Well let me start from the beginning.
Audric was diagnosed with biliary atresia October 2010 and got a surgery called Kasai the same day he was diagnosed.
we were told that 25% will need liver transplant before age 2 (us), 25% as a child, 25% as an adult, and 25% will never need one.
Well we need one. His labs, development, and nutrition are good, but he developed portal hypertension and gets bleeding varices.
We have been to the hospital every month since June, so we were evaluated for transplant.
He will get officially listed on September 24th. They say it SHOULD happen in 90 days or less. We are going to get a cadaver either from baby, child, or adult (an adult can give to two children).
Texas only does living donor in emergency situation or if a child happenes to be on the list too long. Thank goodness the liver can be given and the donor's portion will grow back within a month.
So lots of options.
the surgeon at TCH has done over 1000 transplants and we are in 3 very active support groups, so lots of support, and the kids do so much better after transplant, and are strong.
He will hopefully only be on 1 or 2 meds after a year, and research is working on transplanted kids to be off all meds by the time they are teenagers.
so we research a lot, pray a lot, and keep positive (of course)
Thank you for the prayers and good thoughts

Houston has a really amazing medical community. Wishing only the best of the best results for you and your precious boy!
Ditto all of this. Prayers for you and your family.
You know you, K, and Audric are always in my thoughts and prayers. Please call or text me if you ever need anything!!! I can make sure you are taking care of at TCH, I can bring you anything from home, or if you just need someone to come and sit with your and/or Audric.
Have you seen this website or talked to anyone with this organization? http://web.me.com/kimknudsen/Cades_Cause/Home.html Cade was one of my favorite patients and I still keep in touch with him and his family. I was one of his primary nurses while he was in the PICU at TCH. He was about the same age as Audric at the time. One night around 6am, when I was about to end my shift, my phone rang. It was the transplant coordinator to tell me that Cade got a new liver. I ran in the room to give the phone to his mother. It was one of his sickest nights. He got the liver that day and I took care of him post-op.
His mother, Jennifer, is a great contact. Please contact them and tell them Cade's favorite nurse, Allyson told you to get in touch with them.
Lots of love and hugs!!! Again, please call me if you need anything!!!
