The undefeated Houston Cougars would be happy to take all the t-shirt fans~ I don't care whether you went to school there or not.  The more fan support, the better!

So should I not put Finley in Aggie gear?  I didn't realize it was offensive.

Totally excusable to me when a parent is an alum.

Love kids in Aggie gear no matter if their parents went anywhere for college.  I love me some itty-bitty-Aggie-fans.

No - F is a Future Aggie.  Whole other category.  :-)

To me, it feels like the TU fan base grew by leaps and bounds when they won a national championship.  The people who were suddenly fans, that had never cared before, also can be the most obnoxious.  I'm speaking from personal experience, not a blanket statement.

I'm glad we're going to the SEC.  yes, we'll get our butts kicked for a while, but I think it will be a good thing in the long run.  If we use it to our advantage and go out and find the players that the SEC attracts, AND play they games the big SEC teams are playing it will be worth it.  Also, I've been an Astros fan for ages...we're always "rebuilding."  I can handle an Aggie team "rebuilding" for a while.

now, if you are truly a t-shirt fan in the stereotypical sense, and you want to try and do some aggie-bashing, that's another story.  same goes for fair-weather fans ; )

this statement really sums it up.  The people I call tu t-shirt fans are the ones who suddenly decided to be tu football fans after they won.  And lord have mercy, all of a sudden they could do nothing but trash A&M.  As usual, a few idiots give off an image for an entire group.

I think people are not reading my posts clearly.  I don't care if people are fans of any school.  I don't care where/if you went to a certain school, route for the team all you want.  Sports are fun, everyone is welcome to participate & route for who ever they want.

But to claim you are an Aggie/Longhorn/Cougar/etc implies that you went to school there & earned the designation.  If you didn't go to school there, just say you're a fan.

I did not go to LSU, but I'm still a "Tiger", not just a fan.  I grew up there, and we went as children as a family.  A lot of people don't get a chance to go to college or they go to different schools for different reasons...I picked my school for what was best for my major and went home every weekend for games.  I don't think that just being an alum make you part of that school.

I don't really understand either why people get so mad about band wagon fans. When I see someone in a LSU shirt, we look at each other and say, "Geaux Tigers", not wonder if they went to school at LSU or not.  We welcome anyone in.

I also don't understand why people say that A&M is going to have trouble in the SEC.  Sure, for the majority of the last couple of years a SEC team has won the national championship, but that is less than half of the schools, and has only happened in the recent years.  A&M can definitely hang with them all.

I think Louisiana and Texas are very different in this sense. Virtually everyone in the state of La is an LSU fan ---if you went to bpcc, tulane, tech, what have you or in my case North Texas.  I can't wait to take my dh to an LSU/Aggie game in Baton Rouge. And he thinks Kyle Field is fun....

Well, not Tulane, especially not if you were there when they played LSU. My dad is a Tulane grad and he doesn't even like to admit he got his MBA from LSU Smile

But really, this happens everywhere. In Alabama the majority of residents who are not affiliated with a school are Bama fans. I bet it's the same with any big state school.

My cousin is a bigger LSU fan than any of you are for your school. He was unfortunately unable to go to college because of some serious learning disabilities, but he can tell you what the weather was like and who scored the winning touchdown in a 1962 game. His knowledge of LSU baseball stats is even more impressive. Do not tell him he is not a Tiger.

Huh, I didn't think the "tshirt fan" discussion could get any more obnoxious than it did the last time we discussed it, but it did...

I was just thinking, "Didn't we have this same discussion a year or so ago?"

I guess if you hang around long enough, though, most of the discussions are retreads.  :)

I think it happens every season.

But t-shirt fan aside, and back to the subject of A&M in the SEC, LSU used to play A&M pretty frequently when I was in elementary school. So much so that we told aggie jokes as much as Texas fans do. Back then LSU almost always creamed them.

Hmm, lessee... I was there in-person for the Cotton Bowl in Jan to see it for myself:  LSU 41 -  Aggies 24

That same season they lost to Arkansas by 7 pts, but that wasn't as bad as the 2009 matchup where the razorbacks beat the aggies to the tune of 47-19, followed later by a loss to Georgia 44-20 in the bowl game.

Needless to say, I think the Aggies will definitely have their hands full and I wish them luck in representing our great State in the new conference.     I'll miss the Turkey Day rivalry talk w/ some of my family members who wear maroon, but I won't be crying a river over it.   I'll be more crushed if the OU Rivarly goes by the way-side (which could happen) rather than losing the annual Aggie game.

Good luck to the Aggies, you are gonna need it.
