Because I have one:
I flame people who smoke while they are pregnant. I see it constantly around Parkland I just want to grab them and say Do You Know What You Are Doing?? Come on grow up and think about the kid your carrying! There is nothing to justify this. Nothing.
Re: FFF Friday
For sure. My husband has an employee who is pregnant and openly admits to smoking and drinking. At least hide it if you are going to do it! I can't not judge.
I flame myself for backing into my husband's parked truck this morning and crumpling my passenger-side fender. Super sucks! It's what I get for being in a big dumb hurry all the time.
This is not funny, at all. But I have a related story that is.
I was at a party a few years ago, and this VISIBLY pregnant girl was walking around smoking and drinking. I mean, her belly was poking through her shirt because her clothes were too small. She was even rubbing her belly, like pregnant women do. I'd guess like 6 months along. It was really REALLY bothering me and the guy I was at the party with.
Finally, I couldn't handle it anymore, and I called her out on it. Told her exactly how irresponsible it was to be smoking and drinking like that when it's been proven what the effects can do to her unborn baby. She was shocked that I said something to her... mostly because she wasn't pregnant.
Freshman beer gut rears it's ugly head. I felt like such an idiot.
Similar story:
A good friend of mine was a bartender and a couple walked up to the bar and ordered drinks. The wife went and sat down at a table while her husband waited for the drinks. My bartender friend told the man that he really didn't feel comfortable serving alcohol to his pregnant wife. The husband busted out laughing and totally Itoldyaso'ed his wife-- who was definitely not pregnant.
Chelsea- Wow! I'd be so embarrassed! :-P
I know my DHs mom smoked while she was pregnant with him and all his siblings. I still can't believe someone would be so irresponsible about that!

I have no flames. I am in a glorious mood today - I get off at noon (without having to take PTO), my doggy is chillin' at the neighbor's house because he works from home, and I'm going to do a little shopping this afternoon and enjoy the beautiful fall weather!
Although, I will say, I am a nonsmoker. I get really frustrated when people smoke around me and are not considerate about it.... at least stand where the smoke will blow away from me. And dispose of your butts properly - in a trashcan. Not in my front yard, neighbor! (Obv not the same neighbor keeping Crispin today.)
My mom smoked when she was pregnant with both of us and I don't remember seeing so much literature about it until after we were born. And I don't really consider my mom an irresponsible person. They knew about drinking and the affects on a fetus at that time so she never drank when she was pregnant.
ETA: I obviously wouldn't have known about literature right after I was born but in the last 70s leading up to when my brother was born in 1982, I do not remember seeing commercials, warnings, etc. so much as now and not to the extent that they talked about drinking and pregnancy.
That's the thing, though. I don't consider it irresponsible if you don't know. The irresponsibility lies in having access to all the information, and deciding to do it anyway.
Case in point...
I went on a BENDER the weekend before we found out we were pregnant with Dot. I took a test before we went out of town, it was negative, and I did it up RIGHT. I even smoked, which I hadn't done in years. When I found out I was pregnant, and how far along I was, I felt awful. I was in a serious depression over it. My doctor encouraged me and told me that God has a way of protecting babies that we don't yet know we're carrying. And, obviously, Dottie is fine. But man, I felt so rotten for having unknowingly endangered her.

I have a favorite saying - a smoking section in a resturant is like a peeing section in a pool.
In other news, i have a co-worker out because she just had her baby. She continued smoking a pack a day throughout the entire pregnancy. She even tried to justify it by her doctor telling her it might actually do more harm than good because she was such an avid smoker - and that going cold turkey could hurt the baby. I wanted to whack her upside the head and tell her she was an idiot....never did. Thank god i move monday before she comes back.
In other news - i'm in a good mood today. I got the new Iphone. Yes - me and DH were those crazy people you see on TV that are waiting outside the store for hours. I always thought to myself i'd never be that crazy person. But honestly my phone is jacked and I can't wait an entire month for a new one. We got there at 1am this morning. The store opened at 8. The mall however - didn't open till 5am. But we managed to get in from a guard lol. Luckily we were 2nd in line - so i was in and out of the store in 20 minutes. I am exhausted though - i've been awake since 6am yesterday - with the exception of a 30 minute nap this morning at the mall haha - on the floor.
Bahahahahah classy, very classy
Lots and lots of people smoked while pregnant before it was proven to cause a risk to babies. I'm a big Mad Men fan, and it was shocking at first to watch Betty Draper and her friends smoke and drink through pregnancy-- but hey, those were different times. I don't judge women who smoked while pregnant before the early 80's even. Now that we know better, it's just nice to see women give their fetuses a break.
Yay for new iPhones! I want one, but will wait for the mania to die down a tad. I've had my 3G for 2 and a half years now, and can use an upgrade. I want one for the camera on it.
DH's brother's baby mama smoked when she was pregnant. I have a feeling that she knew it was wrong, because she was trying to hide it by doing it around the corner from us.
Anyone have any fun plans this weekend? I'm going to look at furniture with my mom who is redoing my old bedroom at their house into an office for my dad.

I want that phone. Now that Sprint has the Iphone I want it, but no way to justify that purchase.. I think ever. I'll stick with my phone until I can get a rebate or something on it.

DH and I both had the 3G's....not the 3GS's...the brick 3G's. And i'm sure you know from having to deal with it - but since they upgraded the networks for the newer faster phones - the older phones get left to be practically annoying and useless. It lags like no other. And the camera's on those BLOW hard core. I haven't had a chance to play with mine yet. but DH has constantly been texting me - i think he's officially obsessed with the talk to text feature.
Ours will be here today!
We've just been waiting for Spring to get the iPhone, and as soon as they were available for pre-order, we ordered ours. I'm pretty dadgum excited, because my Palm Pre has not held up well at all. Yay for newness!
I'm the green eyed monster on this! I have a pixi and it's dying quickly. Tell me how you like it. Maybe I can get a combined Christmas/Birthday present this year. I wouldn't mind it if it was an iphone.

Now I'm really jealous! Now that I have a little one, I take tons of pics with my phone, and you're right, it does blow.
Apparently the first set of "pre-orders" for this launch sold out in the first 5 hours. And then they started pushing the delivery dates back. We just decided it would be easier to go to the store. First time - and ONLY time - i will EVER do that lol

Ben and I are both getting the Iphones at the end of the month and it pains me--I told him I would take the $99 old 4G but he said no. We told Mel she could have the 3G which is free if she would pay for her data plan. I hope we don't have to wait forever.
We have a pretty busy weekend planned with going out with friends, the Rangers, the Cowboys and the fair.
Chelsea, that story is hilarious! About 2 months after I had Melodie, I had a guy ask me when I was due and I got to explain that I had just HAD my baby. It's always better to err on the side of caution!

Just do it!
We have to go to Bill's company picnic instead of getting to go to College Station. I really wanted to go this weekend too. Stupid picnic.
We saw "Moneyball" last night and, while I've never been a huge Athletics fan, I felt really sorry for them. They were on the cusp possibly of being a really great team and they got gutted because there's no longer any loyalty in sports, or any where really. I don't blame people for following money I guess but you just don't see a whole lot of loyalty any more.
Chelsea - that is totally something I would do! Just my luck.
I don't have any flames today. I am getting my flu shot today so that kinda stinks!
last time i checked (mid-week) before we decided to do the wait at the store fiasco. It was a 2-3 week wait for "pre-order" phones. But i think it also matters where you're located and such.

dont do it!
you'll never get out of bed!
I've been asked when I'm due on more than one occasion, and it's really not fun. Stupid apple shape! In addition to wanting to be healthy and all that, I want to lose enough weight now so that when I do get pregnant someday, I actually look pregnant instead of just bigger.
Do any of you know if there are scholarships or grants for continuing education? I'd like to take some small business classes and I'd prefer to not pay much and I definitely don't want to take out loans.
Julie - I also saw Moneyball and really liked it! I wasn't too excited to go initially, but thought it was a great story. It was/is a kind of depressing story - I just can't believe he turned down a $30 (?) MILLION dollar contract. Insane.
Smoking while Pregnant - My brother was born in 1976 and my Mom quit smoking when she discovered she was pregnant. Not sure if it was some new notion that smoking was harmful to a fetus, but her doctor told her to stop. Ironically, her doc also told my Mom to have half a beer 3-4 times a week in her third trimester. So yeah.
I could go on and on and on flaming stupid drivers. I think that this commute has made me an angry driver. I don't mind if someone is confused, but what incenses me is when the ding-a-ling is on the phone. Dangerous driving!!!! I can't tell you how many near accidents I see each week, and the person has been on the phone in way too many cases.
PS My mom didn't really follow the beer instructions & my brother is perfectly healthy. Although he does really like beer a lot.....
I don't know what city you live in, but Fort Worth offers free small business classes. So if nothing else, you could look into those?
This morning was a cluster. I left my house an hour earlier than normal with then intention of arriving at UTA to hard-core study my notes and reading for 1.5 hours before my test. Things were going swimmingly until Cooper St. The railroad crossing arms right before UTA were perma-down for some reason and Cooper was closed. The back-up was almost all the way to 30. It literally took me an extra hour to get to school, leaving half an hour for study. I found an awesome parking spot within seconds of pulling into the lot, so I was thinking I can still salvage this morning. Got to the hall, sat down, pulled out my book which I had put all of my notes into as well and...it's my book for theses writing class...not women's studies. Test went fair to midling, so we will see.
Tomorrow is pregnancy loss awarness day. Just a heads up if you are easily emotional as the Facebook meme people are out in full force.
Yay for iPhones! I have the 4 already so I couldn't justify getting the new one just so I could ask it to marry me or take awesome(r) pics, so I will wait for the official iPhone 5 or whatever comes next. You girls will L-O-V-E them.
ETA: Oh yeah - pregnancy and smoking = idiocy. My aunt has four kids, two she had in the mid-eighties and two in the mid-late 90's, she smoked with all four. It astounds me because her first two were both beset with terrible asthma at young ages, but she saw no reason not to smoke with the second two. For shame.
