If you breastfed - what did you wear at the hospital?

Is this a really dumb question? Besides a nursing bra, what did you wear at the hospital? I can't believe I am thinking about this........ lol

Re: If you breastfed - what did you wear at the hospital?

  • I wore a nursing nightgown. I got one from motherhood.
  • I wore shirts (long sleeve T's) and yoga pants.........I was very comfy after all my c-sections. No issue nursing in the t-shirt and nursing bra. You don't "need" any real nursing outfits.

  • I wore a soft cup bra where i could pull one cup up at a time. (I hated my nursing bra!) and loose tee shirts (maternity) so I could pull up one side and one cup and nurse and then swap. I didn't really show anything off either since the shirts were big. HTH- G

  • I wore a nursing tank top and yoga pants or pj bottoms.
  • Nursing tanks, a hoodie and yoga pants.

  • both times, my mom gave me a nursing nightgown and robe for the hospital.  i didn't wear it the first time, i stayed in the hospital gown, they had special ones for breastfeeding.  i did wear it the second time, probably on night 2 (I had 2 c/sections)
  • Oh I only wore my own nightgown and robe during the day. At night when everyone left I changed back into the hospital gown.
  • nursing tank, hoodie and really, really loose lounging pants...

just a suggestion...you want your pants to be comfy and not have a ton of lycra just in case you have a c...while the lycra does push things in and make them look nice...it makes for a very uncomfortable ride home...

  • First time around, a hospital gown.  2nd time around, nursing tanks and comfy pants.
  • nursing tank, tshirt cardigan/zip up and yoga pants

  • I wore a nursing gown but found it kind of annoying like the slits weren't big enough or something.  I wound up just wearing the nursing tanks which are the best!!

  • Nursing tanks & the hospital gown, and then nursing tanks & tshirt/pj pants/sweatpants, and my own fleece zip up house coat.

eta- I still was the size of approx 5 months pg right after delivery, so make sure your clothes are accommodating! And also this is silly, but when I bought my nursing tanks, I practiced unhooking/hooking them with one hand to make sure I had the hang of them before having the baby. Those suckers can be tricky!

  • I wore the nightgown the whole time and no nursing bra although i did wear a nursing tank.  I brought other clothes but honestly I was so bloody and gross that I didn't want to put my own clothes on.

This. And thanks someone for writing this, i was beginning to feel like a "schlub" (after reading everyone's responses) since i couldn't bring myself to put my own clothes (carefully picked out in advance to look as good as possible post-labor) on either time

  • I brought nursing tanks and yoga pants, but I was in there for such a short amount of time and the visitors I would have dressed for never came so I just wore my night time nursing bra and the hospital gown.

  • Both times I wore the hospital gowns.  Got two from the nurses so that I could wear one as a robe.  I bled a lot and was glad that I could change my "gown" whenever I wanted.  For Billy I had to get completely topless to figure out the whole nursing thing anyway.  I did wear sleep nursing bras.  They are great because not too $$ and you don't need to know what size you will be.

  • I brought a few nursing tanks and some lounge pants. I loved having the nursing tank because it covers your gross post partum flabby belly that is hanging out while you are nursing so you feel a little more covered up.

I'm a mother baby nurse so I see people wear all sorts of things. The first day you are going to bleed a lot so you'll probably want to wear the gown. Once you shower for the first time is when most people change into whatever clothes they have. Personally I wanted to put a bra on asap. I asked someone to help me get it over my iv and stuff and put on a sleep bra. I just felt more comfortable that way. The night of my c/s I put on my own nightgown too. Most people just stay in the gown, but I just wanted my own clothes. I would pick dark colors like black or blue in case you do leak through. I hated any of the nursing night gowns with the slits. They always stretched out and then you feel like you are hanging out. The ones where you just pull down or to the side were much better. I was most comfortable in a tank and pants. I also brought a sweat shirt to wear over them if I got chilly.  I suggest the target tanks for the beginning until you see how nursing is going before you invest in anything more expensive.

  • I wore a nursing tank with a zip up hoody.

ETA: I started wearing this after I took my first shower. I had a c-section and had to wait 36 hours or so, so until then I had on my hospital gown. I did not bleed a lot though.

  • You look amazing!! How exciting your almost there! I wore yoga pants and tank tops and a nursing bra. it was the most comfortable for me. I had some nursing tanks but I didn't feel like they gave me enough support. I found some great regular pj that looked like yoga pants and tank top at Macy's, alfani was the brand. I just slipped off the top and used my nursing bra. I tried the gown but I it was really chilly in the room. Nice warm socks also came in handy. Bring a couple pairs just in case, I was there 5 days after a c section and had to ask h to grab me more clothes from home.

  • I bought and brought a nightgown of my own...but in the end kept on the hospital gown (things get pretty, um, well, "messy" and I didn't want to mess my own nightgown - I saved it for home).

  • I wore Nursing tanks and PJ pants. It's the easiest and most comfy. Plus I felt presentable with all the people coming in and out!!!

  • I don't know if it's cause I had a c-section or what, but the day after my baby was born, I just wore the hospital gown. The next day I wore a nursing night gown my sister lent me (I think it was from Motherhood), and I wore a sundress home.  This time of year, I think a nursing tank and zip-up sweatshirt would be good to wear home.  I didn't even get any nursing bras until I was home.
