tips on decongesting baby

I have no clue if 'decongesting' is even a word...

Wyatt is sick today and can only breath out of his mouth. I've tried the suction but he won't let me anywhere near him with it, then I tried steam and it worked a little bit but not enough to clear him up, and then I put vicks on the soles of his feet, and so far I don't think it has helped. Any advice?

btw. even though he was sick last night, he slept better last night than most, so mission CIO seems to be working thus far :)

  • Maggie is always sick in some way. Congestion has been a battle we haven't tackled 100% yet. One thing we do that seems to help is give her a vapor bath (Johnson and Johnsons Vapor Bath soap stuff). That stuff smells so strong, even in tiny doses, but it does help her a little. GL I hope he feels better soon.

  • thanks! I think I actually have a small bottle of that hidden somewhere, I'll try it :)

Luckily for me, he's actually not too cranky or sad, just stuffed up. I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't get worse

  • To try and clean his nose out on tirck I have learned is to swaddle him.  We have been on nasal sprays and inhalers a few times and that is the only way I can do it.  He kicks and screams, but he can't get his arms out!  I gently hold his face to one side and suction it out.  Do you have a nose frida?  It looks werid, but it works wonders.  It does so much better than the aspirator they gave us at the hospital.

  • I've heard of a nose frida but I've never seen one around here. I'll try swaddling him and using the one I have before buying one, but thanks so much for the tip! He's breathing better now, but I'm sure tonight it will be just as bad

  • We also have vicks vapor plug in for kids. I put it in her room at night when she is really bad. Stinks up her room, but it helps.

  • Saline nose spray and a nose sucker always works great, along with running a humidifier at night and using the little Vicks Vapo inserts.

  • vapor rub on the chest, and if you have a humidifier use it.

You can also steam him, if you put a pan on the stove, boil the water. Put in Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavender Essential Oils. Then sit at the table and hold him on your lap, grab a big towel and throw it over you and him, he'll breath it in and it will help.
