It seems to be official. We have always had an LSU flag and an A&M flag and will continue. DH has been talking about this for weeks/months...
Anyone else excited? Welcome AGs!

I totally don't care! I give it a big "whatever... we're still having football games, right?"
; )
But seriously. We've switched conferences before, and I'm sure we'll eventually switch conferences again. I have bigger things to worry about. A&M athletics will still make plenty of money, so wheee.
I pretty much care not at all about the politics of it. I especially don't care to hear UT and Baylor whine anymore.

Me too! We had such a fun cotton bowl party this year when LSU and A&M faced off. I made gumbo and red beans and rice. He made fajitas and pecan pie. We had purple, gold, maroon and white cupcakes. We trash talked each other for weeks. We had what seemed like every neighbor and local buddy in our house. It was too much fun. And I can't wait for future face offs! I can see it will be too much fun. Geaux Tigers!
Vanderbilt is already the Baylor of the SEC, so you might beat them.
Why this is true! DH is excited for the same reason as you Melrr. Closer games.
Glad to be away from Tech. Worst fans ever.
UT - I am indifferent to. I am tired of t shirt fans. If you did not graduate from a school or ever step foot on the campus and refer to the football team as "we" it irks me.
And my beloved Miss State. No matter how good they *should* be, they just never are.
I'm excited to probably see more SEC games locally on TV now but it does sort of suck for the families of the student athletes. Now, none of the schools they play are very close for families to drive to the games.
This.
And on the topic of t-shirt fans, let's face it that everyone has them. Most likely, it's annoying to the actual school alumni, too. Since Texas was on the winning upstreak for a few years, we gained more of them. It happens to almost any and every school on the uptick. (Remember the USC bandwagon a few years ago? Or the Georgetown stuff all over in the early 90s?) In fact, I've noticed more Aggie merchandise in stores lately since they're doing well. And let's not be naive that there are plenty of people who root for A&M but have never stepped foot in B/CS.
Sorry, this is a nit for me. My obnoxious cousin and his wife rail against Texas t-shirt fans weekly on FB, yet root for TCU (from which neither of them graduated) weekly -- or used to when they were winning. Ironic, much?
now that i live in AL, i'm happy since i'll be able to see more games! but i have the concerns too about the competition....
Nothing is more annoying to me than someone who claims to be an Aggie when they didn't go to school there. I have been known to correct them & say they're an Aggie fan. I'm a bit of a meanie like that.
The undefeated Houston Cougars would be happy to take all the t-shirt fans~ I don't care whether you went to school there or not. The more fan support, the better!
So should I not put Finley in Aggie gear? I didn't realize it was offensive.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I don't mind having Aggie t-shirt fans, I just worked hard for my degree & feel that people who didn't put in that work should call themselves Aggies. If they went to school somewhere else, I don't understand why they don't claim that university. It trivializes both their degree because they don't claim it & the Aggie degree because they're not recognizing the hard work put in to earn it.
Totally excusable to me when a parent is an alum.
Love kids in Aggie gear no matter if their parents went anywhere for college. I love me some itty-bitty-Aggie-fans.
i called myself an aggie my whole life because my dad was so spirited! we grew up hanging out with all the other aggie basketball guys and their wives. we were definitely little aggies.
i would also slap the ever living, ever loving smirk off your face if you ever told my mother she's not an aggie, or that she was a t-shirt fan...lol. she lived and breathed A&M, worked there, and put my dad through college there, and supported him 100% financially-- pretty much sacrificing her own chance at any sort of college education for the better of him. it was a very different situation back then (his freshman year was actually the first year A&M allowed women to attend).
i welcome anyone wanting to support our school and/or athletic department-- especially the people who didn't have the chance to go to college, but put spouses/children through school at A&M.
now, if you are truly a t-shirt fan in the stereotypical sense, and you want to try and do some aggie-bashing, that's another story. same goes for fair-weather fans ; )
my photography blog
I understand not saying you ARE an "Aggie" or a "Longhorn" if you didnt go there, but what is wrong with being a fan of the school? Why not be happy that people still like your school even though they didnt/couldnt/whatever go there.
I made the choice to go to a small private college for a ton of different reasons. If I'm only allowed to be a fan if I went to school there, I'd have no "team".
I understand this sentiment, but I don't get what's wrong with people being fans of a school they didn't go to. DH is a UT football fan, he did not go there, he didn't have the opportunity but he would have liked to. He didn't really go to college so according to the anti-t-shirt-fan sentiment he isn't "allowed" to follow college sports? That's dumb.
I think people are not reading my posts clearly. I don't care if people are fans of any school. I don't care where/if you went to a certain school, route for the team all you want. Sports are fun, everyone is welcome to participate & route for who ever they want.
But to claim you are an Aggie/Longhorn/Cougar/etc implies that you went to school there & earned the designation. If you didn't go to school there, just say you're a fan.
Nope - she should only wear red/white ; )
Crazy Christmas Kids!
I always joke with Dylan if LSU played UST in basketball I would root for UST all.the.way. I have no team to root for regards to football. If they had a football team I would wear red, gold, and white proudly. I just hate when people ask why I'm an LSU fan. I always say I'm a Tiger by marriage and have no other team to root for.
I think it's fine for people to be fans and certainly kids are cute in any gear, period!
It's the Longhorn/Aggie/Baylor/Tech/etc fans who never went to school there that are arrogant and rude and talk crap about "us" kicking "your" a$$ in football. I don't like it when people wear A&M stuff and act like that either. Maybe I just don't like tackiness. Yes, that is probably it.
I just got stared down rather rudely by an Alabama alum at work. Dayum.
I don't really understand either why people get so mad about band wagon fans. When I see someone in a LSU shirt, we look at each other and say, "Geaux Tigers", not wonder if they went to school at LSU or not. We welcome anyone in.
I also don't understand why people say that A&M is going to have trouble in the SEC. Sure, for the majority of the last couple of years a SEC team has won the national championship, but that is less than half of the schools, and has only happened in the recent years. A&M can definitely hang with them all.
