Re: Mid-week randoms
Can you tell them that you're still settling in, would love to see them, but then suggest a time in 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 weeks that would work better?
Wop, if there's ever a time that people should be understanding about good and bad times for visitors, it's now. If people call asking to visit, and it's not a good time, just say that you're excited to see them and introduce them to Renee, but you're exhausted, and ask to try again soon. You set the schedule, no one else (except for darling young Miss).
Is there general etiquette about how much time you should leave new mothers alone, before you come calling?
Just curious.
Kasa, I've never heard a formal ettiquette outlined.
There are a lot of variables: personality of the mom, ease of transition, closeness of relationships, baby's personality, eating issues w/ baby...
With Willa, I didn't really want to see anyone for the first 2 weeks because I was a little freaked out, and starting down the road of post partum depression.
With Henry, I was ready to open the door the day after we got home.
Try to stay one step of people and give them a time to visit. I learned that the 2nd time around with my MIL. We were sure to invite her over - a few days in advance (i.e. it gave us a few days without a visit) and it also made her feel welcomed and useful (we suggested she bring dinner over).
Thanks, GRSP!
I've been chomping at the bit to visit our friends' new baby, but I wanted to give them time to settle in. In the meantime, I keep buying stuff for the baby.
Aw... yay for a new baby friend. Hope you get a visit in soon.
Thanks. My interest in this baby is making B anxious.
Don't hesitate to say, "Oh, we aren't up for anything right now. Hopefully we can get together soon." Either set a date in a week or leave it up to them to follow up with you. People will be very understanding. You still need a lot of rest and baby schedules can change daily.
Awww...
I was ready to have visitors right away, but I definitely didn't want people staying too long,
This is me:
on the subject of B's anxiety.
Call your friend (or text if you're worried about a ringing phone on their end), and set something up.
Kindergarten next week?? Big stuff!!
I just reread that, and I hope you took that as I intended. Because it could come off as fairly b!tchy. I was just playing with the back and forth that you guys go through on this.
No, worries, GRSP. I got it!
Glad to hear that things are back to normal for you. And kindergarten next week! Wow!
Ok so here a late check-in from me.
Pinterest: Love it, still waiting for my invite from them though.
Baby visits: Wow I didn't realize that people rush over to see a baby so soon. Maybe I'm weird or something but I usually wait at least a month.
DayCare: That is a crazy business. I wish I could charge like that in my field.
Today was super busy. Dh locked himself out of the office while I was starting to get groceries so I had to drive from LK MI DR & Wilson to Downtown GR and then back. Shopping took forever but the cupboards are full!
Have to wake up early tomorrow to take SS to orientation tomorrow and then I work in the afternoon at PT job. New phone /computer system starts tomorrow and they only gave us a short training session and is wasn't very complete either so the next few days I'm sure will be Hellllish.
