite song at the moment? Good Life, One Republic
I don't know what you mean by "good" but I'm going to make assumptions and ask questions MM style
How much money do you make?
How often do you and DH have sex?
How much do you weigh?
Who is your favorite and least favorite Nest poster (on any board, since this one is kinda small)?
Any interesting tattoos or piercings?
What do you really think of people who adopt a dog only to realize it was the wrong decision?
What's the most controversial HR-related thing you've personally seen or dealt with?
How much money do you make? Ha, not enough
How often do you and DH have sex? 1x week anymore- can I blame the baby? LOL
How much do you weigh? 111 this morning.
Who is your favorite and least favorite Nest poster (on any board, since this one is kinda small)? I love EastCoastBride on MM and Starlette on pets. I don't like JCole or whatever her SN is. But that is because she is always posting stuff like "Did anybody have there babys yet?"
What do you really think of people who adopt a dog only to realize it was the wrong decision?Any interesting tattoos or piercings? Interesting? No. Just a fairy on my back.
Totally depends. I think much more highly of them if they find a family member who wants the dog and gave it a chance- or who will foster while we find a new home.
I abhor people who dump the dog at a shelter, turn it loose, or make it some urgent issue, leaving us scrambling for a foster home under threats of dumping said dog at a shelter.
What's the most controversial HR-related thing you've personally seen or dealt with?
I can't say anything about my current job, but at my last one, there was an issue with regard to an admin playing/singing Christian music nonstop in open cube space. It was a predominately Jewish firm and the lawyers were all having a stroke over it. The other admins and the legal support staff were sick of it, as they preferred the more pop stuff.
Oh I almost forgot this one. One of the lawyers who was not a partner took cases without processing them through the firm's system. So she would pocket the cash and give a fair amount to the senior paralegal who would cover her writing tasks for her.
Haha, so if she were playing/belting out Lady Gaga it would have been OK?
Did you do any weird things a child?
How is the pup?
How is the kid?
Where is your must visit in NE and why?
What are you looking most forward to tis fall?
Did you do any weird things a child?
I was a very fast runner as a child. I could also swim really fast. I would constantly challenge boys in the neighborhood to races- me on foot, them on the bike. I also challenged them to me swimming vs them on foot. I always won.
I also punched a boy in the face in 4th grade for lifting my dress during recess. He never forgave me and the emotional battle continued through high school.
How is the pup? She is awesome! She has discovered that DS is fed FOOD in the highchair and now stakes it out 3x a day during meals.
How is the kid? Crawling, learning, growing. He's 19 pounds!
Where is your must visit in NE and why? I assume you mean New England- if so, Boston! It is a great city to visit and you can jam pack a week easily! If you mean Northeast, I'm going to go with NYC.
What are you looking most forward to this fall? Taking DS to the pumpkin patch and doing all that mom stuff with him there. I also can't wait to break out the crock pot again!
Yes.
But these were the same girls who would come to my office huffing all, "I don't like the way Sarah looked at me today."
And one of them was "late" coming back from her family home in Nantucket one Monday because her dad's plane had an engine problem and came straight to work wearing jeans, flip flops and a hooded sweatshirt. The lawyers were so aghast they had ME send her home. They couldn't even look at her.
You guys sound exactly like DH and I! We want to move back to Atlanta (or the Carolinas) soon! Can't stand the winters or the ridiculous COL up here. Not to mention we miss good college football
Do you want to have more kids?
If you had won $100,000, what would you do with that money? (you can't wait pay off bills, etc)
What kind of cell phone do you have?
How many TVs in your house?
Favorite dessert?
Thing you miss most about New England (if anything)?
I'm sorry my questions aren't very interesting!
I now picture the partners at your old place constantly looking like this:
Do you want to have more kids? yes, one more. I'm not opposed to the idea of 3, but I need to see how the recovery for the next one goes.
If you had won $100,000, what would you do with that money? (you can't wait pay off bills, etc)
Big DP on a new house! Maybe $75k for that and the other $25k for a decorator.
What kind of cell phone do you have?
Android
How many TVs in your house?
Just 1!
Favorite dessert?
Strawberry shortcake!
Thing you miss most about New England (if anything)? see above
If you could only have one of the following in your house, which would you choose: big kitchen, porch/deck, or big yard?
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
If you could have a "do over" for something in your past, what would it be?
