My 4-month old was just diagnosed with a soy allergy. There is NO completely soy-free baby formula available in the United States. Should I raise hell? He doesn't care for salad, either. He's not a rabbit, you know.

But seriously, Babydubs was finally diagnosed with a soy allergy & reflux last week. After 4 months, we've finally gotten him all straightened out, he poops normally and our spit-up issue is almost non-existent after one week.
Also, I'd like to punch our pedi in the face. She swore up and down that his issues were definitely NOT an allergy, said it was probably something intestinal, and sent us to the gastroenterologist. We're on the hunt for a new pedi.
Re: Bazillionth Post & Question.
LOL at the underlined.

I'm so glad they figured out what was going on with his allergies & reflux. What is the solution if you don't mind me asking? Do you just not eat anything with soy in it with the BF-ing or how does it end up working out? I'm just curious.
Good idea to get another pediatrician. It looks like she missed the mark on this one. At least now your little dude can eat in peace & not suffer. Happy baby = happy mama of course.
@Betty, luckily for me, he's formula-fed, so at least I don't have to change up my entire diet to fix him. He's been on Nutramigen (which is not the same as the one Violet posted, but it's a step below and widely available on shelves.) It's expensive, but luckily Enfamil sends out fuucktons of coupons, so I can get it pretty cheap sometimes. It contains soy oil within the mix of vegetable oils, but most people with the allergy don't have a reaction to the oil. We've also started him on rice cereal to help with the reflux... Gerber is full of soy and other crap, the Earth's Best is organic, but has tocopherols (Vitamin E) which also contain soy. Beech Nut is what the gastroenterologist recommended, and he's been absolutely perfect.
@Violet, he seems to be doing well with the regular Nutramigen, but if this shiit flares up again, we may be swapping to the AA, although I'm willing to try and pay just about anything to get the little guy feeling good. It's been a rough 4 months, that's for sure.
I'm glad he's starting to feel better, and I totally understand. We had a really rough time battling similar things with E. Hang in there mama.
I'm so glad you guys finally have a solution! Will you be reporting the pedi to the office manager or anything?
I hate it when Drs or nurse practitioners fvck this shiit up. Fine(ish) if you want to use me as your guinea pig, completely NOT OK if you have no idea what you're doing and want to "practice" on LOs who can't even tell you what's wrong.
What a relief that you figured it all out. Poor babydubs.
You really should start him on salads as soon as possible, so that he will be able to eat them in public by the time he gets a job.
