Re: Vow Renewals
You said this perfectly - I totally agree. Maybe also I think it was super annoying of BIL because it was over a year later when they had their church ceremony - and the whole shebang. If they had done the JP ceremony and then a few month later done the church/reception/white dress thing...it might not have rubbed the wrong way as much.
LadyE - can I ask...which do you celebrate as your anniversary - the JP one or the church one?
I guess that makes sense - I'd probably do the same thing. Especially since most people don't know that there is even another wedding that they missed.
This is totally out of left field, I know, but does anyone remember the wedding episode of Mad About You? Paul and Jamie get so annoyed by everyone inserting themselves in their wedding plans, they end up getting married the day before (I think it was) by Lyle Lovett, who's a JP. And like a Con-Ed worker, if I remember correctly - they get married next to a manhole. And then they find out later that he wasn't actually able to marry them, and since they signed the papers at their "wedding" with fake names, they're not legally married.
Yeah, I know. Random. Carry on.
