Not to try and sway you, but Christmas with a kid makes Christmas way more fun!  I haven't been in the "Christmas spirit" in YEAAAAAAARS... but it's been so fun with Cadence and the whole Santa excitment and all of the fun things that happen around Christmas.

Last year she proclaimed "Mommy, Jesus is coming and he's bringing presents!"

That's another thing.  This isn't a B&M but DH and I were talking whether to do Christmas or Hanukkah this year.  We've never done a full blown Christmas (ok maybe this last year we did) ourselves; when we've done Christmas at his folks house, they do stuff.  DH is extremely flexible and whatever we do is up to me so I said if we are going to do all of this then do Hanukkah, which we have never done.  Then I realized we wouldn't necessarily have a tree so where would I put our ornaments that I've collected?  We do have an ornament exchange, am I prohibited from doing that?  My plan was to make DH one every year, do I have to stop that?  He popped that balloon real fast for me.  DH said we could make an ornament board or something since it made me so sad.

Now reading your posts about Christmas, it reminded me that I always wanted a gigantic breakfast on Christmas morning with our family.  Now what?

It'll all be okay, it's just weird and will take some getting used to.

Why can't you do a little of both?  Have a 4' tabletop tree or something to display your favorite ornaments?

We will do a combo of both I'm sure.  I just had an initial freakout about the ornaments!  We've even talked about putting them on the mantle so that may be an option.

We do a big breakfast at my parents' house on Christmas morning.  I love it.  We used to open gifts then make breakfast, but last year we did breakfast first, and it was wonderful.  Everyone gets to pick their favorite breakfast thing and we have massive amounts of food - muffins, waffles, pancakes, biscuits, bacon, sausage, eggs... I think that might be it.  Can you tell we like bread?  Anyway, it's one of my favorite things about Christmas.  Please forgive my ignorance, but why couldn't you still do a big Christmas Morning Breakfast?  Or maybe a Hanukkah Breakfast?

Jaymi, at the risk of being flamed, I think you can do any combination you want, come up with your own thing. When I was growing up, I had Jewish friends and Muslim friends who did not celebrate Christmas but still put up a tree. I am not religious, but I still love Christmas time and participate in all the activities, for me it's all about family and the people I love. I say, create your own traditions.

That's exactly it for us too.  We're not extremly religious either, but its so fun to teach all of the different ideas and ways to celebrate to Cadence.  We're making our own traditions and that's what makes the holidays so special!

  • Jaymi - I'm with the others. You guys should figure a way to do both. I am religious so for me we had this whole day of stuff and it was very symbolic to have everything. Now since I won't be spending all morning on Christmas day at church with my folks, DH and I will start something new. Even though I love Christmas, I'm on the wait until after Thanksgiving boat.

I'm googling Body bugg. I honestly all weekend felt like I'm getting massive so I'm ready to check out anything.

Edit: Did we want to do the Ornament exchange again this year?

Christmas decor is already hitting the shelves in stores.  They were listing all the stores and when that would start and all I caught was K-Mart, the last on the list, will start on the 25th of this month.  It is September

Hobby Lobby had the Christmas decor out in JULY!

What's wrong with that?  I put Christmas lights up on my house already!

LOL, just kidding.  You guys know I am a staunch supporter of no Christmas paraphernalia out before the day after Thanksgiving.

Christmas eats Thanksgiving (and even Halloween these days!!) = Bad News for Tiffany

I don't want Christmas to eat Thanksgiving and Halloween. I love those holidays. Particularly Thanksgiving... nom nom nom.

    BUT

I do love me some Christmas music. And movies. And weather. I don't like that the stores carry it all so terribly early, but I am guilty of starting Christmas in the McG house the first week of November instead of waiting until after Thanksgiving...

As long as your Thanksgiving and Christmas can take place in perfect and distinctly different harmony.  I forgive you. :-)

I am excited about Christmas this year.  First year to decorate our own house...aaaand I have a Christmas ornament from every vacation we have taken together...and a getting married one last year... now I get to get a new home one. :)

Tiffany, this totally made me smile!!  How exciting!  I really want to get a "just married" type ornament now.

Also, I normally don't like to see Christmas stuff in the stores yet, but I did find the most perfect stocking holders last week on major clearance!  I'm super excited to decorate our mantle now!

My B&M, I'm super tired today and I fear it's going to be a long work week.  I went to bed late then couldn't fall asleep. :(

  • All of this Christmas talk has me excited and a little bummed.  The time with family will be awesome, but I know that time is going to be rough since I hate packing and we're moving the week before Christmas.  Also means no decorations in our apartment this year.
  • Not a lot to B&M about today.  I slept great but woke up feeling like I got hit by a bus.  I think I'm more tired this trimester than last.

It's going to be an emotional week for my family and Kidd Kraddic didn't help this morning.  My sister called me crying and I was already crying from listening.  Good thing milkshakes seem to help me find a happy place!

  • My B&M is that DH's friend came over at 11am yesterday for football....and stayed until 10PM!!!! Seriously. They definitely weren't in the way, but I had some work and other things I wanted to do around the house that made it hard to do. I know he's excited we live by each other now....but I think we need to do a better job of setting some boundaries. Which will not be easy.

Funny to hear all of the Holiday talk. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I always go a little crazy, so I've been debating whether it's too early for me to start decorating. I thought I was ahead of schedule!

  • I'm pretty sure we will be mixing the two somehow.  Just the initial shock of "No ornaments??"  All is good.

Tiffany, this totally made me smile!!  How exciting!  I really want to get a "just married" type ornament now.

We got married at the end of 2009 and we were at Hallmark a week or so before and they had a "First Christmas" or something on clearance.  It wasn't until this past year that I got a real good look of the ornament and it says something about our First Holidays Married, 2009.  Well no, our first Christmas was in 2010.  Oh well.  We got a good laugh out of it.

  • My B&M is that my H went back to work yesterday (he was on a 12 day vacation from the move) and now I am stuck with his parents all. day. long. I have no idea what to do to get me out of this house. I've been to 8 malls, the movies twice, and countless trips to Target.

And then I got suckered into going to a dinner/church event with my MIL tonight. She knows I have no life right now, and making up an excuse would have been awkward.

It's too bad we can't have a GTG every night, Jenn!

  • @Jaymi - (I didn't want to do the quote thing 'cause it's too long) - I'm confused as to why you would do Hannukah?  At first I thought Marcus must be Jewish but then you said something about his family doing Christmas. ??

As you all know, Ben is Jewish but I still do everything--tree, I host Cmas Eve for my family many years, he attends everything with me.  I still get him 8 gifts for Hannukah and I let him open a few but I make him save 1 or 2 to open with me on Christmas morning.  I get him a stocking and he loves that.  We celebrate Hannukah at his parents' house.

Last year, I told him I was going to Cmas Eve service at my church and he was like, "Hey, I'll go with you."  I loved that he was there with me.

ETA:  Julie how was the GTG?  Sorry if I missed a post but I'm busy and was just skimming...

  • I would be up for the ornament exchange again!  That was so fun!  I definitely don't put up any decorations until after Thanksgiving!

So I am really disappointed that I don't get to do TTD pictures anymore :-(  DH just wouldn't cooperate and so we had to cancel them.  I am hoping I can get him to do them for our anniversary or something at least.

Today really hasn't been that eventful, thankfully.  I am excited to do the Jailbreak this weekend!  Yay!  It will be fun! :-)

Yes his family does Christmas as does my family; I love my grandparents Christmas Eve service they do at their church and of course we will go if we are there.  Marcus has been aligned with Jewish thought for quiet some time well before we met (I was completely aware of this) and we just started attending church regularly a few months ago and of course they promote Hanukkah.  We have not converted or anything like that.

When the holidays roll around we will figure out a balance and Marcus is really flexible and whatever we decide, he will be cool with.  Prior to last year, I did not feel the need to decorate and get a tree because it was just the two of us and we were not even at home.  Last year I only did it because we had a new house and it was our first and I love the smell of Christmas trees.

  • So this is old news probably but I just saw it on another board. Did you know the Teen Mom girls make $280,000 a year? WTF?!?

  • I really, really, really have to stop biting my nails.. at least for the next two weeks.

    Home Remedies anyone?

That bad tasting stuff doesn't work, neither does slapping myself on the wrist with a rubber band.  I don't really have a trigger that causes it, I do it unconsciously all the time.

The only thing that worked for me was to have acrylics put on.  Sometimes I even bite those, but rarely.

Oh yes, I think I've asked this before because I remember that.   Acrylics sort of work for me.... once they start to grow out even a tiny bit though I start picking around the edges.

I am supposed to get the gel manicure for the wedding I'm in next weekend.... so I need to have at least a little bit of length so I don't look ridiculous.

    Easier said than done.

Yeah me too.  I slather my cuticles in Vitamin E oil every night.

  • Hey Ladies!

Checking in a little late here, but thought I'd say hi.  Not much to B&M about.  This weekend was awesome!

    @ Leslie - $280k a year?!?  each???

@ Tiffany - I always keep a pair of cuticle nippers and a file with me.  In my desk at work and home, in my purse, etc. This way as soon as I start picking, I can either file the rough nail or clip the cuticle that is bothering me.  It helped me out, but I guess you do have to be conscious about it.

@ The Christmas discussion - I LOVE Christmas and can't wait to decorate.  But I never start until after Thanksgiving.  I think stores go way overboard and start to early.  However, I am okay with craft stores starting to put stuff out now because some people take the months before to create things for their decorations.  That is the only exception.

@ Stephie - The GTG was a lot of fun.  I was the last person there about 6pm and we stayed until about 9 chatting.

  • I had a blast on Friday - it was lots of fun :)

I tend to decorate for Christmas the weekend before Thanksgiving, but that's because we leave town for TG and I love coming home and feeling like Christmas threw up in my house :)

I have been having lots of indigestion lately - only at work though, and it lasts all afternoon.  I eat lots of different things for lunch - Subway, the cafeteria, sandwiches from home, frozen meals... so I don't think it's a particular food.  It's just been the last couple of weeks.  It really makes working late miserable!

  • Friday's GTG was a lot of fun!!!!

We buy our tree the day after Thanksgiving so that we can try to get everything up before I have to go back to work.  Last year, we got it delivered and it was worth the $25 that I think we paid for the service.
