AW Thursday

Re: AW Thursday

  • I am officially being moved - again - for work. This is an AW of sorts.

As good as it is that i'll be working with DH again - and we'll be on the same shift and saving gas money. I'm really starting to get tired of moving/changing desks. They don't give a girl much notice either. I start there monday.

     But yay for job security!

  • Ashlee - yay for saving gas, boo for short notice!

As of right now, everything for my 10/15 deadline is off my desk.  I will have 2 things to do this afternoon, but they should be easy, and then I can breath again!  Fingers crossed for a smooth afternoon.

And also, the a/c guy still hasn't come, and I haven't gotten the 30-minute warning phone call either.  His window is 10-2... he better show up.

it'll be a HUGE gas saver - i drive a jeep wrangler - that's lifted...with huge tires. I think i average about 12-14MPG haha. Comes out to about a tank a week - AKA $70 a week. that will completely be gone.

  • Hi Ladies!

Chelsea - I too am envious of your adventurous job, but I have a couple friends who shoot weddings and know it can be super stressful and long hours.

OB/GYN - Definitely NOT OK. I don't know if I would have said something, but I like to think that I would have called her on it.

AW: I had a great time with my newfound cousin last night! He is so sweet and doing this amazing trip all by himself - reminds me of when I was 23. Guess stuff like that really does run in the family Wink

I finally bit the bullet and found myself an OB/GYN. So I get my IUD out in two weeks! Hooray!! I think she's going to be great - so she'll be the one that helps us along on this next adventure. Kind of scary. In a cool way.

Congrats on the job!(and spending more time with DH!) Jeeps are notorious for being gas guzzlers! I had a Jeep Grande Cherokee when I was a teenager, and it got about the same amount of MPG yours does. With all that money you'll be saving, gives you a perfect excuse to go shopping!

If hes doesnt come by 2, I would call them. How have you gone without a/c for the last few days? Right about now, I would be pacing back and forth outside, and trying to see the guy coming down the road! I hope he fixes it asap!

  • He's there now, so I don't have to raise a fuss :)  We have a small portable a/c unit that James bought for the garage, and we hooked it up in the bedroom & it's vented out through the window.  So, the bedroom is super cool in the evenings, and the rest of the house was about 79 yesterday evening.  Not comfortable, but not horrible either.  If we didn't have that little unit, we'd have been sleeping over at my sister's, for sure!

Next week is kind of the end of volleyball season here (I think it's our last home game) and they're doing "recognition night".  I've been asked to show up for a JV and a Varsity player.  I feel kind of important!

That's so sweet - you SHOULD feel important!! It's always nice to know you've made an impact on someone - especially young people.

Thank you :). Yeah we knew going into the purchase that it wouldn't be great on gas. But at the time i was working 6 miles from home - now its more like 30-40 miles. so circumstances have changed a bit lol.

  • An AW:  my a/c is fixed, for 60 smackers!  The capacitor was out, and my brother tried to be funny and tell me it was the flux capacitor, from Back to the Future, but I knew that joke already.  Hooray for a/c!!!

YAY! Now relax in it! Boo for costing you so much! Back to the Future=one of the best movies of all time! :)

I've decided I want to do boudoir pics again.  They were such a confidence booster last time :-p

I love Back to the Future.  I actually hadn't seen it until I started dating DH.  I had never seen Christmas Story either!

  • The doctor thing: Not okay. Maybe if you had a long-standing relationship, but not for a new doc.

NFP: I didn't exactly practice NFP, but I did get off the pill and charted my cycles about a year prior to TTC. I was on the pill for something like eleven years, and I think my cycles regulated in about 6 months. I totally got pregnant the weekend I said I would, so I definitely think it can work for TTC. I'm not at all convinced that it's a valid form of BC, though-- especially since anyone who has read TCoYF knows that swimmers can live for up to 5 days. :) A little risky for my liking.

I really don't have any AWs today. Oh, I've decided to start taking classes toward getting a degree in nursing. I have a lot of research to do, since I don't know if I want to get an ADN or BSN. I already have a BA in History, so I don't NEED the bachelor's for myself, but if it's worth it for getting a good job, I may have to suck it up and take the extra classes.

Feel free to give an opinion on the matter, any health care professionals out there!

I was kinda proud that it was cheap - my friend had the same problem, and it cost her $360 to get it fixed!  I'd love to go relax in it... 2.5 more hours, and I'm outta here, on time today!  At least that's the plan......... *fingers crossed*

Angie - Yay for the quick and easy fix!  This happened to us (after the other fiasco) and I was freaking out.... I remember I was SO relieved.

    1. RE: NFP - I use it as BC and we are 4 months without even a scare. My sister did it for 2 year prior to having my nephew without an issue, my other friend for 3 year and I could go on and on. If you do it properly it is just as effective as other BC. Yes, you do learn that "swimmers" can be there for 5 days.

    2. RE: Nursing - It all depends on what you want to do and if you really have a passion for it. I've worked in a couple hospitals and a few clinics. If you want to be a nurse cause you think it pays well and that's all you shouldn't do it. Those nurses normally are miserable (hours vs. pay) and patient care lacks greatly for it. If you feel nursing is an option because you want to acutally help other then great! We need more people like that. I don't know what ADN is, but a BSN is favored over RN in most cases.

After having major pregnancy complications and a baby in the NICU and having exceptional care, I have a strong desire to be able to help others the way our nurses helped us. I've been getting myself into the mindset that it means more school, and I'm getting excited for the challenge. It's just a matter of finding the right program for me and taking the science prereqs I need.

I have to disagree that it is not a valid form of birth control. While no from of birth control is completely fail-safe the fact that you were able to pinpoint your conception to a weekend of your choosing (lucky you!) seems to support the validity of the method, but to each their own. If you are not comfortable with it, it's not for you.

Random but I am tempted to tear out flooring tonight so we can get a jump on the new floors tomorrow.

I didn't say that it is not a valid form of birth control. I said that I'm not convinced that it is. Meaning- I do not personally know of anyone who used this method for an extended period of time and didn't get pregnant. I do know someone who used this method and did get pregnant when they were trying not to, however. It's all about what works for you.

I am sorry I offended you with my statement. That was absolutely not intended to be polarizing.

I still don't know what you are asking

  • I think she was asking about the pros and cons of ADN (2yr RN program) vs BSN (4yr RN program).

I have very little input on that topic, but just wanted to clarify.  My mom is a retired ADN, my MIL is a recent BSN grad.  Mom felt overworked/underpaid when she was working, MIL feels that way now (she was an LVN before going back to school).  Maybe we all feel that way about our jobs, but I really think they both work/worked way more than a normal person should!

  •  My question was whether it is greatly more beneficial from an employment standpoint to get a BSN instead of an associate's degree RN. My dream job in nursing is NICU.

Ok got it. Yea having your BSN will open more doors for you for sure. RN is limited on the scope of work comparatively. More hospitals are switching to BSN then RN because of the things BSNs can do. Plus, it is something of a factor the pay is better for a BSN.

Got it. That's exactly what I was asking. Thank you! I've done some research, and there are a lot of program options in the area. I'm going to have to meet with some advisors to come up with a good plan.

I totally thought you were paging me.

  • A friend of mine just got her BSN and is now a NICU nurse. She already had a bachelors in sports medicine and went back to get her second bachelors because she was advised that it was a much better move than the associates. She had a job before she even graduated, so based on her I think BSN is the way to go.
