Seller took things after closing?

Re: Seller took things after closing?

  • I wouldn't pursue it, but I agree with you.  I'd be annoyed.  And yes, a roll of copper wire and a lawnmower together can be worth at least $100 or so.
  • If you want useless crap, come to our house. Our seller left sheds FULL of it.

And then, he had the nuts to list a bunch of it on a bill for some other things that we bought from him-- like was doing us a favor leaving all this sh!t that he didn't want anymore.

Hire a lawyer. Please pay $1,000 in lawyer fees to get $500 worth of stuff back.

  • people are RUDE! This person is asking a legitimate question to a forum and all you have done is tear them apart. Just because you're behind a computer screen does not mean that you have to be down right RUDE.

On that note, I do think you should pass on filing any charges, It's ultimately the less stressful, better thing to do in the long run.

  • I would just let it go.  And as for the copper wire, unless it was a very large roll and already pre-stripped, you won't get a lot for it.  And you have to spend HOURS stripping it, because metal reclamation places won't take it with the plastic on.

  • As a lawyer, I fully encourage you to call the police, press charges and sue the seller for violation of the closing agreement.

I mean, a laywer's gotta eat, you know?  We love getting paid hundreds of dollars an hour to pursue this kind of stuff.

But seriously, good luck winning on the "but it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing!!!"  And good luck proving all this.  Burden of proof would be on you, my friend.

After our closing, we were supposed to take possession of the house at 7 p.m. on a weeknight.   I show up at the appointed hour and there's a moving truck on the lawn, half their possessions are still in the house and it's a disaster area.   Did we call the police?  Sue them?  Charge them rent?  Throw all their stuff out?    Nope.   We went out and had dinner, then came back and told them we'd come back the next day instead.   We still had our apartment for a few weeks, our friends weren't helping us move until that weekend, so it was a bit annoying, but ultimately no big deal.     Take a chill pill.

This is my point exactly.  I DID ask a legit question.  I DID ask for YOUR opinions.  I DID NOT ask for you to be b!tches about it and tell me I was ridiculous.  I am not stressed about it.  I'm just trying to prove a point to you all that just bc you think it was a stupid question doesn't mean you can be RUDE about it.  So thank you for being d!ckholes

Right, you asked for opinions and people gave you their opinions.  We did what you asked for even if you don't agree with the majority of responses.

BTW, looks like you can be quite the b!tch and rude also, but it is ok for you, but not for us.

Please relax. Don't get so worked up. Really ... what random strangers say about your issue on a message board shouldn't matter so much to you. Did you just want everyone to agree with you and encourage you to call the cops? If you don't actually want opinions that differ from yours, you shouldn't post on a public message board.

As for your issue with the former owner, I would be annoyed, but not pursue it. I wouldn't call the police or a lawyer. It's just not worth the hassle and further annoyance. It sounds like you didn't care about the items anyway, and now that he's taken the stuff, he's highly unlikely to come back to the property. What's done is done. Just try to move on and enjoy your new house.

    Nope.

Fine I will be nice this time.  Thank you all for your opinions.  I can assure you that I wasn't going to pursue this in the first place.  It was just a what if we did and how common is it.

  • I wouldn't pursue it, but you have every right to be annoyed.  I'm in the minority, but words should mean something.  In today's world they don't anymore.  If people would just do the things they are supposed to (and contracted to do) the world would be a more pleasant place.  I'm tired of people getting walked all over just because others think they should be able to get away with stuff.
