Hi, I am new!

Hi ladies,

My name is Kelly and I'm a member of TK. I'm originally from DC, but moved to London in July for work and to be with my fiance, who is in graduate school here. We're getting married next July in Baltimore, so I'm trying to get used to a new life over here while planning the wedding from abroad.

TK doesn't have an international board, so I thought I would come by this one. I hope that's okay!

Happy Friday!

Kelly

  • Hi and welcome! DH and I are Americans living in Brisbane. We have some newlyweds on our board who can lend a helpful ear during your planning process.

  • Welcome, there are lots of London Nesties.

I'm an American living in the Netherlands with my American husband and son.

As far as planning the wedding, just have fun.  If anything is stressful, then that part is not needed.  Just enjoy, and Congrats!  Sounds like you are off to an amazing start already with your new life Big Smile

  • Hi and welcome!  We're open to one and all, so feel free to stick around.  We have some newlyweds and some still planning, so you should feel at home.  I wish I had found this board before I was engaged, but I was to scared to venture from TK!

I'm a Canadian/American living with my American DH in London.  We moved here 2.5 years ago, about six months before we got married back in NYC.  There are a number of ladies in London and we have fairly frequent GTGs, so maybe we'll see you out at one of those.

  • Hi and welcome! I'm in London too... I originally came over from TK too when I was engaged to a Brit ... that didn't work out but I still like to consider myself an IN!

Where in London are you living? I'm near Clapham Junction and there are pretty much INs all over.

You should definitely come to one of our gtgs!

  • I must say, at first I didn't know what TK was and thought you said you were a member of The Klan.

    Anyway, welcome to London!

  • Thanks for all of your welcomes! I'm used to posting on TK in the mornings and not having anyone respond for a few hours until they all wake up, so this is great, lol.

FI and I were in Hammersmith, but we just moved 2 weeks ago to near London Bridge (Borough tube stop). We love the area - lots of cool restaurants and best of all, it's only a 5 minute walk to the Borough market :)

I will definitely look out for your Londond GTGs, it sounds fun!

I like this advice!  It's so true.  ;)

Welcome to the board!  I'm an American living in Spain with my Spanish husband.  I've been here 3 years now.  Yikes!

So you're getting married in the states, does that mean you're planning to move back or are you going to live in England?

Oops! Sorry, I'll try to avoid using The Knot lingo over here. I've just gotten so used to it, I don't even think about it, I guess. When I first started posting on the Knot, I saw a thread called "STD Help!" and was afraid to click on it... lol. (STD means Save the Date in knottie world...)

It's kind of up in the air. FI has 2 years left of school here (he's been here 2 already, and we did the long distance thing) and I'm on a 3 year work visa. We'll probably move back to the states in 2 or 2.5 years, but we're not sure where yet.

We're doing the wedding in the states because all of my family is there, and about half of his (the rest is in Peru or Croatia, so Baltimore is a pretty good halfway point). We also met in Baltimore as undergrads, so we thought it would be a meaningful place to get married, even though we haven't lived there in 5 years.

  • I love Borough!! Such a fun area!

There's a gtg on Oct 1 - lunch in Marylebone if you want to join in? I'm sure more details will be posted next week!

  • Welcome to the board!  Living in London must be such an awesome experience, there is so much to do there.  Enjoy planning your wedding- so much fun!

I'm American and my DH is German.  I've been living here in Germany for almost 10 years now, and we're definitely here for the long run.

Hope you enjoy this board, so many kind and supportive ladies!

  • Hi and Welcome! I live in London and Husband and I planned our wedding in Texas  from here. If you need any tips just let me know! :)
  • Hi and welcome! H and I are Americans living in Chennai, India.

We planned our wedding in Italy from the US, so I have a little experience with long distance wedding planning. I think PP gave some good advice. The most important advice that I have is that many of the tiny little details that people agonize over don't matter, anytime something like that came up, I just said "Do whatever you typically do with that." Our wedding was beautiful and perfect and none of those little decisions mattered in the end.

Ha! I would have thought the same thing! Can you imagine some brides may even use that in conversation? "I just got my STD's!", "This STD looks a bit funny" or "I gave my mother a STD, and I haven't heard from her since".  I should hang out on the Knot more often.

Anyway, glad to hear you're not a pillow case toting KKK member. You should come to the GTG on the 1st of October. Should be a good time for you to meet a bunch of other London and UK area nesties.

DH and I are Canadians that were transferred here for work a couple of years ago. Very much against our will, LOL.

  • Welcome!

I'm an American, married to a Brit living in London as well.  I was just married in May in Philadelphia and we are having an English reception in Oct.  So I here you with the planning.  I found this board through the knot as well.

I have to say though the biggest stressors for me with my wedding were my mom and MIL, I think I needed them both...

  • Thanks everyone!

I grew up in Montgomery County, MD. I went to college in Baltimore (where I met my FI). Then after graduation I got a job in downtown DC, so moved there. I was living right in Chinatown of DC until I moved here.

Planning from abroad has been interesting. We picked out the big stuff (church, reception venue, my dress!) before I moved. Now we're trying to pick out a band or DJ and a photographer, but it's so hard w/o being able to meet any of them in person to see their portfolios, or see if we click. I'm going to have to cram a lot of that stuff in when I'm back in DC in December for the holidays... I'm just hoping it's not too late. I know a lot of girls book all their vendors 10+ months in advance. Eek! I'm sure it'll work out in the end, though!
