Re: topic: who is your favorite candidate for 2012 POTUS?

  • A Rick Perry/Michelle Bachman ticket, because they would lose.

    image

  • None of them. I'd actually rather see another 4 years from the current administration than be forced to cast a vote for any of the current Repub candidates.

For what's important to me, they have fallen so far out of touch with reality. The debates have left me just sick.

  • lol... you could have said Obama but that was funnier.  i am not for BO and would like to see a Romney/Huntsman ticket but the RNC would never approve that.  Huntsman is my guy but apparently people want arrogance over quiet confidence so he is by far a huge underdog for the nominee.

ETA - I didn't answer the "why" for my own question.

Excellent Foreign Policy experience (former ambassador to China); Speaks chinese - since they own us we should speak their language (I kid... I kid... sort of).

Excellent jobs creation record in Utah as governor

Smart immigration solutions that include border security and policy reform

Supports smaller government, free market economy

Supports civil unions for same-sex marriages

Doesn't have a big abortion agenda (but he is pro-life)

  • none of them.  But I will be voting for anyone to get the current administration out.
  • Ron Paul - he ascribes to my Libertarian beliefs.  I have an issue with him (abortion - but he leaves it up to the states to decide), but overall, he is the best candidate.

  • I'm not happy with any of the options right now but I'll vote for whoever gets the nomination because I want the current administration out.

  • Michellebelle, from what little I know of Huntsman, he'd probably be my choice were I forced to choose from the Republican candidates. Of course, he's sane so he has no chance of getting the nod. But I just don't know enough about him (although I see his website is now finally useful instead of being an annoying series of videos, so maybe I can read.)

I really don't care for any of the likely choices at the moment though.

  • I'm still undecided. I have some more research to do.  I've only been able to catch one of the debates--the others, I've just seen bits and pieces of, on the news sites.

BUT, I think it is crazy that people would vote for "whoever would get Obama out of office."  Rick Perry??  Really? Maybe Obama has made some questionable to bad decisions, but Perry is absolutely unqualified to be president, not to mention his lack of intelligence, dishonesty, crony kickbacks, and the slime factor. Even if Obama wasn't really qualified to be president last year either, and he has his own cronies, at least he is intelligent and a decent person. Not to mention that Obama hasn't really been given the chance to be successful because of Congress, even when he tries to meet them in the middle.

Anyway, I haven't studied up on many of the candidates, aside from the current front-runners, who are all just awful except for Ron Paul. He is the one I align with most at this point. For the most part, he's anti-establishment, his votes haven't been bought, and I agree with lots of his policies; but he's a little too inflexible, and I think it would be the same thing as now with Obama, in that Congress would never allow many of his ideas to be put into place. And vice-versa.

I know next to nothing about Huntsman, Gingrich, Cain, Santorum, Johnston, and all of the ones who haven't debated yet.  Still doing my homework.

I will be sick to my stomach if I have to choose between obama and Perry.  But Obama's appointments on the NLRB and the recent actions they have taken are enfuriating and enough to push me to vote for Perry.

Now Perry vs. Hilary Clinton... I'd have difficulty there.

I really think Perry is proving himself unfit and it will be Romney... the battle IMO is for VP.

I wish there wasn't so much bigotry in this country that we'd refuse a Romney/Huntsman nod just because they are both Mormon.

The reason I feel this way is because I honestly think *anyone* would do a better job running our country than BO. I might not like the person I vote for (just like in 2008) but it'll be voting for the lesser of 2 evils.

    I consider myself a moderate....I guess....but I have never voted conservative.

I lean left, but also independent in some cases similar to PAGAS

I am terrified of what Ron Paul would do/say in a true military conflict with another nation.  On paper he looks great, but after watching the debates, I'm skeered.

  • a lot of people i like and respect seem to just really be in puffy heart love with ron paul.  watching him on the daily show the other night, i totally got the creep vibe from him.  he is VERY popular, but i can't tell if that's just because i'm in texas and that's what i hear.

i want to like romney, but he has gone so back and forth on some issues that are important to me (and my interpretation is that it's been to please whoever he's looking to please at that moment).  like the whole gay marriage/civil unions business and DADT.  i mean, make up your mind.  don't be hailing civil unions one year, then trying to keep a state from legalizing gay marriage the next, and saying you'd re-institute DADT if you could.   i guess out of all the options, i would rather sit next to him on a bus than most of the others.  i hate for that to me my litmus test... but for me, it's the ONE human right that our country is being an idiot about.

I don't think that is inconsistent, actually.  He seems to be pro-civil union, anti-gay marriage, with a distinction between the two.  It's not equal, but more than nothing (I know that is not acceptable for all - I'm just explaining how R is not necessarily going back and forth).  By being ok with DADT he is similarly saying, "Look - do whatever you want in the privacy of your own bedroom, and I don't think you should be denied some of society's benefits because of your sexual orientation, but I don't believe you should be able to have full and complete equal rights as heterosexual couples."

Yeah, I can't get on board with that it's "separate but equal" all over again.

I don't have a favorite, I'm currently ignoring the whole thing.

    I understand - it's just not flip-flopping.

The fact is BO has had an opportunity to make huge strides by way of gay rights but hasn't bothered.  That was one of the only things I thought he had going for him. :-)

  • If someone held a gun to my head and said I had to vote Republican or die, I'd think about it for a minute, and then, I'd probably pick Huntsman because he seems to have a brain and believes in science. Romney is too much of a flip flopper and pandering to the base when he doesn't really believe any of the base's crap. I agree with whoever said Ron Paul is too inflexible (and I don't agree with his abortion position), so he's out for me even though I think he has sone good ideas. If I were just being subversive, voting in the primary, and picking a losing team to assure an Obama victory, I'd go Perry/Bachman.

And you should absolutely do this because several Republicans on this board voted in the Democratic primary for a similar reason.

i was reading romney's specific history where the gay issue was concerned, and there has been some back and forthing on his part.  that's what i was referring to.  like, he does something noteworthy-good, then blammo, turns around and does something noteworthy-bad.

This but insert Ron Paul. At least he is a true Libertarian, not a phony like these Tea Partiers who are just extreme conservatives. You're welcome to your beliefs, but call a spade a spade. You can't say "I'm Libertarian and want limited government but want to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act."

I'd love to see Perry/Bachman. Think of the late night comedian fodder!
