What did your husbands do for a bachelor party?

I'm in charge of planning one and need a general idea what guys consider normal.  My first husband went to the batting cages and a movie, but the better husband didn't have any sort of outing.

Re: What did your husbands do for a bachelor party?

  • My H and his groomsmen (his best friend, my little brother, and his dad) all went to a bar nearby after a day spent at an off-road park. They left around 10:00, had breakfast at Waffle House, and were home by 11:00 pm. He loved it!
  • H didn't really have one because he and his groomsmen came from out of town, all from different places and got to CO the day before the wedding.  He and his best man did go bowling on the morning of wedding though.

So basically, this was of no help to you.

  • He went paintballing and then stayed the night at my brother's place and drank beer and played video games.

  • Is a day-long event overkill?

We don't have professional (or even minor league) sports anywhere in our vacinity, otherwise I'd send them to that.  What do you think about sending them for a late morning/early afternoon round of golf (not morning.  They'd be drunk by 9am.), then a nice dinner, the Irish pub, then strip club?  Is that a decent man date?

    That sounds perfect

Good call.  I'll check on that and laser tag.

  • MH had a boys' night at a bar with his brother and a couple of friends, but his brother was the only groomsman there and H ended up DDing since he doesn't drink much anyway.

The night before the rehearsal dinner most of our wedding party went high-speed go-kart racing. That was pretty neat.

  • Depends on who you ask.  If you ask T they went to a soup kitchen, read to the blind and then another soup kitchen.

Really they pre-gamed with the girls at his dad's house, then each group got in a limo and went our separate ways.  The boys took T to strip clubs.

    I think this is perfect.

E and his best man stayed up late watching Star Trek and eating brownies.

    That;s hilarious!

H had a stag party, which is what everyone in our hometown does, but many other areas hate them (which I never knew until TK).  It was at a VFW hall, and tickets are sold to it.  They have tons of food, beer, raffles, and strippers, and H's had blackjack dealers too.  During the day they had went on his friend's boat too, and then out to the bars after.

I think the day you are thinking of planning sounds great.

  • My H and his friends went golfing the day before the wedding and the day of the wedding.  Most of the groomsmen were from out of town.  They had wonderful thought of going deep sea fishing but I had to put my foot down.  I could just see them running out of gas and getting stuck way out in the ocean.  Funny enough the guy's boat they were going to take out broke the very next weekend and they had to be towed back to shore.  I remind the H of that story every once in a while that it is smart to listen to me.  HAA!!!

I on the other hand had two parties.  One in New Orleans and one at the beach.

  • Mine went out to topless bars.  Then i think they went to a casino for a little bit.  Then to someone's house to drink.
  • I wasn't ever given the complete details, but it involved a handful of guys going to a few bars, probably with a strip club in there somewhere, and I think they started at Hooters, or a similar type of place.

Nothing huge.  DH might have preferred something like batting cages...

For my brother (I know about his because it made for some amusing stories), his friends dressed him up in a batman outfit, and too him out for a night - bars, hockey game, supper, etc...  He ended up _really_ wasted, and his friends had to pull him away from the cops outside the hockey game, when he (drunkenly) started chatting them up along the lines of "Us law-defenders need to stick together"...  (keep in mind, he was in a batman outfit at the time...)

Maybe a golf outing?  I could DH enjoying and afternoon of golf, followed by supper and a nice pub or two...

ETA: I just saw that you suggested something along the lines of a golf day...  Heh.  Obviously it sounds perfect to me!  :)  Maybe leave the choice of bars/clubs up to the guys, with a few suggestions if they don't know the area very well.

Here's the (very weird, sigh-worthy) story.

DH has suddenly blossomed in the social department and has about half dozen really good guy friends.  Only one of those guys is married and he has a toddler.  DH told me he and that friend were bonding over their lack of bachelor parties (Confused We've been married over 4 years...weird time to bring this up), so DH wants to have a joint belated bachelor party with his friend.

    LMAO.

He intended to plan it and have the details be a surprise for his friend, but I offered to plan it so it could be a surprise to both of them.

This is precisely why I say "Oh, Joe," so often.  He can be so goofy.  He doesn't need an excuse to go see strippers, or to go golfing, but apparently putting a title on it seems really neat.

  • Dh didn't really have one.

We had a Jack & Jill party,  we all went bowling, and then went to my bothers house and drank.

  • My XH went to a boobie bar and got a BJ.  He was a real winner.

J didn't have a B party.  He had planned to go fishing with a few of the guys that morning, but they got rained out.

    Ojoe is a dork.

H played pool with his brothers. I started fights with sailors at mine, as you well know. You should try and schedule that part in, since it was so fantastic. Can you find some sailors? Airmen won't work as well. Maybe some reservist Marines?

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

The only Marines I'm aware of are the recruiters at the mall.  I could definitely work that in.

I did brag to Joe that I kept you alive and and without visible signs of fist fights, so he's pretty excited.

Oh man. Can you imagine the insanity if he had actually punched me? I know he wanted to.

  • He didn't have one I don't think.  He was working for a think tank in D.C. at the time (travelling back and forth) and our wedding was in KCMO.  His groomsman came from all over and most didn't get there until Friday night.

  • DH went to Dave and Busters then went bar hopping with the guys. But he did plan a really sweet Bachellor party for one of his friends. He was able to work it out to get really good seats at a UFC style cage fight. (I think it was UFC, I plead girly ignorance in any sort of boxing/wrestling sport activities). Then they got drinks at a sports bar later. I heard that it was amazing.

  • My H and a few of his guy friends just went to Outback for dinner and a couple beers.

That's terribly funny actually. DH patently refused a bachelor party and any related hijinks. I think your idea sounds really good. Anything that starts with outdoor sports, has drinks in the middle and rowdy good fun at the end sounds perfect. If they get pooped early, they don't have to finish the whole day of plans if they don't want to.

  • My H and his buddies went to the Hofbrauhaus, to a few other bars and then attempted a strip club. My husband had drank to much and spent his only time at the strip club in the bathroom. I do not suggest this itinerary. Luckily, it was a couple days before the actual wedding.
  • H and his groomsmen went to an amusement park for a day for his party.

  • H didn't have one because his best friend was deployed, some of the others were in training, and his brother lives out of town. When he gets home from deployment he's going to do what he was originally planning to do: deep sea fishing.

  • He didn't think he'd have one since we had no wedding party and were having a DW.  However, a couple friends surprised me with a party, with H in on the planning.  What he didn't realize was that the guys were also planning a surprise for him.

It was supposed to be strip club for them, dinner for me, and then we'd all meet at a bar after.  It ended up being strip clubs for them all night and dinner plus a few bars for us before crashing at the house we were all supposed to end up at.  I honestly don't remember where he ended up sleeping that night.

I had a lot of fun, and I was appreciative that 4 women I barely knew (I'd moved there 3 months prior) threw a great night for me.  I think H would have preferred something different, honestly, but it was great how the guys took care of him.

  • They were supposed to go camping, but had a freak ice storm, so they cancelled.  Instead, they bought a UFC fight on Dish and drank too much.  They trapped a raccoon outside in the yard, and paid the pizza guy something like $30 to go get them ice, since none of them could drive.  Turns out he owned the pizza place--this is how we became friends with our old local pizza/pub owner.
