And from a slightly different point of view, my husband's name is Ray. Just Ray. Not Raymond. We have a long, (for some reason) tough to say last name. His parents went simple, naming him after his grandfather, Raymond. He gets called Raymond all the time. People assume Ray is the NN and that Raymond must be his full name. So you can name your kids the nicknames if you want, but people will still assume their real name is the long version.
My grandfather's name was W.J. That was the name on his birth certificate, even though he was supposed to be named after his dad, William Jennings. They just put the initials on there, and his entire life, he was called W.J. (pronounced, of course, "Dubjay."

  • my inlaws have a best friend and his name is Dubby for W... I don't even know what his real name is.. ha!

I always liked some unusual male names... Julien but DH nixed it.

if we had another boy he would be

James Alexander (after my relative that was the first across to Ellis Island) or James "my maiden name" to keep it going

James would also be after my great uncle who was an amazing man.  Witty, brilliant and loving.

Our family name favorites are: Cooper, Carter, Cason, Lars and Hugh and Elliot.

Other favorites: Colton, Anders, Cohen and Andrew.

My family tree is full of Olafs, Sorens, Bjorns, Gunnars, Knutes, Leifs, and Thors.  Gotta love Scandinavian family trees.

These two together are great Wink

Our other boy name was Barrett.  The only family name I like for either side is Blaine.

This is Max. His first name is just Max. A lot of people call him Maximus, Maximo or Maximilian. I do not care and he seems to answer to all of the above I just HATE it when someone calls him Maxi!!

If I somehow fit in to the tubal ligation didn't work category, I'm sure it would be a massive fight over a boy's name. My DH would probably pick another comic book character to name him after and I would go insane. I personally like Luke but we have a cousin that named her son that.

And that can be even worse!  My poor brother was called James by his teachers his whole life.  His name is Jimmy.  Not James, not Jim.  Jimmy.  I call him Jim and most of his friends call him Jackson since he was in the military for about 14 yrs but academic people automatically formulate a negative opinion when he clarifies his name is, in fact, Jimmy.

On the flip side sometimes Reagan calls herself Reagan-gail..............

    That is so cute!

V, my FIL's middle name is Ray. Just Ray. He is also an rrr, but they didn't make my rrr a junior.

  • DH is a "IV" so we have that to contend with.

Because of that, the only other boy name we've come up with is Charlie.  Well, Charles but we'd call him Charlie. DH is big on giving kids the option to use the full or nickname.
