Re: Free For All Friday

  • RE: A&M/Texas game.  I'm sad to see it go, but I'm perfectly fine with it being gone if it means we get to join the SEC.  If it gets brought back in the future, great, if not, we will have plenty of other fun opponents.  Thanksgiving is really going to be weird though.

RE: Bank charge fees.  I almost never use my debit card except for cash.  If my bank ever starts charging, I will probably have it switched to an ATM only card unless they won't charge me the monthly fee unless I actually use it.  If you aren't a "premium" customer you should talk to your bank. When DH and I went to open our joint accounts they upgraded us just b/c I had been a customer for so many years and we would have at least 2 direct deposits a month.  Wasn't a big deal then, but if it takes away fees....

Now, I need y'all's help!!!  DH and I are going to the Stars/Blackhawks game on opening night (next Friday).  He is a BH fan and I am a Stars.  We always wear our opposing jerseys.  Well, last year I made a poster that said "Sleeping on the Sofa" with an arrow pointing to him.  We made it on the jumbo tron, during kiss cam for almost the whole time!  I want to make another sign for this game, but I can't think of a good phrase to put on the poster board.  Any suggestions?

I'm here... but lazy today.  I have my mid-year performance review today with my manager, and I didn't know how to prepare, so I just didn't.  I don't have any complaints, and I feel like I've done a good job (met all but 1 of my goals as they were set for me), so hopefully she thinks the same.  It's so hard to believe I've been here for 6.5 months!  I'm amazed at the difference having a life outside work makes for my sanity, and also a little disappointed in myself that I haven't accomplished more in that newfound time.

Anybody got weekend plans?  We're going to my hometown, because my parents' business is hosting a gun show.  This is the 29th show in 15 years, and DH has never been to one (even though we've been together for 10 years).  So, we're fixing that :)

Can you tell me what a gun show is? Is it a kind of show & tell where people have cool, unique pieces? Or is more like new items, shooring competitions, etc?

I've never been to one - I've never even shot a gun, but I'm super intrigued.

We're going to the Texas State Fair!!! DH & I thought it would be a fun way to learn a bit more about our new home state. Unless it's really hot, then we'll try for another weekend Stick out tongue

A gun show is a place where exhibitors (ie, people who own lots of guns, or maybe have a gun store, like my parents) all go to one place to sell them.  It's in a convention center, and there are rows of tables set up around the room, and people come in and buy guns from them.  There are also lots of other things, like knives, collectible coins, and military memorabilia that also make an appearance.

The funny thing is, it's held in the same building where I had my wedding reception.

Your parents own a gun store?  That's really cool.   Where is it?

  • Buffalo, TX... It's called Buffalo Sporting Goods.  They've had it for 33 or so years, I believe - my dad was about 19 or 20 when he bought it from my ex-uncle.  He also owns a gun range outside of Buffalo.

All I can think about reading this gun talk is "Do you have your tickets to the gun show???" **pull up sleeves, flex arms**

Michelle - Maybe an "I'm with stupid!" sign with an arrow? or a sign that says "At least he/she isn't a _______'s fan!" if there is some well-known rival team besides the two playing?

  • I am giddy right now... my manager told me that our boss approved an additional week of vacation for the year - which means I have 19 personal days left.  I just looked at a calendar, and I think I'm going to take off the full week of Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and then one day per week for the rest of the weeks of the year after October 15 passes.  I'll also get to work from home one day a week during those weeks, so that means I'll only be in the office 3 days a week after my deadline.  I'm having a little trouble focusing on my work because of this realization!

  • I know I'm behind on this thread since we just got home... but we came home to a piece of mail from CitiBank saying that they're about to start charging us $15 a MONTH for our checking account unless we maintain a certain balance, which we don't, because we move our money into savings. And starting in December, we'll no longer earn reward points for debit card purchases.

Sooooo, on the hunt for a new bank, we are.

  • I know this is so late, but I really wish they would make stove light/fan knob low enough to where somebody who isnt 5'2 can reach. I'm 4'11, and I have to strreetttccchhh to turn them, or get a freakin step stool. It would be very helpful, and less irritating if they made it lower. I feel like my right arm is getting a work out just about everyday! LOL! Thats all.
