Re: Friday Randoms
Good morning!
Somehow, I have reinjured my wrist. No idea how. Three years ago, I had tendonitis (self/mom-diagnosed) caused by a combination of yoga and kayaking. It healed relatively well, and I've just been careful with it since then. Well, yesterday it started hurting like crazy again. I have no idea why, but it was pretty sore last night. So, now I'm wearing my brace again. I look super cool. Hopefully it heals quickly.
So, Jinxy has always slept in bed with us at night. Over the past five years, sometimes she would sleep at the foot of the bed, but more often than not she would spend the night cuddled up right next to me.
Well, a couple of weeks ago, she apparently decided that a chair in the living room is a better place for her to sleep at night. And now, she no longer sleeps with me at night.
I miss her cuddles.
We had a close call with Amelia. We were in our living room and I was trying to get her in her PJs. She thought it would be funny to run away from me and tripped. She stumbled and went head first into the coffee table and had a cut to the left of her eyebrow. Luckily we were able to get the bleeding to stop on its own and I don't think it is going to bruise.
On vacation she tripped and went face first in the floor. She got a small bump and bruise then. But then, the railing along the stairs that went to the condo was right at her level and when she turned the corner she would run into the rail. She did it like three times that 2nd day. And then at the playgruond she bumped her head twice on a bar. By that night she had a DARK purple bruise and a huge bump. She looked awful. I will have to share a picture later.
Aw, poor Mia! She's going to be a tough cookie.
She did great! She cried for a bit and then we were able to distract her with Blues Clues. Allison was all concerned about her and would go over and say "awwww baby!!!" (she always does that when feels bad for Mia). Mia would get all pissed. "I'm not a baby Allison. I'm a big girl. Mom, Allison keeps calling me a baby."
That is hilarious. Great story!
TGIF! Two classes today and then I'm free! Free to work on my outline for LWR, that is.
Mia, is definitely a tough cookie. I like that she yelled at Allison for calling her a baby.
Kasa, G sleeps in our bed although usually at the foot. I can totally relate to missing the cuddles when she decides to sleep somewhere else. And I totally miss her cuddles right now, being away so much. Maybe it's just a phase for Jinxy and she'll come back.
At least my housemates have two dogs, though. I would be really sad with no pets at all. I've been taking care of the dogs since Wednesday since the housemates are on vacay and the dogs have been way more affectionate with me since then. One of the pups is pretty cuddly; he sat on my lap for about an hour last night. It's like they know I'm their only source of attention.
Aw, that's sweet. What kind of dogs are they?
I slept on the sofa last night. It was to hot in our house to be in the same bed with DH. He's always warm to start with and we don't have central air so anytime the temp gets above 88 he gets a little cranky if he can't stay cool. Side note I'm pretty sure him being cranky is all his Dad's fault and goes back 24 years when Dg was 10 and got heat stroke b/c his Dad didn't think there was anything wrong with him. Any way I was ok since I wasn't tired most of the night but when I did fall asleep I was waken by a surprise Store that flashed it's way into my living room.
oh and by cranky I mean like jekyl / hyde change in personality.
Totally want a puppy now!
The heat makes me cranky too. However, I don't have a good excuse like getting heat stroke when I was 10.
Hi all! Packing for me plus a baby is freaking hard! We are going to go "Up North" again this weekend. Fingers crossed it goes much smoother this time!
Kasa- Sorry Jinx isn't being cuddly lately. My night time cuddle time with Dexter was one of my favorite things. Sometimes I dream that he is there sleeping on my pillow with me.
GVSU- Oh Mia! Poor girl, good thing she is a tough cookie! And the dialogue between her and Allison cracks me up.
One is a 12yo Norwegian Elkhound and the other is a 3yo Keeshond. They are both super sweet and so easy to care for. I'm still much more a cat person, but as far as dogs go, these two are pretty great.
They're actually both adults. I just call them the "pups". A puppy would be fun, but way more work than these two for sure!
School starts Tuesday. WAAAAAAAAAAH! and YAAAAAAAAAAY!
Wah for getting up early (not that Mere allows for much sleeping in though)
and
YAY! for my new class. I met them at our Open House on Wednesday. I have some great families in my class. Such a change from last year when they put all of the 'uninvolved' parents in my room. That was tough.
I find that if I do too much of the touch-pad mousing that my pinky gets really weak and sore. It's all about the ergonomics and how terribly I sit at home when I'm using my laptop. And ultimately I have to limit my laptop use or wear the stylish brace (which works wonders and was provided by my employer). Glad you were able to enjoy the book instead!
Hmmm... you sound like you work for a office furniture manufacturer.
That's great to hear that you have more involved parents this year. Hope school goes well for you!
Might it be heat-related? Athena and Callie sleep with us from mid-September to about mid-June, but when it's really warm they prefer to sleep on their own.
YAY for a great class with great families! Supportive parents are always a huge plus. This is my first year not going back to school...feels weird! Have a great year! What district do you teach for?
I thought of that. But she slept with me all through August which was the hottest month in the universe (or something like that). She didn't leave until a couple weeks ago when the weather cooled down.
Hopefully when it gets cold, she'll come back to me.
Last night, Greta cuddled up between Jim and I. She was soooo happy. I let her stay for an hour, and then kicked her off. She takes up a lot of space. I hope Jinx returns soon, Kasa.
The dynamic between Allison and Mia is so interesting to me. I really love hearing stories about them, gvsu.
How cool is this! Aquinas's Library has Kindles, IPads and Wiis available to lend out to students!
I was so impressed and my reaction was like "Grand Valley never had anything like that available for us when I was an undergrad." Then I realized none of those things really existed when I was an undergrad!
HA! That is pretty cool.
I love this article:

First and foremost: Holy FUG.
That is a really dumb shirt. I would never purchase it for my hypothetical daughter.
