  I know it is unrealistic, but there should be rules or requirements for spouses of service members. The first one should be the ability, under normal circumstances, to care for oneself and any dependents, OR to have a plan in place that is realistic regardless of the service member's duty assignment. Life happens, and we all need help from time to time, but a spouse who is unable or unwilling to drive creates a burden that must be shouldered by *someone*. (FWIW, I don't *really* think there should be such "rules", but it would be nice to live in a world where all people thought out their decisions a little bit better.)

  It always comes back to the service member.  A service member will be held responsible for choosing to marry people who are incapable of caring for themselves, whether it happens because the spouse keeps calling the Shirt, they get busted with a nasty house during a morale and welfare check, or a neighbor calls SFS because a toddler is standing on the roof of their two-story duplex.  

  I think this goes hand in hand with Stantopia, e.g. junior enlisted getting permission to marry, or commands at least requiring pre-marital counseling so these issues can be addressed before they become detrimental.
