Anyone want to talk wedding ideas?

Don't worry - not about dresses. I'm trying to come up with some ideas for centerpieces. I'd like to figure out what I want to do now since I can probably buy some stuff discounted after the seasonal stuff ends this month, FI is going to make wine for everyone as the favor, so we were thinking along the lines of also having an empty wine bottle as a vase for fall colored flowers (whatever is in season at our local farmers market). I also saw this idea on a website:

image

Where the wine bottles could also be used as table numbers. My friend also had a cute idea where he put a picture frame with a picture of him and his FI doing different fun things while they were holding up a card that had a number on it.

I'd like to make use of the gords/small pumpkins that are in season since our date is so close to Halloween. Would something like this work with a wine bottle as a vase? I also like the small candles around the centerpiece as well. Obviously the flowers would be more appropriate for a taller/wine bottle vase.

The table linens will be white. I welcome any of your ideas too since I'm not the most creative person.

  • Round tables or rectangular tables?

ftr we did decorated hurricanes with tall blue pillar candles, and small cobalt blue cups with tealights at each setting, etched with our initials and the date.

  • There will be a collection of round and rectangular tables - so I figured one centerpiece on the round and perhaps two at each end on the rectangular tables. I like the use of the blue cups - I think we are going to try for blue wine bottles as the vase on the centerpiece if we go with that idea.
  • If you're doing wine bottles as the centerpiece and little glasses, I'd consider putting a couple stems in the glasses, depending on the flower.  Like if you're doing gerbera daisies, a single daisy in each cup would be really cute.

  • I like both the wine bottle table marker idea and the centerpiece idea.  I love the fall theme!

  • Honestly, I would skip the flowers. You don't have the budget for them. Go with the wine bottle favors, gourds and candles. That's enough.

  • Actually, last night I set up my kitchen table with a fall colored placemat in the middle of the table with a pumpkin spice candle and gourds around the candle.  It looks very warm and inviting! Big Smile

Where did you get that impression?

Is it just me or have you said like a bazillion times that you're trying to do this wedding on the cheap?

  • Very pretty - I particularly like the second photo, actually I think I've pinned it on Pinterest. Overall I really like the idea of a wine bottle, some gourds and candles, and seasonal flowers in the bottle!

I'm wondering about the color scheme because you mentioned blue several times, but fall colored flowers. I guess I'm having a hard time picturing how that is going to look, do you have any inspiration photos of all those colors together?

I have, but we have budgeted for things like centerpieces, cake, flowers, dj, favors, etc. My idea of "cheap" is to buy local in season flowers rather than going with a florist.

  • what is your floral budget? How many guests are you expecting?
  • WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO US!!!!!!!!!!

WTF? I can't even post anything related to a wedding without people jumping all over me. Yes we are trying to keep it under a certain amount, but we have gone through each thing we would like to have there and made a budget. What is wrong with that? Our budget includes cutting corners in some places and scaling down in others, but seriously - I can't even mention having flowers at my wedding?

  • I like the idea but have you priced flowers? Have you gotten quotes for anything else? THe reason i ask is because i nearly had a heart attack when i started getting quotes from people about various things and they were about double what I was thinking that things would cost.

  • Of course you can mention it! Haven't we said a million times that we like to talk wedding stuff?

what I think is insane is that you keep insisting you can't go $100 over budget on the dress but suddenly you can afford floral centerpieces and who knows what else for flowers.

Maybe just preface the wedding posts with a dollar amount so that I can stop wanting to dropkick you every time you post stuff that looks like you have unlimited money to spend and then follow it up with I'M ON A BUDGET, GAHD.

YES. We have priced flowers and other things we'd like to do and based our budget on that. We did not just come up with numbers out of the blue and expect to find things that fit into our budget.

I never once said I couldn't afford to spend an additional $100, I said I did not want to spend an extra $100.

  • I'm pretty sure you're allowed to spend your budget on whatever you feel is important to your wedding.  The best way to know what you can afford and what is important to you is to look at lots of different ideas and narrow them down.  Just like you're doing right now.

I think the centerpieces would like nice with or without flowers.

I was just to a wedding this past weekend and the girls wore an eggplant color and carried green/white hydrangea bouquets.  The tables were white table clothes with a sheer gold ribbon down the center with a large green spider mum floating in a bowl and a some votive candles scattered down the middle.  It was simple, pretty and inexpensive.  The colors weren't matchy matchy and everything flowed together just fine.

ETA:  Regarding colors:  I was in an October wedding a few years ago where we wore eggplant dresses and had fall colored wildflowers as our bouquets.  The fact that we wore a purple color and had yellow/orange bouquets didn't make any difference.  The colors complimented one another.  I would think that blue would be similar if that's the color you choose.

  • I did the pumpkin filled with flowers as my centerpiece (H had actually sent me that same arrangement earlier on the day he proposed... he always gives me flowers on Halloween.  It's my Valentine's Day).  Nooooooot cheap, but beautiful.

If you're doing the wine bottles, I would possibly suggest cool, twisty branches coming out of them.

  • It's commonly accepted bridal wisdom that there are two foundation rules for wedding planning.

    1) Set a budget as a whole.

    2) Allocate that budget based on what's important to you.

These are the two things you have difficulty grasping and the constant source of our frustration. And just for clarification's sake, by important, we mean shiit that you have a distinct vision of going on inside your head.

As it reads to us, it looks like you're being a skinflint about a wedding dress even though you have your heart set on a certain look but you're being a spendthrift on wedding flowers even though you really don't know what you want.

    You confuse us.

Marrying a man who loves porn even though you hate it is making more sense at this point.

  • Here are some pics of my friend's wedding that used fall colors and minimal flowers.

  • You know what DL, I spent bonkers money on my wedding and it was amazing. I budgeted and I stayed within my numbers, but I spent a lot more than you're planning to. An extra $100 here or there to make my vision happen was worth it to me. I have no idea how your budget is divided. So I'm done with the money stuff. I will comment on your photos and when you try to actually make this stuff happen, you'll see how much it costs and then you can decide if it's something you want to spend your money on. That's what's going to happen regardless of what I say, right?

    /end ab's money concern/

I think the second photo you posted is gorgeous. I think the flowers in the pumpkin are beautiful. You know what would be really pretty? Fairy-tale pumpkins.

And yes, let's speak of money no more.

  • Regardless of budget, I think that's the best way to do it anyway. Have a vision you really love, and then find a way to make it work for you, even if that means pulling one element from a Preston Bailey monstrocity and then figuring out how it can be done on your scale, budget etc.

Those fairytale pumpkins are gorgeous btw.
