Wait guys, I had a baby too!

Luke was born Monday at 5:29pm. We are chilling at home right now. so how many babies does that make since October 1st??

also I could use some moral support with breastfeeding if anyone is volunteering!

Re: Wait guys, I had a baby too!

  • yay!  i am so excited for you.  breastfeeding is miserable until one magical day it isn't and you love it.  you can do it!  rest when you can, stay hydrated, and try to relax.  it is seriously amazing how much water you will drink without having to pee the first few days.

i am witholding all future advice until i get a pic of this kid ;)

he has a full head of strawberry blond hair... I didn't see that coming.

  • Hoe-lee-sh!t! Was there a drop in barometric pressure or something this week?! Wow!

Congrats on your baby boy and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

  • Yay more babies. No really you all cycled together. Everytime you breastfeed it is practice. There is a learning curve. What kind of problems? Latching or awkwardness?
  • Oh wow! Congratulations! Hope you're feeling well.

I'll totally volunteer to give some moral support for bf'ing! It's awesome that you're doing it.

It is so so so hard in the beginning. It's painful. You're feeding for like 10-12 hours a day. You don't know if you're doing it right or if the baby's getting enough food or if they're gaining weight or how the hell you're going to do it even until next week let alone months from now!

Just hang in there. Take it one day at a time. If you're having a particularly hard time, take it one feeding at a time. I always told myself in the beginning that I would do for today and we'll see how tomorrow goes when we get there. It's less overwhelming that way.

Take care of your nipples and they'll take care of your kid. Gently squeeze a little  milk onto your nip after you feed and rub it in. Let them air dry. Lanolin should be your bff.

Good luck and congrats again! You can post here if you have any questions or the bf'ing board.

  • Congratulations!  Yes we need pictures!

What specifically is troubling you about BFing?  BFing is so hard in the beginning - the pain and soreness, the constant feedings, your hormones etc.  Use all the resources the hospital offers - support groups, LC's etc.  It does get better - I know that doesn't help you now but it does.

Lansinoh cream worked wonders for sore, cracked nips.  Hang in there and congrats!

  • Congrats on baby!!!  I am with you on the breast feeding. I knew it was going to be hard, but I don't think I was quite prepared for the mental exhaustion that comes with it.  Keep at it Momma!!

  • Congrats Kimbatron!

As for BFing, I agree with what all the ladies said.  I had latching issues bigtime in the beginning, and the hospital gave me a nipple shield to use- it was my saving grace.  I also have a few friends who sing the praises of the Breastfeeding Resource Center in Abington- I think it's across from the hospital.  Not sure exactly where you are but it may be worth looking into.  I don't think you have to have delivered at Abington to use their services there.

  • Congratulations! I love the name Luke. I'll reiterate rumored praises for the breastfeeding group in Abington and the comment that you should take it one feeding at a time and it will get easier (and faster). Some day very soon you will not even feel the burning and aching and soreness that are your (o)(o)s right now. Until then, snuggle up to the lanolin cream and try out different bf positions and techniques to see whats most comfortable for you....have you tried the side laying one yet? That one is usually really good for the first couple weeks when you are exhausted and still sore and achy in other places.

  • Yay!  Congrats! It is sort of unbelievable all the babies.

So glad everything went well.  Looking forward to pictures!

  • Congrats!!

Breastfeeding is very difficult in the beginning and also agree to use as many resources as possible. I went to the breastfeeding center in Glenside and they were fabulous. I also agree with Jamie, the nipple shield was a lifesaver for me.

  • I'm a lurker until I move in a few weeks, but wanted to share what helped me get through the first weeks of breastfeeding: APNO, or all-purpose-nipple-ointment. That stuff was amazing!!!! I don't know if I would've made it through those first few weeks otherwise. Unfortunately, I don't think you can get APNO without a prescription, but if you see an LC ask about it!

Good luck, and just know that it DOES get easier and better, it just takes a little time. Each week will be so much better than the last, and then before you know it you won't mind BF-ing at all. Get professional support if you need it, and don't be afraid to ask your doctor to see you if you suspect any issues with infection, etc.

    Congrats on your baby!!
