Re: Poll: Nest Normal
-We have credit card debt (yeah, we are paying it off but we have it)
-We have two car payments on cars we bought brand new and financed
-We pretty much ALWAYS have dishes in our sink
-We have an ottoman at the foot of our bed and 95% of the time it is piled up with clean clothes that need to be folded and put away.
-We have 4 cats and I do not vacuum every day, or every other day.
I think our housekeeping would make most of the national board nesties shudder. DH and I split the housework, but we both tend more to the "F" it, we'll do it later category. Our house certainly feels lived in, lol. The last time I made the bed, DH asked me if we were having company. Oh well.
I could go on and on....
As far as things with the kids:
They watch tv
Are formula fed
Go to daycare
If I have a day off and daycare is open, yup they go!
They are constantly picking up crumbs, etc from the floor
I never used hand sanitizer
I don't feed them organic anything
Other items:
Dog hair is everywhere and on everything
I don't dust
I definitely don't wash sheets weekly (and our dog sleeps with us!)
Laundry gets done, but not always put away
Toys and junk is everywhere, sorry I have 3 kids!
Dining room table is always covered with papers (I hate this but just don't have time or energy to constantly battle it)
We have nothing but a couple picture frames on our walls
Vacation? What's that?? Haven't been on one since honeymoon!
Credit card debt... yup got that now!
Some things I do do:
No dirty dishes are ever left in the sink, stove, etc.
No empty cups or trash, etc around the house
Bed is made every day as soon as DH gets up
Cut the Crap - Weight loss journey of a Few Fat Chicks
We have credit card debt that we're slowly paying off, a car loan & the rest of my student loan.
Our savings & retirement are nowhere where the nest says it should be.
We still rent (even with one- and soon to be two- kids) & most likely won't be buying a house for at least another year.
There are dirty dinner dishes in our sink overnight several times a week that don't get touched until the morning.
Our dryer is generally full of clean & dry clothes that we both avoid folding for days.
Our bed never gets made in the morning on weekdays.
While our house is clean, I don't change our sheets or towels as often as the nest would want me to.
I work full time by choice & Mads goes to daycare.
Mads watches a half hour tv show in the morning while we get ready for work, and often another half hour in the afternoon/evening while I get dinner ready or clean up the house/kitchen from the night before.
Our decor is cozy but definitely lacking by nest standards. (Confession: We moved in July & have yet to hang up anything on the walls of our living room, kitchen, or bedroom.... really slacking there. Mads room & the bathrooms are the only truly "put together" rooms at this point)
I'm sure there are many others. Like many other girls have said, time is precious in our house & I'd much rather spend it with DH & Mads than worrying about some of these little things!
It's funny that "I work full time by choice" and "I stay home by choice" both made the list. It just goes to show how impossible some of the "standards" are!
My house is not clean. I hate vacuuming, so it only happens when DH does it. Towels and sheets? umm... we try to do it every 2 weeks. Doesn't always happen. And laundry? We have probably 7 loads worth. It is all in a pile, on the floor next to my bed. And I've been fishing things like jeans out of the pile for days since I have no clean ones left in the closet. Jeans don't really get dirty anyway... right? No kiddos, so I can't contribute with all the parenting faux pas I'd surely be making!
Apparently, I should avoid the D&R board.
*We don't typically do dishes until we run out of something (e.g., clean plates or forks).
*Sheets get washed every other week when the cleaning lady comes and I didn't realize until now that was a bad thing.
*The nursery is the only room in the house that is decorated. Outside of the nursery, we have 1 thing hanging on the walls - a wedding photo that I got framed this year. The walls in our main area are white because we can't decide on a color. The walls upstairs are all lime green because why paint them when I haven't even painted the area that I use.
*We use Roundup and other chemicals in our yard (and our neighbors - the source of the weeds pulling down our fence). (Big no no on Gardening & Landscaping). The weeds are still winning by the way.
*We have killed snakes in our yard. I got reamed out on G&L about how we are supposed to live in peace with them. Try saying that when you've been working in a flower bed for an hour and the "garden hose" starts to move and turns out to be a 6 ft. snake. So I never even mentioned our recent decimation of the chipmunk population that has made a home under our front porch. We also spray for mosquitos.
*We don't have a budget. DH and I don't discuss purchases with each other - we find out about them when the UPS man delivers them or we ask for help bringing them in from the car.
I agree with Jaay on the porn thing too. It's a no-no in my marriage.
I am a clean freak... It's the OCD thing. I deep clean the house every weekend pretty much. And the sheets are washed at least once a week. We have 2 dogs that sleep in the bed, and they shed.
I do like DIY and remodeling, but we don't have the money for more projects right now.
I got an epi, FF Landon, don't use cloth diapers.
Don't do organic stuff.
Have more SL debt than my house is worth and 3 maxed out CCs. It's lide right now with the economy and my salary being cut more and more every year.
I work 3 jobs and have a baby... what free time?
We don't have money for vacations... rather pay off debts instead.
