Someone, please!

Tell my H there will be no "fattening me up."  He for some reason thinks I should start eating for two now because we are TTC. Last night he was trying to convince me to eat more broccoli by promising to make ice cream sundaes for dessert later. Zip it!

Re: Someone, please!

  • Does your H understand how "fattening up" works? Broccoli is not going to cut it. If he starts trying to slather velveeta on his peen before BJs, come back and we'll have this talk.

  • More broccoli won't fatten you up, it will just give you gas!

  • Eating for 2 is a myth.  Unless the second person you're referencing is your butt.

Is this just a devious ploy to get more junk in your trunk?

Yeah definitely - you can eat a crapload of broccoli and still have consumed a very small amount of calories!

Everything goes to my boobs. Bastard!

  • Broccoli may not do it, but the ice cream sundaes will!

Seriously, though, all you need at this point are prenatal vitamins and folic acid.  And even when you are pg, I think you only need an additional 400 calories per day.

  • Maybe you should load up on the broccoli, then give him a dutch oven at some point overnight. When he complains, tell him you just want him to start getting used to that now because the gas will only get worse--not better when you're with child.

I vote for this. Maybe he's secretly a butt man.

According to my nutrition class, the caloric intake during pregnancy goes:
    1st Tri: No additional calories
    2nd Tri: 340 calories extra
    3rd Tri: 450 calories extra

So, you're definitely never "eating for two" in a pregnancy.

Although, if you're clinically underweight, you're supposed to gain minimum 28 pounds, maximum 40 so I guess an underweight person could break the calorie advisory while pregnant.

Motzie, the only 'important' thing while TTC is folate/folic acid. The baby needs it in the early, early weeks and most women don't realize they're pregnant during that time. Apparently all women of child-bearing ages should take the supplement just in case.

  • Thanks Froggy. I think he worries because I'm a vegetarian. I'm also small, although I'm not underweight. I've all over the vitamins.
  • I didn't know you are veg.

I think your H is cute. He's so excited and you aren't even pregnant yet.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns
