I'll just leave you with my SA which is I bought my first Christmas present yesterday.

How do you hide presents from DH this early? I wanted to start getting things, but I'm worried he'll find them.

  • We got a housewarming gift from a company that DH works with - $300 gift card to Pottery Barn! And I seriously have NO IDEA what to buy with it. It seems like a lot (and we are EXTREMELY grateful), but PB is so expensive.

So now we're considering using it at Williams-Sonoma and buying another Le Creuset. That isn't rude, is it? To not use the card at the specific store they bought it for?

    Heehee, me too!

I have a bit of a confession... I've been daydreaming a lot lately about opening a coffee shop. Something similar to Banter in Denton, where people can hang out, have live music, etc. and where I can sell sandwiches, soups, baked goods. It's definitely unrealistic right now, as I know nothing about business and would definitely not be able to get a loan, but maybe someday.

Banter was for sale for a long time on Craigslist. I haven't checked up on it in a very long time, but the owner wanted someone younger to take over who had the energy to run the business.

I have similar worries about kids Julie, which is why I don't want to start any time soon.  DH wants to start Jan.1 but I'm too selfish right now and honestly I feel that all the responsibility would fall to me and I'm just not at that point right now to take it on.  So because he thinks it is so easy, I offer up his services for babysitting when I can, lol.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Deepthi, it wasn't for Ben but when I start buying, I just tell him where I've hid them and he doesn't look.

MNKate - what type of IUD do you have?

Mirena - have had it for just over three years.

Is that the kind you had? I'm really curious to hear how the adjustment has been (hormonal, how quickly to get back to normal, etc).

I am super sensitive to hormones and have no idea what to expect once I'm off them - I have a feeling that it will be a good thing though......

  • Hi Ladies,

I am just popping in to say hi..

And thank you all for all the suggestions you gave me a few weeks(?) back about maternity pics. We ended up doing them last Friday, and I got a sneak peak today and wanted to share:

    http://blog.nataliepittsphotography.com/?p=1551

And btw, Julie, I feel your pain, my husband does the same kind of things all the time, and it on our house we call them "violations"! :) I say that with a smile right now, but there are times when I feel like I will lose my mind over the stuff that happens.. I too am hoping that some sort of light will go off in his head when the baby comes so that the violations can stop happening.

  • There has been a stomach bug going around for the last couple of weeks. My husband got sick with it on Sunday, and texted me this morning that he's lost 13lbs since Sunday morning! Crazy.

Julie: You'll be very surprised how in-tune you become with a baby. Your husband, too. There is just a biological need to protect that kicks in (or at least has for us), and I think your husband will realize that he's not the most important person in the house anymore. I am a very sound sleeper, and I wake up before the baby even makes any noise-- and he's sleeping in his own room now.

Politics, schmolitics. I have a lot of research to do before I can comment.

Anna: Boo to the shirt! I'm sure that waitress won't be making assumptions anytime soon

You should save it and use it on baby stuff at Pottery Barn Kids! :)

I had the Mirena.  I didn't have any of the crashes and crazy things I've been reading about.  I had mine for 4.5 years, but I haven't had anything get back to "normal" yet.  It's been out a little over 2 weeks.

  • Kathy - beautiful pics!

This was my thinking too!  I know a few things I could get at PBK!  I didn't know Williams-Sonoma was part of the company.  If the gift card works at both I don't see anything wrong with using it there.

I think that is a great idea, Anna.  You have a goal!  I daydream a lot about a B&B or some kind of farm when things get rough and DH does want to have his own business one of these days.  An innkeeper position came "across my desk" yesterday and I seriously considered applying for it, LOL.  Everyone has to learn/start from somewhere and you will learn a lot.

Gosh, I hope so.  I'm a pretty sound sleeper myself but, if I hear the girls doing something, I'm up like a flash.  This alarm going off for an hour and a half is going to end.  I swear it.

Violations....., hmmm, I may be able to make this profitable for me.

I'm with you, Stephie, on both things.  I already bought my brother a present:  some glasses that have sayings from "The Hangover" on them.  Also, since the political talk started early (like last year), I'm kind of over it myself.

  • Kathy - LOVE!  And I especially love the purple dress.  :)

mnkate - I think it's fine to use it elsewhere, since they are all part of the same company.

Anna - I have the same dream, except mine is a bookstore.  One day it will happen.

Tiffany - I'm sorry to hear about Cosmo.  I hope everything is okay.

  • Kathy - Very cute picture! You make a gorgeous pregnant person.

Tiffany - Hope your puppy is ok.

Stephanie - I guess it is better to just communicate. I need to find out what our plans are Christmas and such. I can't wait to have my sister and nephews in town.

    LOL!  Ditto!

  • Kathy - you look gorgeous!!

Julie - DH does stuff like that all the time too!  I can't keep up with how many times I walk around the house (when he's home) and say "I'm not your mother" and "this ain't no Holiday Inn."

BL - that really stinks that after all that you didn't get to get your results.  I had blood work done this morning.  I hate it!

I don't get involved in the political talk. I never vote because I don't like any of them and, therefore, I don't think I can really complain.

  • Kathy - That is a gorgeous picture!
  • Just getting on for today, so:

Politics - I have nothing to add. I remember a time when I could rattle off the opinions of every mainstream candidate with complete certainty, now I am not completely certain I could rattle off their names.

Tiffany - Boo sick Cosmo! Feel better soon sweet puppy.

Anna - If think you would love it, do it! Have you ever worked at a cafe or coffee shop? If not, you might try it temporarily to see if you truly love the daily atmosphere and work. I had a dream similar to this and to test it out I worked for a store for a short time during the holidays to see how things flowed. I let the owner know that I wanted to come in temporarily and just see if my dream was something that I would burn out on. I burned out and I am so thankful I learned that without investing tons of money. This is not to be a negative Nancy on your dream, just a suggestion. :)

Kathy - love the pic! Hope things are going well!

  • Lacey- A bookstore would be wonderful!

    Kathy-  You look beautiful.

Tiffany-  Poor puppy.  Having a sick puppy is never fun.

Politics-  I am out for now.  I have tons of research to do.

    Two random things:

-My good friend from high school went on a cruise last week.  He met/hung out with a girl that I was good friends with in elementary school.  I forget how small the world really is.

-I am very excited for Vegas, but a little run down with my crazy October.  I haven't done any research for the trip, besides our evening plans, so today I am cramming!

  • Allison - Crazy that Banter was for sale! It'll be a number of years before I get the money/business sense/nerve to actually do it, but what a funny coincidence that it was available.

Jaymi - It is nice to dream, isn't it?

Lacey - A bookstore sounds just lovely as well!

Leslie - That is actually a fantastic idea. I have never worked in the food industry, but people keep telling me I should do something with food. That's what put the idea in my head in the first place. And since my job at UNT ends in December, that would probably be the perfect time to test it out. I also found out that there is financial aid available for continuing education classes, including business ones. I'm hoping to start some next semester. I can use the skills for DH's business for now, and then maybe someday I can start my own.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement! I thought maybe I was a little crazy for even thinking about it!

  • Lacey & Anna,  random story time.  I'm from a super small town, that's not near anything.  A few years ago, this world-travelling couple decided to settle there... they'd sailed all over the Caribbean on a sailboat, backpacked Europe, lived here there and yonder, and picked my hometown to settle down in at about 50 years old.  They opened a bookstore/coffee shop/internet cafe - the only one of any of those places in town - and everyone in town just really fell in love with them.  They get tons of business, and host various activities like Scrabble night and Open Mic Night, and lots of people come.  The wife passed away tragically last year, and even though everyone thought she was the life of the place, I think the husband's business is booming even more now because people loved them both so much they just want to see the book store stay open and him stay happy and stick around town.

Not that there was a point to that, really, it's just a warm-your-heart kind of story Smile

  • Great pic Kathy! :-)

  • At lunch, instead of wiping away crumbs or sitting in an alternate seat, these two guys picked up and moved the table clockwise so the crumbs would be at an empty seat.
  • On my way back to the office from lunch I passed a man leaving a pawn shop on a tandem bicycle all alone. I hope he was headed to pick up a friend, because it's pretty sad to ride without a buddy on a bike meant for two!
  • There's a girl on my Facebook who is constantly bragging about her new iPhone by sharing with us what "suri" has done for her today. Seriously? If you are going to brag every. damn. day. learn what you are bragging about.

Jaymi - I kind of love them for that.
