Ok, the Occupiers are officially p!ssing me off.
?The system isn?t broken ? they made it this way,? shouted Derek F***, a 26-year-old graduate student and full-time worker. ?It?s meant to work for the 1 percent, who do absolutely no work and contribute nothing to society. They live off of our labor.?
I can't deal. Is this how the right feels about the Tea Party?
Re: Ok, the Occupiers are officially p!ssing me off.
The middle class are the bulk of the consumers, the bulk of those who attend colleges and universities and the bulk of those who pay property taxes, contribute money to other local and national taxes and the majority that drives the GDP.
Remember: the middle class is rapidly vanishing --- and it is being replaced at a phenomenal rate by the working class poor.
Without the middle class, we are all toast. We're done for.
No, just blame Citibank because you got a masters in Philosophy and can't get a job. Grrrr, there are just so many things wrong with these protests, it drives me crazy. I can't believe I'm agreeing with you, Geek, lol.
Add in the education cartel, a very large heaping aliquot of "everybody must go to college" and a bigger dash of supply and demand and you have your bulk of the problem with tuition rates that are off the charts.
I completely agree with you. Every story I read/hear irritates me more.
There was an "Occupy Trenton" rally in NJ, and only two people showed up.
LMAO!
Seriously, though, where' is the personal responsibility of choosing a degree where there is a very limited field? I mean, if you're going to spend that kind of money to go to school, shouldn't you be able to do something with it? That's great if you want to study philosophy, but make it your minor and study something that actually has some sort of potential for landing a job. Its just common sense, really.
I've been saying this too. We need less people going to college so the college grads can actually find jobs! Ha. These days, degrees don't necessarily mean anything anymore.
I agree. I majored in Theatre. To put it mildly, the job opportunities for Theatre degrees in my area, are shall we say limited. Which, I knew going in, but I also seriously over-estimated the worth of having a degree, in general. I thought I would be able to work a decent non-theatre job, until I could work my way into a paid position at a community theatre.
It's frustrating though, when none of the other places I applied are hiring either. I don't know if that's wall street's fault, or not but it'd be nice if it changed.
