Re: QOTD - Monday (commuting)

  • Metrobus to the Metro (then 3 stops)

Not too bad, it can take as little as 30 minutes, but most of the time it takes 40-50 minutes.

  • About 30ish minutes to my p/t job.
  • Morning:

DH and i drop the kids off at DC - 5 minutes (it's three blocks away walking, but takes several minutes to drive only because we live on a one way street and have to go around several corners to get back to where DC is)

I drop DH off at the metro - 5 minutes

    I drive to work - 5 minutes

Total "commute" time - 15 minutes

    Afternoon:

I pick up the kids - 10 minutes

    I drive home - 2 minutes

Total "commute" time - 12 minutes

sometimes, a traffic light or a squirrel gets in the way and one of my legs takes 6 minutes.

  • Depends on the weather, how late I'll be at work and/or how much heavy stuff I'm carrying. If I metro, it's about 30 mins total. If I drive, can be anywhere from 25-45. I try to metro as much as possible.
  • I work from home, so my commute to my basement office is about 20 seconds, once I motivate to get down there.... though today's commute was a lot longer as I was greeted by a cricket that scared the crap out of me so I ran back upstairs and it took me ten minutes to get the courage to come back down.

  • It takes me 10-15 min to walk to work, depending on timing of the lights.

  • 3 miles. 15 minutes there, 25 minutes back because school gets let out and traffic is backed up a little bit (unless I leave 3 minutes early, then I miss it.  It's quite a precise operation).
  • 3 minutes if i go the route that has mainly right turns. Probably 7 minutes if i go the way with mainly left turns. Its awesome. Unfortunately we will probably move 30+ minutes away sometime between now and May.
  • i walk. depending on the lights and my pace it's 25-30 minutes. DH's commute is 5-7 minutes.

    PM: Metro: 50 minutes
Metro platform to car: 5 minutes

  • Morning - 10-15 minutes to DS's daycare depending on lights then 10 minutes to my office. Usually 30 minutes total since I chat with his DCP.

Afternoon - 10 minute drive to pick up DS, 5 minutes of chatting, 15 minute drive to pick up DD, 10 minutes to get her off the playground, grab her papers, make one lst trip to see the hamster, high five the skeleton, and grab the cursed snacks they put by the door then 3 minutes home.  All told, 45 minutes.

  • Monday's I drive to work - about 30 min from Burke to Old Town

Tuesday through Friday - my commute is 0 - I work from home those days.

However I do drive down from Burke to Braddock Metro every day (regardless of work) for my boot camp.

lol, yes, this gets added to my commute, too. as well as 5 minutes to get yelled at in the morning for being late (bfast is over at 8:45 and we never get there before 8:40)

  • I drive.  It's 35-40 minutes in the morning including daycare dropoff, and about the same going home (maybe 15 minutes longer on a bad day) with no stops.

  • I mostly work from home, so 2 min to drive Gwen to daycare, and usually back to my desk 5 min later.

When I have client meetings, dependin on the time of day, anywhere from an hour and a half to two and a half hours to get to their building.  Thank god the drive is billable!  When I was in the office, it took me 1.5 to 2 hours to get to work, and then about 1.5 to get home.

  • From garage to parking lot about 10 minutes - 12 if the traffic is bad. Wink

I really have it quite good.

  • I alternate between biking and driving.

The ride in takes about 30 mintues (7 miles); the ride home takes about 40 minutes (7 miles); the drive in takes about 20 minutes (5 miles) and the drive home takes about 25 minutes (5 miles).

  • Door to door - 45 minutes. This includes an 11-12 minute walk to the Metro station and then metroing from EFC to Smithsonian and a five minute walk from Smithsonian station to my office. It goes by quick and as long as Metro runs properly, I'm pretty relaxed when I get to work and when I get home.
  • Door to door it's an hour with drive to daycare dropoff, daycare to Metro station, park and ride, walk to office.

  • I drive to work. It takes 30-45 minutes depending on the traffic and the time I leave. This morning was 45 minutes.

My drive home takes 23-45 minutes depending on traffic. Yes I have timed it to 23 minutes. Tonight I'm picking LO up from daycare, so the drive to daycare takes a little longer than the drive home, and then it takes about 10-15 minutes to get home from daycare.

  • So many of you have really short commutes! I'm really surprised. I thought long commutes were standard here.

    My commute (I drive):
    Morning: 15 minutes
Afternoon: 25 minutes to daycare, 10 minutes to get M and all of his stuff, then 10 minutes back home (45 minutes total)

  • I drive to work. It used to be 42 miles each way and 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic, but because a bridge was washed out after Hurricane Irene, I now drive 51 miles each way. It takes about 75-90 minutes depending on traffic and how fast I can safely drive.
  • Ours is a little convoluted but not bad.

DH takes DS to daycare--drive, drop off, and return takes about 15 minutes.

Then we drive from our place to my building in SS, which takes 5-10 minutes depending on traffic.

I go up to my office, DH gets on the metro to Federal Triangle (another 1/2 hour or so).

On the way home, I usually go to DS's daycare (10 minute drive) and pick him up, then swing over to the Takoma metro (5 minutes away) to get DS and go home--about 30 minutes all told.

  • Morning: drive (opposite direction than the office) to daycare, drop off, chat with provider, drive to office- anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes

Evening: drive home- 15 to 25 minutes.

    easy peasy.

  • Morning:  5 minute drive to Metro (DH drops me off), 30-40 minutes to get to the platform, wait for a train, ride the train in, 5 min walk to work.  Total= between 45-50 minutes.

Afternoon:  One hour, from leaving my desk to arriving at daycare.  5 min walk to metro, approx 45 min on train, 5 min walk to car, 5 min drive to daycare.  Driving back to my house takes about 10-15 min.

  • I am so amazed at how many have short commutes!

    Morning: 40 minutes

Evening: averages 1 hour, but on a bad day it can take almost 2 hours.

  • My commute to work is 25 min door-to-door by car including a daycare drop-off. Coming home, it's about a 35 min commute door-to-door by car including daycare pick-up.

The good news is that there are rarely issues with traffic delays on my commute which is wonderful.

  • I drive and it generally takes 30 minutes. Now that I'm driving a minivan, I have to factor in an additional ten minutes for parking in my lot, as I'm not very good at it yet. Wink

  • 55 min. to an hour, depending on metro. I walk to get the shuttle bus in my complex (about a 4 minute walk), takes about 7 minutes to get to the metro, then factor in a little wait time on the platform and transferring, takes about 35 min. all together on the metro. My work is only a 2 min. walk once I get off.

I feel like my commute really isn't that long because I'm either reading, on my phone, or chatting with a neighbor the whole time.

  • Morning - 1.15 with dropping kids off at day care

    Evening - 50 min

    I drive both ways.
