This is actually two questions:
1. What kind of car do you drive?
2. Out of all of the cars you've had, which was your favorite? Feel free to explain why!
Re: QOTD - Tuesday (cars)
I have never been a "car" person - I buy them to get me around, safely. I keep them for years -- don't trade in every 3 like some folks. New bells and whistles aren't that important to me...I'm clearly not a target audience for car salesmen!
"What is a week-end?"
1. Honda Civic VP (VP = Value Package. There are manual windows, manual locks, came without floor mats.)
2. The Civic, because it was my first "responsible adult" transaction, even though it was leased (I bought out the lease so it's really mine now). It was a great feeling to drive it off the lot with only 8 miles on it.
1. 2004 Mazda Tribute (essentially the same as a Ford Escape)
2. This one. It's very me. It's SUVish without being hulky. I don't drive much during the week, so although the MPG isn't very good I don't have much to complain about. On the weekend, we are often headed to the beach or trails (both with dogs in tow) and it's perfect for all our stuff.
It's getting a little beat up and I'd like to replace it with either the same thing or an Escape Hybrid in a few years. Glad to hear you like yours, Pam!
1. 2010 Chevy HHR
2. I really love this one. I didn't at first, but my hesitation was all cosmetic, and after my first road trip in it, I am totally sold. Plenty of room to haul people, luggage, the dog and maybe eventually a car seat.
Stand up for something you believe in.
1. A 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid
2. My high school/college car - a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International Edition. Oh yeah baby, it was sweet. Especially because everything on it was breaking. I called him Rudy, after Rudy on the first season of Survivor, because he was old and crotchety but very very loyal.
2. I loved my first car, just because it was my first. It was a 1984 Toyota Camry. At the end of it's life, it had numerous problems (driver's side window didn't work, a/c didn't work, it leaked oil like crazy, etc.). But it will always have a fond place in my heart.
1. What kind of car do you drive? I drive a (totally paid for - yay!) 2009 Toyota Matrix. I will drive it till it dies, which is hopefully a long, long time from now. (H's 1998 Corolla is still going strong, so I have a lot of faith in Toyota.)
2. Out of all of the cars you've had, which was your favorite? Well, it wasn't mine, but my dad's 1989 Jeep Cherokee which I got to drive on occasion when in high school/college. It was fun to drive, and so much cooler than the 1984 Dodge Caravan which was technically mine.
1. 2009 Nissan Versa hatchback.
2. This is a tough one... I really liked the cars I drove as a teenager.
One was a Barney-purple 1975 Vega station wagon hatchback, with black & white houndstooth interior. That one was my first car... and, despite being a piece of junk, was all sorts of awesome. I bought it by myself when I was 16, with babysitting money (it was like $300 or something).... the back seat folded down even with the trunk space, perfect for dates with my boyfriend. hahahahahah!
I also really loved my 2nd car, a 1988 honda Civic. It was roomy inside, and drove really fast (I may or may not have driven it at 110 on the highway a couple of times!). It also had the cool flip-up headlights. That car got me through college.
I think our next car will be something like a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. But, that's a couple of years away.
This car sounds amazing!
I currently drive a tricked out 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan (ah, the joy of children where leather seats are now a must). I like it, it's very comfortable, has seat warmers, and is easy to drive. We drive all cars till they die, so I am grateful to have a new one to get to know and love.
I really love my 2009 Prius. I bought this right after my DH and I got married and the mpg is amazing. Since DH drives farther to get to work, he takes it on weekdays, but I love zooming around in it on the weekends. There is nothing like seeing 50+ mpg when your weekday car gets 19 mpg on a good day...
It was a slightly different model (a couple years difference) of this car... LOL
1. Saturn VUE - good for toting baby and two dogs
2. BMW 323i - it just drove really well, it was my present to myself after I had been badly injured (and other car totaled) by a drunk driver. The bad part was it was very expensive to repair and maintain.
1. A 2009 Volkswagen Routan...a mini van was a must after having two kids 14 months apart. It's easy and has everything we need and then some, but I still feel dorky driving it!
2. I had an 2006 Infiniti G35. Loved, loved, loved that car! It was sporty, fast and luxurious - the first car I ever bought that wasn't simply just to get me from point A to point B. I kind of feel like it was my "I made it" car, if that makes sense. Unfortunately I had to trade it in when we had DS. We couldn't fit two rear facing carseats in it without sitting all the way up on the dash:( No sense in keeping it because DH has a company car.
1. 2005 Ford Escape XLT
2. I like my current car the best. I purchased it brand new and got what I wanted.
Honestly, I don't have a lot of attachment to cars and if I could I would totally get rid of it if I could. but we are already a one car family and not having a car is not an option for us since we have a dog and my family lives on the Eastern Shore.
1. My current car is a Volvo XC60
2. My favorite car that I've ever had was an Infiniti FX35. It was a great car - had tons of power, was luxurious and pretty and I just LOVED the way it drove. It was a lease, and we considered buying it out but Infiniti is one of those companies that is completely non-negotiable on the buy out price, and we just couldn't justify paying what they wanted for a 3 year old car (based on the fact that we didn't negotiate in the beginning, we would have paid about $15K more than what we would have been able to purchase it for if we had taken a conventional loan at the outset). I miss it and probably would have bought a new one instead of this Volvo but I didn't like the new body style and the crazy tricked out silver vents that they added to the sides. I'd definitely buy another Infiniti in a heartbeat - sadly can't say the same about my Volvo!
my car in high school and through college was a 1985 cutlass supreme! had no AC, a broken tape deck, and the back windows didn't go down but got me through a bunch of new england & central NY winters before it died in 2001.
i haven't owned a car since i moved to NYC in 2000 so since that is the only car that has been mine so by default, it's my favorite
i did have some great memories of fun beach days and road trips in that car.
2. My current car is my first and only so far. It only had 45,000 miles when I bought her, so she is still running great. (Appearance, well, that's another story...) We're planning to replace her in the spring for something from this decade. I'll miss her, but won't mind an upgrade at all!
2. Out of all of the cars you've had, which was your favorite? Feel free to explain why! The '91 Honda Civic my dad had when I learned to drive. It was still relatively new when I got my license and it was sorta "mine" in HS as long as I drove Dad to/from work. It had awesome visibility and a tiny turning radius, so was pretty much a treat for a reckless HS driver. I finally traded it out with my parents for a slightly newer version when they were worried it was going to give out while I was driving from here to OH to visit. There's special something about a HS car. I knew how many friends could fit in the trunk, because we had enough time to kill back then to decide to climb into a trunk for fun.
1. My current car is a 2006 Pontiac Vibe - finally paid off!
2. My favorite car was probably the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder I drove when I moved back to New England from the Northwest. It was a nice ride and was awesome during New England winters and for all those great ski trips we took when I lived up there. Gas mileage sucked which is why I got the car I have now, which is just OK.
I had a Cutlass Supreme, too! It was a 199X'somthing... my first car I *really* bought all by myself. Got a loan from the credit union, and bought it from an old guy that lived down the street from my grandparents. I had her from 2001-2004'ish. She drove pretty nice... and, it was a cute car (bright red, with a cloth top... LOL) I'll always have memories of that car - since I packed all my stuff up in it and drove from MI to TX and back, and then from MI to DC.
I drive a 2011 Nissan Xterra. Just got it a little over a month ago (bought it during Hurricane Irene, actually!) DH drives a 2009 Honda Civic.
I love love love my Xterra. It's my second one. It's the perfect size for us. The back seat is a little narrow, but it's rare we sit back there, so it's not us that has to suffer. It does great in winter conditions and it's not a complete gas gussler as far as SUVs go. It's just fun to drive.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
1) 2009 Subaru Outback. We bought it before DS was born, it's our family car (we only have one car). I like it a lot--it's got all wheel drive, a huge sun roof, and plenty of room for car trips. Never had any problems with it so far (knock wood).
2) My first car out of college--a blue VW Beetle. I bought it like a week after graduation, using all my graduation gift money as a down payment. It was zippy and cute, had a sun roof and a little flower vase (!), and my friends always said the interior smelled like crayons. We even managed to stuff a Christmas tree in the trunk once. I did have to ask my dad for help with one payment, I remember (hadn't started my first job yet) but when I paid that baby off I put the last payment up on the fridge. I was so proud!

1. I have a 2006 Acura TL
2. I've only had 2 cars and I can't say either have been my favorite. DH picked this car out but I really wanted the Acura RDX they were just not willing to negotiate and wanted full sticker price. I saw the prices have dropped but not ready for a car payment just yet.
I was going to say the same thing! Houndstooth interior sounds very posh.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
1. DH and I equally drive both our cars. One is a 2008 Honda Odyssey--the official vehicle of the twin mom. The other is a 2007 Honda Fit. We got that to offset the largesse of the van. Love them both.
2. I still miss my turquoise Sammy the Saturn that I got in 1993 when I got my license. It saw me through the most fun parts of high school, many trips between Boston and upstate NY for college, driving around upstate NY winters, the drive to and from Indiana for grad school, my grad school years in Bloomington, and then for my move to DC. It finally died on a trip to Bethany Beach in 2002 with my ex-BF. Our relationship also died that weekend. I was way sadder about Sammy than ex-BF.
I drive a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid (I remember you having one too, Litasail!). Her name is Sophie.
I love her. Watching my MPGs is intoxicating. You can watch the current MPG and the average over an entire trip. My commuting average is currently about 39 to 42, and that's in stop-and-go traffic. My best average ever was 49 when she was brand new. See? Addicting. Hubby makes fun of her beep though. It's the opposite of intimidating and I use it rarely.

1. I have a 2011 Hyundai Tucson.
2. Its a tie - I bought this car when my 2006 Tucson hit 100K miles, the warranty expired, and needed a ton of repairs, so we quickly traded it in for a newer and safer model. I loved that the 2006 was paid off, felt roomier, and had a sunroof, and I love that my new one has leather seats, XM radio, and blue tooth.
DH had a VW Jetta when we met, and I commented that it smelled like Crayons. Apparently any VW newer than a '98 are packed/shipped from Europe with wax for shipping purposes and the dealerships dont bother to take it out thats why there is a crayon smell.
1. I have a 2008 Acura TL.
2. Hmmmm... ever since moving to the east coast, I've relied a lot more on GPS than the typcial grid pattern of the roads and the mountains/water side. Here, everything is curvy! Therefore, the TL is exactly what I needed! ;-). Although, I'll say I recall vividly the day I bought my first car on my own and zoomed across the floating bridge to downtown being late to a group dinner as I wasn't expecting to buy a car that night, whoops. (This is in Seattle). A 1999 Honda Accord. I really like my current car the best, although my high school car was pretty fun too, a 1988 Subaru XT6, I never see them around anymore... I had the nicer ones as I see plenty of ugly interiors.
1. I have a 2006 BMW 525xi. I was single at the time I bought it, and figured it would probably be my one chance to treat myself to a nice car before I had to worry about buying more practical (i.e. family) cars. Honestly, I don't think I would buy one again - BMW maintenance is quite expensive (e.g. you can't change the wiper blades, you have to buy an entire new set of wipers at $70 a pop!), and the electronic system is a little over the top and not very user-friendly. It is reliable though, which has meant that we were able to keep the aforementioned Jeep (see my car donation post) a lot longer than we would otherwise.
2. A 1995 Chevy Blazer. It was my first car, and I'd wanted a Blazer since I was a little girl (my parents had one when I was 4-5 or so). Unfortunately, it started having major engine problem in 2001, and that was the end of that...
