Dr. V took at look at Pumpkin today and declared that he has got enough
support to be free from his crate. He is like a whole other cat from when they first saw him all skin & bones. He looks so much better with all of his fur grown back and a good weight.
So after a good turn about the house
meowing his head off he has taken up residence next to me in "his spot"
on the couch. He is very very happy.
Penny tried to pounce on him, but I told her to be good. My arm is now a
pin-cushion & my wrist a chew-toy. Haha I was worried he would be
mad at me (I got a HUGE hiss when I let him out of the cage) but he is
so happy to get some lovings that he is willing to forgive me as long as
I cuddle him. Will do!
Pictures to come once he doesn't freak out about the camera. ![]()

Re: Pumpkin is free! (link to photos added!)
Hooray for Pumpkin!!! He's looking fantastic!
Hey, I don't remember if I asked you before or not, but is he a Maine Koon? (Let's see if TN will accept an alternate spelling!) He's got all the fluff like my cat, Odin, and I'm pretty sure he's a MC (likes water, acts like a dog, still very much like a kitten at 4yo).
I don't really know. He is a stray that adopted us when we moved into this house. I would imagine (based on his coloring) that he most likely has some MC or Turkish Van in him. I don't know how he feels about water. He is pretty much scared of everything. I haven't even tried to get him near a sink or bathtub haha. Poor thing is very skittish even after 6 months in doors or so. Just today when J came home he hobbled like a mad-man to get under the bed. I wish there was a way to solve the fraidy cat behaviors, but he is just wired to run. He does feel secure up on the couch and loves his spot back.
I would be very interested to know his lineage, but I have no way to figure that out.
He's beautiful. So glad he's feeling better!
Consider trying a feliway plug-in in the area he likes the most. Also if he's able to climb, some vertical space like a cat tree will probably help him feel more secure.
Yay Pumpkin!!!! It's so great to see him looking healthy and gorgeous!
The fraidy cat behaviors will probably fade with time, though I'm sure it'll take longer than 6 months. Communicate to him like a cat and that may help: meow, purr, do slow eye blinks, etc. That helped my Angie who was super anxious.
