I called to follow up on the insurance claim from my accident last week. The police report won't be available until Monday, but the ins company said if the driver accepted liability then we could proceed with the claim and get going on repairs even before we got the police report.

Shockingly, they can't get the 20 year old kid with a drug problem to call them back and make a statement. The person I just talked to said that they talked to his mom (their insured) this morning and she refused to accept liability and said that her son needed to call back.

If I have to call and make a claim with my insurance company I'm going to be PISSED.

yes, a huge shock. And I'm trying really hard not to judge that mother right now.

If you want, you can join me on the judgey bus.

I'm usually miss puppies and rainbows but I'll volunteer to drive that bus.

While it shouldn't go on HER insurance either, it is more her responsibility than YOURS.  What a BITTCH.

ROFLMAO - someone is going to buy that because they didn't read.  And then he is not going to return their money because he advertised, plain as day, that it is an empty box.

I guess it wouldn't be so funny if I fell for it... but he is very very clear - there are 2 Q&A to that effect too!

I bet if someone STOLE an iPad and then needed the box to sell as new, it would be worth $400?

I think she is just saying that since he's 20 y/o - he should be sucking it up and getting his own insurance.  Of course, if he is listed on hers, it should go on hers, even though it's not the mom's fault.  Sucks for the mom - but that's what you get when choose to take responsibility for your adult kiddo that is not making the best choices.

That makes sense. But he's a listed driver on her insurance, therefore she's liable for his actions and it should absolutely go on her insurance. It's not like he added himself on her policy without her knowledge.

    I see your point now.

I don't think they're necessarily trying to deny it, I think they're stalling. Which, unfortunately for them, I'm impatient with a lot of time on my hands. I'll call their ins company everyday until my car is fixed. The police report comes out tomorrow anyway, so I expect my car will be fixed by the end of the week. Rolling around on the ground because you're too wasted to stand up, in front of the police car dash cam, leaves little room for argument lol.

What's really stupid is that there's only about $800 worth of damage to my car. It's pretty minor. But because this kid was dumb enough to drive after he did whatever drug(s) he did, he and his parents are going to be paying a pretty steep price for a long long time.

I get what you're saying now, it sucks for the parents.  But at least he's an adult & they can kick him off their insurance & make him grow up & pay for his own ridiculously high insurance.

  • There was a movie on this weekend called "How to Kill Your Neighbors Dog."  I laughed.  And almost DVR'd it.

And before you light the torches and get out the pitchforks, I've been patient with these dogs.  Really.  But after 2 months they are just getting bigger so their barks are getting louder.  We still aren't sleeping through it and they are also outside all day.  And that just pisses me off because until recently it was 100 degrees out.  The neighbor even told DH that she regrets getting them.  I don't want to hurt the dogs, obviously, but I would like to watch a movie on "How to teach your dog-owning neighbor a lesson."

  • Do people still take their new neighbors baked goods?  We have new neighbors in the rental house next door (third set of renters since we moved in almost 3 years ago) and I'm really hoping that they are friendly.  I'm baking for DD's fall festival at school and figured I would take them some treats.  Do people still do that?

our neighbors did when we moved in. We also have a welcome commitee thing in the hoa that brings a basket of stuff but for some reason we didn't get it when we moved in.

Ditto to both of these.  Although the HOA basket was just information on local businesses and coupons for them.  (and some coffee cups, envelope openers, magnet things.)

  • Kris, Whether people do that much any more or not, I think it'd be a super nice gesture!

Just don't pull a Bree Van De Kamp and tell them you'll need the basket back. ;-)

  • Friend is in the hospital.  LBJ ICU.  No insurance.

Had pneumonia for a while and was self-medicating with nyquil and tylenol flu.  Caused liver damage.  Now in liver and kidney failure, in a coma in the ICU.

The good news is while the odds are against him, the liver failure is because of the illness, and may not be permanent.  Hard to reverse but not impossible.

The bad news is, he has a hard fight ahead of him.  The worse news is I don't think transplant is an option for him if he needs it - he doesn't have insurance or funds for that.

I'm only 35 but I feel like about once a month either DH or I have someone we care about on the brink of death.  It is very depressing.  I didn't think this would start until we were in our 60s.

    And this particular friend... Crying

You mean when people end a sentence with a dash?  There is one writer in our archival collection who habitually writes that way-- I hate working on her letters-- I need a period dammit or I forget to pause and breathe when I'm reading--  It's awful--  Wink

No although that would drive me crazy.  I didn't type it correctly, "en dash" is killing me right now.  It's not intuitive since I'm not a writer.

LOL What's to hate about the en dash?  Does your computer keep changing them to hyphens?  Word does that a lot, it's one reason we use Word Perfect.  That and the working index function.

Thanks.  And yes it is.  The valedictorian from my HS class died 2 years ago in October from pneumonia brought on by H1N1.  She was 33.  We had just reconnected in August ... she went into the hospital in early september and after 6 weeks didn't make it.

Any prayers that can be spared are greatly appreciated.
