I was just going to buy the assorted set from Target or Walmart, then call it a day. Now that I read that thread I'm second guessing myself. I know there are people who's daily working conditions are atrocious & they don't get paid nearly what they should to produce things we take for granted.
So now I want to buy some fair-trade candy & hand it out. Trouble is, where do I get said Fair-Trade Candy? How do you know its FT? Is it labeled.
Its discussed here: Fair Trade Candy Thread on PC&E
I don't know if I will be giving the lecture pamphlet out but I do want hand out FT candy if I can. I'm a little afraid to get mixed up in that thread (because I don't know much about it, but I am looking things up). Does anyone know where to get reasonably priced Fair-Trade Candy?
Re: Will you be giving out Fair-Trade Candy this Halloween?
I'm giving out rulers and pencils. I'm THAT lady.
Nah, really, we live in an apartment complex, so we might have like two kids show up, and I'll eat the rest of the Milky Ways myself because I'm a fatty.
Which really means that I won't buy Fair Trade candy, just because I might not buy any candy at all.
Yeah, last year we had like 40 total show up at our door. I was kind of disappointed to be honest. That is why I don't want to invest a whole lot on the candy if I'm going to be eating a lot of it all by myself. I still have to budget, kwim?
I grew up in a place with lots of kids in our neighborhood so Halloween was a thing in my hometown. Here its not so much of a big deal. I'm not sure if people are just afraid that their kids will disappear or if we just have a lot of old folks in this area.
This site though is making drool like a fiend: Divine Chocolate
I just thought that if I could find a reasonably priced FT candy that I would go ahead and do that.
We had like 40 at our place last year, and that was a BIG number. Of course, it's the only time we lived in a duplex in a neighborhood with a lot of kids. Still...yeah.
I'd go with the FT candy if you could find it at an affordable price.
We give a bowl of treats to our downstairs neighbors because they have 5 or 6 kids. That's the extent of our trick-or-treating participation.
eta: FTR, I generally buy fair trade chocolate for myself. I just don't really do Halloween.
We used to have this cool house that used to give out comic books at Halloween. Those days are looong gone.:)
Yesssss.
Which is why i always give out the certificates to Wendy's. Or else I give pixy stix.
If I do give out fair trade candy, it'll be because I chose to buy fair trade candy, not because I want to pontificate to little kids who don't give a sh*t because free candy is free candy (unless it's Circus Peanuts because those are terrible).
But this is my one opportunity a year to glut myself on peanut butter cups and snickers, so not bloody likely.
