I'm sad for a dumb reason

Re: I'm sad for a dumb reason

  • I don't think you're dumb at all.

However, I agree with all the pps who have said they wait until post-birth.  That's my M.O. (barring a shower).  I don't know, guess it depends on the family, but I have several friends who feel it's "bad luck" to have gifts/baby stuff around pre-birth.  Typically, Jewish and Catholic types, if that makes a difference.

While I don't necessarily think a gift is "bad luck", having, unfortunately, witnessed so truly tragic birth stories (which I will spare you), I can understand not necessarily wanting to have lots of stuff around the house post -tragedy (not that NOT having "stuff" makes it any easier, but it's just one more thing to physically remind you... at least that's what my SIL said after experiencing a very sad loss).

Anyway, bottomline, I'm sure things will look up and you, H, and your beautiful son will be very warmly welcomed next month!!

    Where did you register?

Amazon and Target. And thanks for saying I have friends :) I know I do, but the vast majority of them live very far away.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of the time when you live overseas it's 'out of sight, out of mind'

I think pre-baby gifts often come when you have showers, or when you see people a lot who want to give something. But when you are far away, people don't make the effort to mail stuff until the baby is born.

That's how it was for me, and I can TOTALLY understand how you are bummed.

But you know what, go out and buy something yourself for the baby and cheer yourself up!! Your bub will be here soon, and I'm sure the special people in your life will send something :)

That's definitely true, and would make perfect sense except I don't live overseas anymore. I'm about 45 min away from my hometown. :-/
