CO Nestie needing some moving help

Hey ladies!

A friend's DH just got a GREAT job offer in Baltimore, and needs some neighborhood recs. She has never been and won't really have the time to check it out before moving. They don't mind being in the 'burbs, they just want a safe place to live.

Close proximity to hospitals would be great because she is a nurse, and usually works graveyard shifts.

Thanks for any help you can give! I'm so excited for them, but sad about her having to leave me :(

Re: CO Nestie needing some moving help

  • Do they have children? Are schools a big priority? What kind of commute is he used to? Long (hour+)? Short (30ish minutes)?

Do you know where in Baltimore he is going to be working? There are tons of hospitals in this area, some really awesome ones at that. So she shouldn't have a problem being relatively close to a few options.
  • No children, commute now is about 45 min.

I have no idea where he will be working, but I think a safe neighborhood is more of a priority than commute at this time.

  • My cousin is a nurse at Mercy Hospital in the city and she lives in Timonium, right off of 83. It is a safe area and really convenient to a lot of things.

  • You could tell her to look intoTowson as an option, that's where I live.  It's a safe suburb close to I-83 so an easy commute to the downtown hospitals but there are also 2 community hospitals right in Towson with lots of job opportunities.  I work in the city and my door-to-door commute is about 35 minutes factoring in traffic, parking in a garage, and walking from the garage to my office.  There are lots of nice city neighborhoods too- Canton, Federal Hill, Locust Point, Mt. Washington (semi-city, semi-suburb, but technically in the city), and I'm sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

this is exactly what I was going to say. Towson, lutherville, cockeysville, even up to Hunt valley or Sparks. Are the looking to purchase or rent for a while? If they are looking to purhase I highly reccomend using the website franklymls.com. It's amazing and has access to a million different things. Including the local crime stats, all the previous listing info, schools, maps. I just love it.
  • I live in the city and really enjoy it, There are several safe neighborhoods that are fairly close to downtown and a number of hospitals.  Federal Hill, Otterbien, Riverside, and South Baltimore (Usually referred to as Fed Hill Area) are all fairly safe and are close to the Inner Harbor. Parking can be an issue especially on football game days. Mount Vernon, Fells Point, and Canton are also city options. There are some others as well, but I don't know much about them.

http://www.livebaltimore.com/ is a good resource for someone moving to the city.

Edit to add-- sorry for the repeats, I didn't read the thread before I posted.
