S/O Curfews

What was yours?

Re: S/O Curfews

  • I honestly can't remember. I recall thinking it was fair at the time. It definitely got more lax when we moved to FL and my dad was still in NY wrapping up things at work and the house.

  • In elementary school it was when the streetlights came on, unless it was winter, in which case I just had to be back within hollering distance when the streetlights came on (so basically on the block). Our block was the cool place to be, so I was fine with that.

I don't remember what it was in middle school.. probably 9ish? HS was 11, until I turned 18, at which point I didn't have one (I just had to tell my dad if I planned on being home by the time he woke up the next morning or not).

One funny thing was that pre-18, I had to give my dad 24h notice if I was doing something other than "gallavanting around the neighborhood." So in HS if a friend called on Monday at 8 and said "Hey, do you want to come to the mall after school tomorrow?" -- no dice. I blame this rule for my being an anal retentive planner. haha

  • It really would depend of the situation. Sometimes 11 sometimes later.
  • It depended on who's house I was at and the reason I was going out. For the most part at my mom's it was 11:30 & then Senior year it was midnight. I always had the earliest curfew. There were times that she let me come home later and times like Junior and Senior prom when I didn't have to come home. We always just kept communication very open. It was usually about an hour later at my dad's.

  • As long as they knew who I was with and where I was....I never really had one.
  • I really don't remember. 10-11 on weekends, I think. Since I often "stayed with a friend" it really didn't matter.

  • 11 in high school and 1 after that when I lived at home. I always couldve stayed out later, but when I lived with my parents I always tried to respect their wishes as an adult.

  • I didn't really have a set curfew.  It was more of a they knew where I was, who I was with and about what time I'd be home, that's it.
  • They always had to know where I was/who I was with AND my curfew was 9 or 10 on the weeknights and 11 or midnight on the weekends with some exceptions for special events.

Once I moved away to college, they tried to keep the midnight curfew when I came back on the weekends to visit. So all of my friends from college would be hanging out and I had to excuse myself to be home by my curfew? I didn't think so. So in protest, I didn't stay one night at my parents house (except for Christmas Eve) for the entire freshman school year. I just came down for plenty of day trips. When I moved back for the summer after freshman year, I didn't have a curfew anymore!

  • If they knew who I was with and WHERE we were, I could negotiate curfew. If they didn't, my dad followed the curfew on the back of d.l. I think it was 11 for 16 y.o and 1am for 17 y.o.

  • I think mine was 9 on the weeknights and 10 or 11 on the weekends, but I don't remember for sure.

  • In HS it was 11 until I turned 17, then the driving curfew was 1 and I wrote a persuasive essay to my mom that allowed me to stay out that late. When I was 18, I no longer had one.

Ha! I wrote my parents essays all the time to get stuff. The one I remember in particular was a five paragraph essay outlining the reasons why I should get blonde highlights.
